Tnpap and drinking

Hello!
I’m in TNPAP under a monitoring agreement and I drank about 1/4 of a strawberry daiquiri yesterday thinking it was a virgin at first until my friend told me she spiked it. ( I couldn’t taste the alcohol) She did not know about my restriction. Do you think it could show on a Peth test if I’m selected for it in a week? That is the only drink I’ve had in 6 months. No lectures please! TIA

I am so sorry this happened to you. This is one of the biggest reasons I never went to parties for the past 6+ years. Yes it is entirely possible that it will show up. I would not tell your monitor case manager yet until you test. If you do then I would have your friend call your case manager and tell her or write a letter. You are early into this process yet so maybe the consequences will not be as terrible. No more drinking something that is not in its original container like a bottle of water at parties. Hang in there.

If that is all you had, and nothing more in the weeks prior to that, the odds are very low that it would be detected in a blood PETH test. A standard drink has 14g of alcohol. 1/4th of a drink would have 4gm (rounding up) of alcohol. If you were theoretically thin at 110 lb (50kg), your intake of alcohol would be 0.08g/kg. (4g/50kg). At any weight above that your value would be lower than 0.08g/kg. This research article shows positive PETH detection for 3-12 days after a single binge drinking episode of 1g/kg which you did not even come close to. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27596747/

Use this scare as a lesson going forward. Bring your own bottled drinks to any party or gathering and keep it with you at all times. You need to always be vigilant to stay safe in these monitoring programs. You can do this!

When I attend BBQ's, family things, I always bring my own drinks, and never let them out of my hands. Paranoid? Maybe! Safe? definitely!

Sorry your friend did that to you! I do not know if you consider yourself in recovery or not, but, man oh man, that would pi$$ me off if someone did that to me. Everyone I know is aware I am a recovering alcoholic (15+ years now) and I would hope that would never be an issue, but, I do not trust anyone.

I wouldn't say anything to your case manager just yet, as you do not know when you will be tested and for what.

Stay strong and I am sending good vibes your way!

Thank you! That is all I’ve had. Apparently it was a daquari mix with I guess vodka. I’m not thin I weigh 200 pounds.

The last time I drank before that was dec of 2019. Alcohol was not my DOC

Do y’all think it would show in a hair follicle test ( if I am selected for one)?

Odds again very low. Agree with the others who suggested not notifying your case manager as it will likely bring on the level of testing that you are currently inquiring about.

I'll keep my fingers crossed but think you'll be fine. How often have you gotten a peth test?

Never had one through TNPAP. Just through the monitoring company when I was in IOP.

You'll be fine. Don't worry. Lesson learned.

I honestly think you’ll be okay now that we are four days out from the drink and you couldn’t possibly be tested til Monday, IF you got selected. I collect urine and blood for Affinity where I work (I’m not allowed to test there, I only do it for local doctors and pharmacists in monitoring contracts.) I will tell you this, but I wouldn’t worry about a peth as much as I would have about a straight urine drug screen last week. ETG can show up in it up to 80 hours later. A peth is designed to detect multiple servings for up to 2-4 weeks after ingestion. From what it sounds like, you didn’t ingest enough to show on that.

Now this may sound like overkill, but I’ve not even ordered a ‘virgin’ drink since I’ve been in monitoring. To me, unless I can see the drink being made and it doesn’t leave my sight until it’s served to me, there is always a chance it might have alcohol. I’m not paranoid about food or other things like vanilla or hand sanitizer, but until I’m out of monitoring, I will just stick to soda, juice, and water. I was really nervous at first that people would notice I wasn’t drinking at weddings, ballgames, etc, but nobody has ever lifted an eyebrow. I actually had a ready-made excuse if someone asked but have never had to use it. ?

ETA: I’m 2.5 years in and I’ve never had a peth test.

Find new friends that don’t think it’s OK to drug you behind your back. If you were smart you would fill out a police report for your own legal protection.
