Ultrascopes?

Published

Yep, another stethoscope thread.. maybe we need a sticky! :chuckle

Anyway - my dog ate my Littmann. Wah. Was convenient of him that he waited until Christmas break to do it, at least ! :chuckle

Now that I'm in the market for a new steth, I've been checking out the ultrascopes. They're just SO darn cute! :chuckle

Anyone have any experience with these? What do you think about them?

I may not be able to get one because I think we're required to have the dual head like the Littmanns anyway, though. Have to check with my school on that, since I seem to have forgotten since beginning of last semester.

I just received one for Christmas. They are so cool looking! :chuckle I think people are going to be jealous just because they are so neat to look at! Anyways, my very limited experience testing it out on the hubby, kids, dog, etc. is that I can hear quite well with it and I think it's going to be a great stethoscope!

i have an ultrascope, hot pink with a little stick figure nurse on it. the sound from that steth is amazing! there is no bell and diaphragm, only one end piece, but the sound is incredible. i get compliments on it every time i wear it. i would by it again in a heart beat (no pun intended;)

I'd like to get one as well, but I think we have to have a scope with a dual head at my school. I dunno how well i'd like using just a single headed one either. You may want to try out the maxiscope. It's like a cheaper version of the ultrascope, just without the cool head on it, but these come in funky colors. This is the cheapest place i've seen them. They're $34.95. http://www.coolscrubdepot.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1042

i LOVED my Ultrascope... but it broke about 1 month ago and i didn't activate the wareentee (duh!), so they won't fix it for me... i've been using another pressure scope ever since and every shift i lament at how much i can't hear with it... and the fact that i actually have direct skin to scope contact to hear lung sounds...

so, beyond stressing to send in those wareentee papers, i've loved my Ultrascope! and i've gotten a ton of compliments on it from folks who love how it looks (i had a holographic one)...

Just got one over the break..I love it so far, but have only tested it out on my (somewhat) willing household subjects. It's really amazing how much more you can hear, but I can also see my instructor's point, when asked how she likes hers, that some people find all the extra internal sounds distracting.

Gotta admit..I just think mine is cool :coollook:

I would definitely recommend trying before you buy.

(mine has little flowers, and can be changed out for other designs, if I ever find the darned disks)

I love my Ultrascope!! I've had it for about 5 years now, and I can hear so much better with it than I could with the $250 Littman I bought myself when I graduated from nursing school in '97. Mine is purple with a holographic head.......I get lots of compliments on it even today. :) Beauty AND function......an unbeatable combination in my book! :p

Same here - love the Ultrascope. It is way better than anything else out there & looks a lot better too. :chuckle

I have heard that Ultrascope came out with a cheaper version - it's about $49, but I don't know how good the quality is. I have noticed that it looks "cheap" compared to the Ultrascope. But if it's from the same manufacturer, so I imagine it has to be pretty good.

I'm planning to buy another Ultrascope - just to have on hand in case something happens to my original one. I start my grad nursing job in 2 weeks and want to be prepared! Anyone know of the best place to buy one online?

thanks for posting the link- I didn't know they made pedi scopes too! I tried a coworker's ultrascope the other day and was amazed at the quality, so much better than my littman.

I couldn't hear well out of any other steth I tried, but I can hear great from my Ultrascope. And our program also requires a bell/diaphragm type and the Ultrascope, although it does not look like these, has both functions, you just have to press harder or use a lighter touch depending on the sounds you are listening for.

My clinical instructor actually uses an ultrascope. We were in aw of her at the beggining of last semester. We just thought she was trying to look cute and then she had us put a towel over our uniforms and listen to lung sounds with it. You could hear the lung sounds very clear even through the thick towel and uniform. The ultrascope is what I am purchasing when I graduate instead of a Litman.
