UTA Spring 2012

kaystarz, what classes do you have F's in? If it's not a prereq class then you don't have to worry about it. I feel you on the chemistry, that's what pulled my science GPA down to a 3.75. Unfortunately I took regular chemistry with Rodgers instead of the nursing chemistry which would have been easier. Yea, I don't think that I'll be retaking that either :-S

@lena22 - they are prereq's. My new advisor brought it to my attention and explained they would not disqualify me but would definitely be calculated in my overall GPA although they technically did not transfer. Once, I retake, my overall will be much higher. All my classes going forward have been all A's and occasionally a B.

When I was told that you need a 3.5 gpa to be competitive, they did not specify whether it was the overall or science gpa. I assume they mean both....

Kaystarz, I share your pain about chemistry. I took the class during the summer also and the professor was horrible. I could barely understand his country accent and his lectures were so confusing. I failed the first test, freaked out, and hired a professional tutor. If I did not hire a tutor, I'm sure I would have failed that course. But thanks to her, I passed :)

Kay -- They only consider the courses they require as prereqs as the "overall gpa." I was surprised to learn that. I don't know if the two f's you got were part of those courses, but I'm pretty sure they aren't because you have to have at least a C in all of the required pre reqs. you may have a better overall GPA than you thought!

BUUUT my overall is 3.21. I did not know that to my 2 F's from a decade ago would be calculated in my GPA. I thought because they were not transferable when I came to UTA they would not be considered. That was too good to be true. I had a really good advisor before she left but she did not mention this to me, otherwise I would have already have taken them over. Err.. If I have to reapply, my science GPA will go down to 3.75 because I took Chemistry over the summer and made a B. I hate that class! I probably will not retake but will increase my overall."

@Mandinoel - thanks for the reply! Per the advisor, they are calculated in the GPA despite not getting credit for the classes as they are not passing. I was under the assumption because since they are not transfer able they would not be computed in the GPA but they do. Hopefully, my science GPA will work in my favor. Soon we shall know. Nervous!!

When is the last time anyone got a response from their advisor about when acceptance and denial letters are being sent out?? And does anyone know if we will get any kind of email indication/notification before we receive the snail mail?

This waiting is driving me slowly insane......AND my hair is falling out

in an earlier post someone stated an advisor who came to their into to nurs class stated letters would be sent the first week of Nov. No mention of email notification. Although I have been checking mav mail for any indication. No such luck..lol

I would wish the week to go by fast if I didnt have an exam to study for. Bad enough we had to wait so long, but this last week is torture!

Last spring they sent letters in the mail. No emails & nothing on My Mav so just wait for the mail. I received an email a WHILE back saying we would hear the first week in November. Unfortunately, I have been accepted to a 12mo BSN program elsewhere and have to make my decision before UTA will likely notify me. Paying out of state tuition for the other program will be tough (lots of loans), but hey....I may not have another choice at this point in time. Good luck, quit worrying till the 2nd week in November! Just start getting ready in case you are accepted or wait-listed. Get your vaccines and CPR, etc. Also, look into volunteering at one of the hospitals if you don't already work there. Volunteer work is GREAT on an application (school or job)!

Wow, I can't believe I finally joined allnurses.com! I've been reading all of the posts for a long time now.

I applied for the Second Degree BSN AP program start date Jan 2012. I received an email back in August stating we will be receiving our acceptance/denial/waitlist letters no later than November 1st. On the AP website (stateu.edu/uta), "Admittance Decision By" is November 1. So I am really hoping to see something in the mail THIS week.

@ttnncc, Are you moving to attend the out of state program?

I would accept the offer for now but decline it later if you were accepted at UTA. People do it all the time. Just let the other school know ASAP so they can notify someone on the wait list that there is an opening.

Both programs are out of state for me. I don't live in Texas. The other program is at the Medical Branch in Galveston, and from what I can determine, it is a GREAT program. A lot more involved with their BACC 2 students than UTA seems to be. I don't think I am going to get into UTA though. My GPA isn't high enough in my 4 science classes (that is the GPA they use!). So UTMB had an essay and everything that went with their application and I think that is great. Plus I had an interview so they had more than 4 grades to determine whether to let me in or not. Still trying to determine costs of moving/out-of-state tuition, etc.
