UTA Spring 2012

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

New to the blog so I hope I don't step on any kind of blog etiquette. I am going to take the math and spelling test for Parkland Friday and I am a little nervous about the math. Can you tell me more about it? Were dosage calculations and metric conversions on it?

Thanks for your help

Hey Misty,

I took it a while ago but it was fairly simple. It had basic math on it but I do believe that it had dosage calculations on it. The spelling part is very elementary! Good luck and keep me posted. I took the test but never got a call back after that.

Congrats to all of you that have gotten accepted! :)

I will be applying for Spring 2013 and I really hope I get in... I will be taking Patho and Pharm together in the fall I would like to know if that worked for some of you that took them together.

was the test hard and can you please tell me how i can study for the test.i have a appt friday

I just got a call that I could go to the San Antonio or Longview program. Seeing as that I don't have a plan B nor do I have children, I am going to jump on it. Now I have to make the decision of which one. Do I move to San Antonio or Commute to Longview. I don't know much about the San Antonio clinical site other than that it is HCA Methodist. I am thinking it is the one that UTHSCSA rotates at but I'm not sure. I have not found anyone that has done the San Antonio program. Longview has a new Innovative Learning Site that they recently built but I am worried about the commute and how rotating at a rural hospital will look on my resume when looking for a job. I want to work in a urban setting. I'll accept all advice!! Please let me know what ya'll think.

I have until Monday to decide

I am wondering how many accepted have previous degrees and if that is playing a factor? I know some who have gotten in without one and others who do have a previous degree. I got into both programs as well and I have a 4.0 GPA at UTA in all my science courses, an 89 on HESI, and I have a previous degree from TCU with a 3.7 overall with Honors and I am partnered with THR. Dont give up! I work with people who didnt get in the first time and did the second time. I think the key is to get partnered! I had to take a 50% pay cut in order to get a position to get me in better hopes for this program. So I hope that helps. Keep trying and be persistent! You can do it!!
I know this a post a year ago that's what I'm going through... Debating if I should get a pay cut just to get partnered ::sigh:: and to get in the program.

Hello, did you take microbiology? I want to know how the class is, thanks!

Binaxoxo,

Are you planning to take Microbiology Spring 2013? I was wanting to sell my book and lab pack. I took it this past summer with professor Badon, and it was hard in the sense that it required paying very close attention to the readings. Her tests are tricky because the answers seem obvious, but its not the answer you are thinking of. All I can say is pay close attention to the assigned readings in the textbook and PowerPoint.
