Hi, my name is Mary, a long time Okie, and a 40year mother of 2 applying to nursing school. I was SO excited to find this board. I thought wow, finally I can chat with people who live around me and maybe can be of some help and form some friendships. Also hoping I could find someone in my area that's been in my shoes, out of school for 20 years, applying to now go to nursing school. So, please tell me there are more nurses in OK than this. Just wondered where everyone was at.

Hi Mary! I too am an Okie born and bred, and am 40 years old. I have 7 children in all; 4 are still home. I just began nursing school also, in January. It took a lot of consideration to make such a major career change in the middle of my life; I'm sure you feel the same. :) I'd be interested in corresponding with you to see how things are going for you, since we have so much in common.
HI, this is really cool, so many people I've talked to on other boards know very little about Oklahoma. I simply love it here. I live in northeastern OK and I love it here. Believe it or not I have waisted a whole year "thinking" about going to nursing school. So now I finally have all my paperwork sent in and am just waiting for the "official" reply from school. It's gonna be a real challenge, I have had no schooling other than high school and I graduated in 1982!!! But, it will all work out. My husband and I raise quarter horses, break horses for other people and introduce horses to general ranch work. So even though I am busy here, I will have time to go to school. I can't wait. Speaking of horses, it is chore time...I can't wait to chat back and forth with you. Have a great Sunday evening......Mary

Me too. I'm returning to college after 20 years. I had some college right after high school so just have a few pre-req's to do. Will be applying to programs in the spring. Right now i'm working as an aid at a hospital in tulsa on weekends.

Hi! Everyone. I live in Oklahoma City and I just started pre-reqs at OKCCC.
I too have been out of school for a long time. I am forty five. Starting to school is a little scary. I am already a Registered Medical Assistant. So, I do have a little bit of an idea of what I am getting myself into. But, I have to say for myself, theses pre-reqs are SOOOO BORING! I do enjoy my intro to psychology.
Thats fun. Anyway, I wish all of you the best.

I'm in OKC, but grew up in Claremore -- got my RN in 2000 at age 44. I work at OU as a research nurse.
It is actually easier to go back to school in some ways when you are older -- especially nursing school -- because you have all the knowledge you acquired about childhood illness, aging, etc, just from having lived though it.

Hi everyone,
I graduated in 1994 from Oklahoma City University (OCU). Worked at Presby & Edmond for 4 years then made the trip across the Red River. Currently I have a bad case of graduate school "senioritis"! :)

Howdy!
I'm in OKC & starting pre-reqs. I have a previous (non-nursing) bachelors from 1992 & hope to get into the accelerated bs-to-BSN at OU for 2006 ( I'm also applying to the regular 2yr BSN). I'll be 36 very soon, married 15 years and have 2 kiddos- daughter 7 yrs and son 4yrs. My hubby is very supportive of my decision and even says he's proud of my hard work so far. I'm taking nutrition and dev. psych by correspondence through OU and will start A&P at OCCC in the spring. has anyone had that class- or have any opinions, tips, warnings!?!?..... I hear it's pretty competitive out there! Good Luck to all!
