inadequate staffing!

AMEN!

inadequate staffing, arrogant MDs and greedy administration

Those are some really good thoughts - thanks! I'm currently in nursing school right now and my group has to come up with a topic, research it, and do a whole presentation on it. I'm not a nurse yet - and I've only dealt with LTC problems (understaffing) so I'd really like everyone's input on this! Thanks!

"customer service"

Unrealistic expectations from family members of elderly residents!

I work TLC and it is truly shocking how many adults think mom or dad are just going to "snap out of it".

Terrible supervisors. These are bullies, they do not answer our email, they lie. They play favorites.

Our DON gives us the impression that she holds meetings with us only because she has to. She is only there for the money. She does not care about the patients or us workers. Also, everyone in Administration gives us the same impression - it's just a job to them.

Other issues: greedy insurance companies, legislators who haven't got a clue in hell, coworkers who come in late and/or goof off, disappear, hide out, lie about care (make up VS, say they did dressings but didn't, say they cleaned or turned or ambulated someone but didn't, stuff like that), too huge assignments, so that no nurse could ever do it well, HR and bosses who view us as being only as good as our last good shift. Screw up and it's as if you never did anything right. All the good years go flying right out the door if you mess up just once.

Stress

Patients who think that hotel and hospital are the same thing.

Managers playing favorites and not telling the whole truth. Budget crunching which affects patient care.

I agree with the last two posts. Stress and patients who think the hospital is a hotel.

Inadequate staffing while striving to be "very good" in customer service surveys.
