if they are leather or leather-type, you can get the kiwi shoe protectant (in a tin and looks like wax). this should put a protective coating on the shoe and allow them to be wiped clean more easily and protect from stain. there is also that white dab-on shoe polish you could use every couple of weeks or so, but i wouldn't use that every day because it could get cakey. hope this helps.

As for just cleaning them up, I've been told that dishwashing soap, esp. Dawn, works best.

scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner works great on white leather shoes. I use it about once every few weeks and use baby wipes in between to keep them white.

i wear calzuro clogs. they are rubber and go in the washing machine (they can be autoclaved). you can google them and see a variety of places to purchase online...i paid $60 delivered. but...you need to be comfortable in clogs.

I let my hubby who's in the forces clean them. He does his boots and my shoes.

Clean the shoes as you go, don't allow stuff to dry and crust on if you can avoid it.

I worked in a hospital lab for 10 years and found the following worked well for me: I would buy a pair of shoes for work only and did not allow myself to use them for anything but work. I wore them there, I wore them while I worked and I wore them home where they came right off. Since I was hardly outside with them they would stay in awesome condition for a long time. When I bought new work shoes it was only because I was in the mood for something different!

If you need a real quick clean up just wipe them down with alcohol.

I use a liquid polish...I think the name is red cross. Its hard to find but if you can find its the best polish I've ever used.

I keep my white shoes looking new by cleaning EVERY day that I wear them. It takes only a few seconds when you do this.

First get some white Kiwi wax polish or get some white shoe cream and polish well. Do this before you ever wear them the first time (protects shoe and makes dirt easier to come off) Then every single day you wear them clean them with a soft cloth and sadle soap. I must admit sometimes I just use a little bar soap. Then you can use a little polish on the area you just cleaned. It literally takes me less than a minute. I do a complete polish about 1-2 times a month.

be sure to buff after polishing. I have shoes that I have been wearing 3 years and people still comment on my "new" shoes. There is also a clear liquid product sold by several different companies that is used for removing black marks. It goes by different names. Scuff remover is one name. It is really not productive to ask for it by name because it is not an item that is well known or common on the shelves. Instead ask for it by describing what it does. "Cleans black scuff marks." This is not a cover up but actually cleans them.

If you waite until you have worn them three days you have waited two days too late to clean them. I have two pairs and do not wear the same pair two days in a row. This gives the shoe time to recover. It takes 48 hours for a shoe insole and out sole to reexpand after being worn all day and it dry out. Shoes last longer (not just 2x longer) by doing this. If you keep compression on a shoe by daily wear it does not recover when you finally give them a break.

I always keep my work shoes in my locker so I'm not tempted to keep wearing them all day after I get home. I find that they last so much longer if only worn when you come in to work.
