Where did you start?

Right out of College. Where did you have your first job? Just to give me some ideas of what I might be able to do down the road. Thanks

Good Ole Med-Surg. Hate or Love it.............it does provide the experience and critical thinking skills necessary to be a good nurse in any field. Doesn't mean you have to stay there, just a great place to start. "Peace in you hood" Chuck

I went to a Burn and Wound care unit.

Started right out of college in the OR. Love it :)

Psychiatry Research Nurse, no weekends, no holidays, 5 weeks vacation a year (remember, negotiating for what you want is important!)

At the time I accepted that one, I turned down a position as Nurse Manager in a child psych private hospital (I didn't think I'd like managerial, plus the place didn't seem to be that well run). I also turned down a position as oncology nurse (they only offered $12/hour) and a private research facility nursing job (too much overtime).

I had my baptism of fire on an integrated nephrology/med/surg unit and it was pure hell. However, I would recommend all new grads to start out in Med/Surg because it teaches you critical thinking, to prioritize, to be well organized, time management skills and it really hones your nursing skills for whatever you want to do afterwards...

hey,

i am from the nw and i started at the only hospital that i didn't have clinicals at. i was going to go straight into a specialty but to my surprise, i started working on a med/surg floor. the acuity was extremely high and this hospital is a tertiary facility and people come from all over to get care here.

Me too! NICU and I never looked back either!
