Discussion

Which social platform are nurses using most?

  • Experts

My coworkers and I were recently having a discussion about social platforms. I love social, so I have an account and pretty much every platform there is. My coworkers, on the other hand, have accounts usually on Facebook and maybe Instagram. I’m curious, where do you hang out? If you’re on a lunch break do you scroll through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter? Vote below. I can’t wait to share the results with my nonsocial friends lol

I use ig but I just follow a few Nps who share their experiences. They May give tips but of course you double check everything to make sure it’s EBP. I think some people are taking this survey a bit seriously. I don’t think anyone is turning to social media as a real source of reference. Obviously we use research and guidelines for that.

FinallyNP, maybe it's not about medical things, but talking about great social platforms - my sister likes to visit a website where people share their thoughts and experience about firms and companies they were interacting with. Truthful reviews of real people are the best.

I use reddit. I think the student nurse, nurse, nursing, medicine, and nurse practitioner subreddits are very helpful and fun reads when I'm bored. It's just easier to vent there when I need to and it's interesting to see what MDs, PharmDs, and PAs have to say about the current state of healthcare and their day to day.

I just joined Facebook to keep track of what the child was doing on Facebook. A condition of her being allowed to create an account was that one of her four parents/stepparents was allowed to "friend" her and follow her. I was the lucky pick. Now, years later, the other three parents are active on FB and I rarely check it.

FB is a waste of time, imho. Twitter is horrendously overrated too. For nursing info, I search the web for journal articles and nursing forums. Should I get a lunch break, I'm usually looking at emails and texts that I missed.

There is this one closed group on FB called Nurses with Cards. I spend quite a bit of time there when I'm not here, and there are a number of AN members on it. I also use Quora, which has a surprising amount of discussion about nursing and related topics. I have a Twitter account that I never use (can't even remember my password anymore) as well as a LinkedIn profile that I rarely check because I'm not networking anymore. So yes, I spend a lot of time online...don't judge me. LOL

I'll second reddit's r/nursing sub. I'm not taking any advice from there without checking up on it, but there are usually some great stories and question threads. I don't use instagram much but I do love the NurseLifeRN page's memes. There's a lot of humor in nursing and as silly as it seems, sharing memes fosters camaraderie.
