Stool sample for Micro class?????

The community college that I DONT go to requires "anal swabs" to be taken and brought in for class...

Can I just say Im glad I went to the college where the microbiology professor takes you to the neighborhood beer microbrewery to learn about fermentation!!! With free samples to the 21 and over crowd....

I'm taking micro right now and we don't have to do this. But our teacher was telling us other schools require it. Just shows how dedicated you are I guess!

i'm sure as a pre-nursing student, i would have been horrified by this. now, as a nursing student, i've seen and cleaned up so much poop, etc, i don't really care about an itsy-bitsy sample for micro class.

the 'code browns' i've cleaned up...ugh. one, i would swear i could smell it in my nose eight hours later.

ditto here. had a guy last week with golytely tx and wow after 7 years i had never seen sooooo much. i swear it was on the bathroom walls!!!:chuckle still i think in a classroom setting where it isn't "work" there is a certain degree of the thing going there. we had to bring in urine which alot of the class did not do. we also had to bring in rotten food.

I would have been all over that! I felt let down my first clinical becuase my patient didn't have a cath. or anything, and other students had the opportunity to o cath care and colostomy care...My husband tells me I am just a sick geek...

Hmm... interesting! I actually think that would have been fun, maybe not necessarily poop, but something off of our bodies. We were not allowed to use any body substance in any of our micro labs. We used our own urine in our physiology lab though!

We definitely never had to do that. That does seem a bit odd. I really wouldn't want to know what my friend/classmate's poop looks like. .

How embarrassing to the poor students! I would be mortified.

That is one gross requirement you have. Would you actually fail the class if you happen to be constipated?

Please be sure you don't get pulled over by the cops while driving your sample to class. You know that the PO is going to want to see what you have in the baggie. It would be some real tough explaining to do.

If it were me, I would make sure to find the smelliest dog poop and open the bag to 'air out' the room during class. Bet that the requirement would be dropped after doing that.

We did our own urine samples, but when it came time to stools and taking samples our instructer crafted 3 diferent types of faeces out of chocolate (hard, soft, runny) and put them in bedpans....
