Hey all!!! I am in my final semester before register for the nursing program. Then in May I will be filling out an application for the CEP for NAU. I'm an in Az and I was wondering if anyone out there took statistics online through Rio Salado college?? I am already taking a full load and working full time, but was thinking of adding PSY 230 online. I've heard it's challenging but wanted to reach out and see if I could get any first hand advice!
Thanks all! :)

I don't know, but I have to take it online as well. I suck at math! I'm from AZ too. Good luck!

I, too, suck at math. I took an online Stats course a few years ago and managed to get a B. I had to teach myself how to use Microsoft Excel and the math equation generator in the online classroom, but I survived. I can't imagine it would be any different than the online class at Rio Salado. Good luck to you!

Is it I go that we would use in nursing school or after?

I took it online last fall; it was harder than it had to be because my teacher was not very helpful. I struggled to get a B but was proud of myself
Fact is, its doable as long as you stay on top of your topics and are able to bug the mess out of your instructor and/or TA if needed. All the best

If you're okay with learning any kind of math by yourself, go for it. Personally I find it difficult learning math in an online environment vs. a classroom setting. I've wasted so much money on correspondence math courses because I've attempted and failed. Even with a supportive network, if you're more of a visual learner in that subject (i.e., you need to see problems worked out in real time), it will be difficult.

Thank you! I'm thinking if I have room and time in my schedule I'll take it on campus, otherwise I think the option of online is at least a possibility. These responses helped :)
Statistics is used in everything from medical research and genetics, to predicting the weather and stock market. In nursing, you must be able to read and interpret data, or at least understand the data that is interpreted, in journal articles, for instance. Statistics is a math course that everyone should have to take in college. And I can't believe I just wrote this, but it's still true. It's also still true that I hate math!

I'm taking it online this fall too. Mine is an 8 week course. I'm a little worried but I know I can do anything if I just try and so can you! Good luck!

I'm taking it online as a six month course through UC Berkeley's extension courses. I find it difficult to learn on my own but things like Kahn Academy help. The reason I think I've been struggling so much is I needed a graphing calculator. For those of you who have had Stats is it possible to get through it without a graphing calculator? I am stuck on binomial distributions and finally broke down and spent $70 on a used TI-84 Plus. I'm hoping it'll make things a bit easier.

You definitely need a graphing calculator for Stats unless you like spending 30 minutes on one homework problem.

RUN AWAY!!!! I am an 'A' student and I struggled with the Rio Salado Stats class. It was awful. ZERO help from the instructor and the homework was lengthy and terrible. I don't think I learned a single thing and I received a 'B'.
