VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

Do you happen to be orienting at VA in Brooklyn/NYC? I start tomorrow as well, but did not receive the email regarding details of time, place or anything lol. Pleeeeeease respond.

Are you aware that you posted three times?

That info is in the final offer letter which it seems you have not received. I doubt I would report without having received that. I would call HR in the am.

Alternatively, you can wear business casual, take scrubs, arrive before 8 am and go to HR. If you have no info, there is not much more you can do.

I am aware I posted three times. This is my first time posting on AllNurses so my apologies. I was not sure how to delete the other two. I have received no formal letters, I was only notified through telephone that I was "tentatively selected" for processing. I have completed my physical, background check, and VetPro. I do plan on arriving at the facility early and going to HR, thank you for your advice.

I don't know how to delete, either. Maybe contact the Admins. Good luck at the VA.

I will take care of the duplicates, no worries.

You will have to allow then to contact current employer. If you do not they will not offer a job. I came into this problem when I was in the process of interviewing. I was told if they are contacting current employer that they want you. I was offer a job the next day after VA talked to current employer.

This post has been a lifesaver. I've applied, interviewed and already completed my fingerprinting and physical. They didn't request any labs. Also I know they sent a few of my references emails. Any idea how long after, that my stuff goes to the board?? My fingerprints were the 23rd of last month so it's been 3 1/2 weeks. Needless to say I'm a nervous wreck waiting to see IF they give me a formal job offer. Thanks

I agree this post has really been helpful to me. I interviewed in June, received a tentative offer the first week of July, and due to the holiday and vacation my credentialing (Vetpro and equip), fingerprinting, physical, and reference check was all delayed. I just completed the last thing, my physical, last week and now I am waiting for my final offer. I agree with the previous posters that recommend for you to stay in contact with the recruiter and individuals that are doing your credentialing. So far, everyone has been very nice and helpful. I am being patient and waiting for that final offer. I was advised by my recruiter that I probably will not start until September. My position was for a community health nurse. :)

So how long did it take to get a start date

So how long did it take to get a start date

Hello, I am currently waiting for an official start date. I was advised by my director last week, that the VA called my HR dept. to verify my employment date and salary information. So, hopefully I will hear something soon. When I went for my physical and fingerprinting, I stopped by the Recruiter and was advised that the Vetpro process can take up to 45 days, sometimes longer. I have come to realize that this process requires patience. So to date, it has been 2.5 months. That includes my interview in June and then all the other stuff. I hope this helps.

Yes I'm starting to realize that as well. Seems like getting hired was the easy part. Getting a start date now that's the hard part. Still waiting to do Vetpro.

Yes, getting hired is definitely the easy part. I interviewed end of April and will start in October. This whole process has been a comedy of errors for me: my HR rep leaving the dept and leaving my file hanging, me showing up for a scheduled meeting to find that the person who scheduled it was on vacation, filling out one form three different times, and last of all the ppwk from my physical has gone missing.

You know who I feel bad for? The dept manager. He needs a nurse. Too bad it takes 6 months to get someone there. No wonder they like to do internal hires. I am banking on the thought that it will all be worth it!
