UTA Spring 2012

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

Eldraper7,

I think I had to write 1 paper in History 1. But it's not difficult at all. There is a team assignment that fairly simple. It was time consuming with all the reading necessary but not difficult at all. I must say that in the beginning trying to manage your way around the course is confusing on Blackboard but it gets easier as you get used to it.

MsMila

Are there any major test or just some quizzes?

Eldraper7,

I apolgize but I honestly don't remember. I just finished Hist 2, and I still have access to that course so I looked at it to refresh my memory. I think there is 1 quiz for each unit. There are several map exercises which are open book, but you have to make sure you spell correctly and don't abbreviate. To make sure I'm right you can view the syllabus for the course prior to taking it. But you really don't have to worry, I hate History and Politics but I've managed to make A's and B's in those courses. I'm taking Political Government right now and I plan on getting an A to boost my GPA.

Is not difficult but there is a lot of reading and work. History 2 was more work. Instead of replying to 3 post like in History 2, HIST 1 just requires 1 reply. Others may be done for extra credit. There are 15 units and you get a quiz for each unit. Quizzes are 6 questions but only 5 minutes to answer them. The class is NOT hard, just a lot of things to do. I did not even try and got an A with doing extra credit stuff.

Hello all who took Pharm and Patho at UTA,

Currently I am attemptin to register for Pharm and Patho but MyMav won't allow me. I've taken all prereqs so I don't know what the problem is. I am a AP student but it keeps giving me an error message. I emailed my advisor but we all know how long that takes for a response, so I was wondering was there anything special you had to do to register for those courses.

Thanks in advance, and I plan on taking one at a time. Don't want to take both of those together and work a full time job. That would make for a long 12 weeks.

msmila,

you have to get the counselor to declare you as a nursing major, which she can do easily. You will just have to wait for her to respond to your email. It didnt take my counselor 24 hours to respond and have the problem fixed. I ran into the same problem, but the classes are so big you shouldnt have an issue getting in due to the delay of your counselor!

That's great news, thanks so much for the quick response. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to complete Patho, Pharm, Micro, and Nutrition before the next Spring deadline for UTA, TWU, and Brookhaven.

yikes! I took patho pharm and med terminology all during the summer.. it was a lot, but i got through it with all A's. Pharm is the hardest, so spend majority of your time on that! Im sure you'll do fine, just keep on top of it! And dont be afraid to send your coach an email if you need study tips or help with something. Also, you can try to send a message on the discussion board early to see if anyone wants to get together and study. I know there were a few people in my class that did that and that seemed to help them a lot! Goodluck!! :)

P.S. Have you looked into the CCCC nursing program? I applied there as my back up plan to not getting in to UTA, and I got accepted already. It is relatively easy, and you dont need your patho or pharm and i dont think nutrition either. It is highly ranked as one of the best ADN programs in the country and just received an award that only 16 schools in the nation have reached. I would look into it. Especially because brookhaven has a lot of "optional prereqs" which you pretty much HAVE to have to get in, and collin would be a better school. Just some food for thought :)

Anybody stalking the mailbox yet?! I know we will not probably receive until end of week but I still was anxious to check the mail after school today. Nothing!

Per my friend's convo with the Asst. Dean on Friday, letters are being mailed out today. Good luck to everyone!!

ACK!!! I sure hope so :) I'm dying over here. Best of luck, everyone!

OK--I am completely having a heart attack. I haven't checked the AP site since late summer, so, knowing that there is a strong possibility I will not be accepted again (because so few of us are when we don't work at a partner hospital), I decided to do that to get ready for the next round of apps.

Fall 2012 application due January 05, 2012

HESI Test score due November 01, 2011

YES--did you see that??? The test score is due TODAY! I shot off an email over the weekend to my advisor because this is completely different from last year when scores were actually not due until a month after the app deadline. I am assuming they made this change due to that email fiasco that happened for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 apps wherein they emailed everyone and their dog saying they hadn't received the scores. Maybe this was their solution.

BUT

my concern is the DATE!! arrrgghhhh! I took the HESI in December of 2010. Technically it is still within a year of the November 1 due date; however, it is OVER a year old by the app due date! (Does that make sense??) Yes, I certainly should have kept up, but who knew they would make this type of change (and this was revised in September).

I am totally freaking out. If she says it will not be accepted, then Spring 2012 is my last chance for UTA because I then won't be able to apply until the Spring 2013 session.

OMG, please shoot me someone.
