Hi~
Im schedule to take the nclex on sept 23 but I'm having doubts. I've been only getting 50-60 percent on the kaplan practice test and 60+% on the saunders book. Would it better to move the test a week later to sept 30th?

Hello,
Yes, you should move the test until you are ready. What is reflecting your score? Are you studying appropriately? Are you working? If so, take two weeks off and study appropriately. You need all of the time to prepare for your certification. You do not want to waste your money, time and confidence.
I took the Kaplan nclex preparation class, I was in the high 80% to low 90% on their practice exam and I did the same on the nclex test...only 83 questions.
In conclusion, the practice tests are good indicators for you. You make the call for you and not what I or anyone else say. You know the feeling of success and you should have it by now.

All I can say is take it when you feel that you have done everything you can to prepare for it. I know people will say you never feel prepared and that's true in my opinion, but what I'm saying is take it when you feel like you have done what needs to be done. Does that make sense? If not, reschedule if YOUR not ready. :)
Thanks for replying back to my question...yea.. I dont feel like I am completely ready to face the real test next week. If you do fail how long is the waiting period? I heard it was 90 days? I guess I rather spend one more week of studying instead of risking it to take it again in another 3 months.

Only reschedule if you really think you need to. I personally couldn't imagine rescheduling because I know that one week would not make a difference.
If you reschedule than take it in two weeks to a month. Because you need to hit the books really hard. In addition, if you fail than it is 90 days, and if you are working as a graduate nurse than you will demoted to a cna. I would not risk it. You need to study very hard because this test determine if you are a confident and safe nurse.
Good Luck,

I am taking my NCLEX on Sept 23 aswell. I agree with the poster that said that you can never really feel like you are 100% prepared and that you've done everything there is to do. I am really nervous too as the test date approaches........but I still have 10 more days to review as much as I can. I am getting the same scores as you on the practise exams, and as far as I know, Kaplan indicates that if you score above a 65% on their exams, then there is really good chances of you passing.....And I havent known a single person who has scored in the 90s on Kaplan tests.....GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!

Exactly! I think you are doing fine on the Kaplan tests. I scored 60-74% on Kaplan Trainer CD and scored a 68% on exam 7 and passed with 75 questions. I didn't use Kaplan to study, I had a study schedule and Kaplan was last on my list the week before my test. So Kaplan for me was a gage to see how I would do if I were taking the boards because it seemed so many ppl took the Kaplan trainers and based on their scores could tell their success or failure at the boards. If your scoring above 60% -65% on Kaplan trainer I think you will be fine on the boards.
As far as Saunders, I always used the review mode so I can't tell you my scores since I never did exams from them. I used Lippincott Q&A book for questions, NCLEX3000 exams for scores and another book I used.
The person scoring 80-90% on Kaplan is rare and I've been on this board since March and that is the first I have heard that high, unless she was using the Kaplan strategy book CD, which are easier exams.
If you feel like you are ready then go take the exam. Only YOU can be your gage. I know I had my schedule written out for 6 wks and revised it each week based on what I accomplished and at the end of the 6 wks,I had accomplished my goal and took my exam.
Good luck and sounds like to me your doing just fine. Pay attention to the rationales!!

an extra week, take it. Knowing that you've given it your 110%, gives peace and confidence which is so very important in passing this exam.
A week is a reasonable time. I suggest that you make a schedule and realistically evaluate the difference this extra week will make.
I was at the same point where you're at few weeks ago and I took those extra 5 days. Helped me calm down and refocuss.
All the best to you.

If you do not feel comfortable, reschedule.............simple as that. You are better taking more time to prepare now if needed, then not to do well, and have to wait another 90 days to retest.
Thank you all for replying back~ I think I will do more practice test and if it does not improve then I will take your advice and reschedule..I think few extra days will help me feel more prepared and confident..
