the weigh of your GPA

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This is going to be my last semester before I complete my pre reqs. Accredited Nursing schools requires every pre nursing student to complete the pre reqs and must obtain a gpa of 2.0 above.

Unfortunately, my overall GPA is at 2.5 and Im worried that it is a bad situation. I've already have one repeat.

Should I'll be worried about the weigh of my GPA? :innerconf

If you will go trough wait list you do not have to worry. But if you are planning applying to the schools with competitive admission rules... then, yes, you should worry.

.... School I will be applying to is requiring 3.0 GPA in all classes and most of the time people with GPA below 3.7 do not get in.... that is brutal... :uhoh21:

I think it depends on the school. I have heard some schools have less stringent GPA requirements. The one I just applied to says you should have a 3.0 to apply... but I heard from the previous class the average accepted was about 3.8.

As said before, it all depends on your school. I just recieved an e-mail from the program that I am trying to enter stating they already have 329 applicants for fall 2010 and all of them have over 3.0 GPAs. ALL OF THEM!! OMG! There are only 110 spots. Good luck!

It will definitely depend on the school. Also depends on how they determine GPA - is it just the program-specific pre-req's, or is it all classes you've taken in your whole history?

As others have said, it will depend on the program. For the school I'm applying to, 40% of the class is a lottery of all students that meet minimum admission requirements. So there are options out there. Good luck.

If i was in your situation I would apply to all the lottery schools that you are able to and apply to those that have a waitlist. Although, I have heard of students with a 2.x gpa and getting into nursing school on the first try, it is very unlikely. Those students were nearly perfect in other aspects i would be led to believe or had some networking with the admissions. GPA is usually the most important thing for admission into nursing school.

I just got my denial letter today and I have a 3.308. My school admits students based solely on GPA. Even though a 3.308 is a B+, which I think is phenomenal considering my background, I have been told that I am way far away from what I need and I should look into community colleges for a two year RN or a LPN program.... :-(

My GPA is 3.95 and I am worried... My school admits only 30 students. We all know that now it is highly competitive to get into program and there is possibility that poeple with really high GPA may not get in....

tootsierull did you consider retaking classes? I know it is expensive but if you rise your GPA then you have bigger chance to get to the program...

WOW!! 3.95 and scared about getting in?? All that work for nothing, I would be scared also!! I really hope you get in, good luck!!

tootsierull ~ I am retaking four classes this semester that I had B-'s and C+'s in. Don't give up!! :)

Just because Accredited schools require a 2.0 GPA does not mean your school goes by merit. The JC in my area requires a 2.5 GPA to get into the lotto system, you have just as much chance as someone with a 4.0. The State school I gradated did use merit and not to be rude but you would not get into that school; just too many others with high GPAs... but you have a 100% chance of getting into a school that uses a lotto...you might just be on a wait list for a year or so....
