Things that gross me out....

So I get report on a little lady and the nurse says she has decreased urine output. Her foley had been leaking the night before, but I added some water to the baloon and it seemed to be ok afterwards. The nurse said the CNA swore up and down that the foley was NOT leaking, so she called the doctor about the "decreased urine output."

I go into assess the pt, and she is soaking wet, plus has dried poo on her (nice). I clean her up and change out her foley (no urine return either....I hate it when that happens!)

And hour later, there is STILL urine leaking around the foley! So I break out a grand-daddy 18fr and change the foley out again, and her urine came out in gross chunks.....literally. 500 cc's of it!!! Yuck yuck yuck!!! I hate chunky urine!!! Poor little lady. :(

Dry scaley skin:omy:

feacal vomit... nutty peanut butter style!

I was looking after a woman who was unconscious and had some kind of temporary condition that caused her orifice to dilate (no idea what it was - a hundred years ago when I was just a young 'un). If you pushed on her belly, soft yellow and green fecal matter would squeeze out like toothpaste...

Aaany way. One night after the dilation began to resolve a friend and I were cleaning her up - me holding up her top leg, my friend face down in the peri region. We were chatting away and for some reason I said my friend's name and she jerked upright - just missing a mouthful of the soft fecal matter that was expelled with such force it hit the wall at the foot of the bed!

But I readily concede that that's no bowel and abdo full of maggots. Where's that vomit icon when you need it?

halitosis, I am not talking about your regular morning "dragon breath" I am talking about the gingivitis, never brush their teeth, rotten mouth...I could never be a dental hygenist...give with an incontinent patient who ran out of their chlorophyll anyday!

GREEN PHLEM......:sniff: I can cope with most anything: feces, vomit, strong body odors, tunneling decub, purulent pus, BUT GREEN PHLEM, will always kill me.

Nurdtonurse you do win!!!!!! Oh my goodness that is bad just read your post and I can't get it out of my mind. Poor guy as I read I couldn't help but feel bad for the man....very sad. But I must point out the part were you call the ER nurse made me laugh!!! leaving the toe in the shoe??? She probably knew.

Oh, you poor thing! :bowingpur

Oh that's bad.

I can't handle anything having to do with insects of any kinds. I'd have to run away and vomit I'm afraid.

re mouth care

i was making rounds and the head nurse joined in because she was showing a new nun around the hospital

i went in a to do the oral care on patient, between the lip and the gum was a thick thick crud, on the roof of the mouth and the palate were a solid plate of residue of i don't know what the man had been on a peg for weeks, the wife's eyes got bigger and bigger and the head nurse lips got thinner and thinner

i was called aside when we left the room, i had not had the man as a patient before, he had been in hospital for about a week from a ltc

i guess that the nun and the head nurse had seen enough because they found something else they needed to do and me and my queasy stomach went on with the day

i don't know what was said to previous shift nurse but there was a paper on the wall the next day abut oral care q shift

I had a similar experience with oral care....it was like peeling wallpaper! Never again!!

I remember that I asked the attending surgeon how in the world the guy got that way. He smarted off and said the homeless guy didn't wear his undershorts. When I continued to stare at him, he said that from what he saw, he thought the guy had probably had really bleeding external hemorrhoids, flies landed on him in his sleep, and there ya go. I swear, I will remember that smell to the end of my life.

Oh.... I once was covering in the high dependancy unit and a guy there had a neucrotic scrotum... it was probably the thought that the neucrotic tissue was in that place that made the smell that much worse.... or ventilator breath... *shudder*

Patient with maggots in her lady parts-hadn't bathed in ...oh, I don't know

2 years!

Toenails curled so far back, they were cutting into his feet.

Little boy that put a bean up his nose about 6 months ago. It sprouted , took on a life of it's own. His parents couldn't figure out why his nose smelled so bad, not to mention the sound it made when the boy was breathing.

GREEN PHLEM......:sniff: I can cope with most anything: feces, vomit, strong body odors, tunneling decub, purulent pus, BUT GREEN PHLEM, will always kill me.
