To all of you that hope to work in the US:

1. Complete Visa Screen paperwork as soon as possible. This will be a requirement starting in July, so think how much busier CGFNS is going to get.

2. Whoever tells you not to worry about English, just go to California and take the NCLEX exam, is 100% wrong. Sure, you can get a license but none of the hospitals are hiring without you being able to pass your English exams. Especially the "Speaking" section. Unless your idea of working in the US is to be doing something other than being a nurse. Plus then you would no longer have 2 years of current work experience.

3. So please keep all of this in mind when you decide to listen to a recruiter. You should come first, not putting money in their pockets. Think of what you really want to be doing....................

4. Finally, in order to get a Visa Screen certificate to take to the Embassy, you must have English skills equivalent to that of a native speaker. It can be done, but you will have to put the time and effort into it.

visa screen certificate does not require a local license. it only requires that you pass either the cgfns exam or the nclex-rn exam and the series of english exams.

Sorry everyone, but after reading all the threads on visa screen, I am still not clear.

(1) Once I get the visa sceen, which immigration form do I fill to apply for green card, is it I-140 filed by me?

(2) For the employer (texas) to file I-140, they would require NCLEX, but without the SS#, can they offer me a job?

(3) I think, I am wondering if I can get a green card based on visa screen without a US nursing job while in a foreign country.

Please help!

Who is this information for? You have been in the US for more than 20 years already.

There are no immigration forms filed by the nurse, the RN green card is employer driven, menaing that all is submitted by an employer. There are multiple documents that need to be submitted, including a Certificate from the Labor Board that the employer tried to find a local employee but was unable to. Proof of posting for the job for a certain time frame is required, and in suitable areas. Craig's list is not one.

The green card is strictly employer driven, you cannot get a green card without having a job first.

Can I ask you a question are you a registered nurse?

2/ you can be offered a job without a ssn but you have to be a registered nurse.

3/ No you cannot get a green card without being sponsered by an employer.

guess I am getting confused as Dollygupta has asked about CGFNS exam also on employing and filing for a foreign nurse a GC and NCLEX

Just to say Dollygupta that to work in the US as a RN you still have to pass the NCLEX even if you pass CGFNS exam

She is wishing to employ a nurse to take care of her child at home who has special needs. The big issues are that a Labor Certificate is still required, and there are major specifics as to what is needed. Such as advertisement and posting of the need to fill the position in a legitimate place for a certian period of time. Then there is a wait afterwards involved. Then proof of ability to pay the going wage in the area, which is over $25 per hour, and that does not matter if housing and board is provided. Plus Workman's comp, etc., and the list goes on.

It is a very long process to try to petition privately as an employer for an RN. And most never get thru the final stages. Of all of the years that I have been helping foreign nurses, I have never seen one accepted and finally arrive over here. It is even hard to get the petitioning done by a physician's office, let alone a private employer. The government has become quite strict on what they will accept and for good reason.

thanks suzanne ... what confused me is in some thread they are talking about doing CGFNS exam to get visa and then in others about employing someone. But am I right in guessing even if employing a RN with pass in CGFNS they will still need to register with the state BON and sit NCLEX?

hello suzanne!hello to everyone!..i have taken IELTS last Nov.4 and im still waiting for the results. i am planning to take a apply and review for NCLEX after i get to know the results..my question is..is it possible to apply for visa screening even if i don't have the results of IELTS yet and im not yet done with NCLEX application?Does anyone know the steps in going through the visa screning? help!!!

Yes, it is possible but what's your time-frame to take the NCLEX?

I ask this because ICHP now requires that you complete the entire process - meaning provide them w/ the English results and the NCLEX results/License Validation Form w/in a year.

If you're sure that you can take the NCLEX and pass it within 1 year I recommend that you apply for VisaScreening now.

The VisaScreening consists of the ff:

1) Transcript (w/ RLE or clinicals) evaluation - your school sends this

2) Proof of passing an English exam - the testing center sends this

3) CGFNS exam or NCLEX exam - your respective BON or BRN sends this (NCLEX)

4) License Validation from country of origin - PRC (Philippines) send this using the ICHP License Validation Form

*Note: Those who never took a board exam are exempted for no. 4 while those all who took it must disclose that they took it regardless of pass or not. Countries w/c does not require a license to practice nursing in their country are required to give their copy of their diploma instead.

The Application Packet and full instructions can be downloaded in their website at CGFNS International or you can go to their local office or "satellite" offices to get a free copy.

Order Processing Fee to be applied to select CGFNS International services beginning January 1, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA — NOVEMBER 15, 2006 — The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS International) today announced that beginning on January 1, 2007, an Order Processing Fee of $50 will be charged, in addition to the normal service fee.

The fee will cover energy, transportation and postal increases as well as electronic management of records. This will allow for enhancements for the secure transmission of documents.

The Order Processing Fee is non-refundable and needs to be paid in addition to the fee associated with the CGFNS service, within 60 days of application.

This fee applies to the following services:

  • VisaScreen® Initial Certificate (valid for five years)
  • VisaScreen® Renewal Certificate
  • Certification Program New Applicant - CGFNS Qualifying Exam, Credentials Review
  • Credentials Evaluation Service Full Education Course-by-Course Report
  • Credentials Evaluation Service Healthcare Profession & Science Course-by-Course Report
  • Credential Verification Service for New York State (CVS)

Well, if it improves the service, that is good. I doubt it though.

hi lawrence!!i just recently learned that i passed the IELTS:roll!!

i havent applied yet for NCLEX because i dont know where to apply..either CA or VT..maybe i will just apply for the visa screening when im sure that i can sit for the NCLEX next year..

can i have your advise..i dont know where to apply for NCLEX..i want to work in CA but they said its easier if i try VT..im puzzled and i dont know what to choose!!please help me..
