Starting my 40th year

Hi gang!

So I just have my yearly eval, which was over-all exceptional. But ...and there always is one...my manager who is half my age seems to me to be hung up on one particular thing....at times I appear anxious. Now granted this is not new to me even with this level of experience. I am admittedly a perfectionistic person...I often am assigned challenging clients. I love what I do most days and would like to continue.

Suggestions.

kitty, I think you should pay close attention in that meeting. Go there with your business face. Do not sit there and go to pieces verbally self-flagellating about this mistake. In fact, don't plan on talking much at all, and avoid doing so. Hear and understand what your manager says..

I agree. That is why I shared only facts. And also my steps to prevent any future issues of which I feel will work for me.

I know any manager is not ones freind....they are managers.

Let me rephrase...let it go - you won't forget - you've wrung your hands and beat yourself up enough, so put it in whatever mental compartment it fits and move forward. Eh?

Yes I know, and at work I will do this. At home I worry.

So got an email with something written for "my professional improvement". Basically its a follow the rules, I will be micro-managed on a monthly basis for a year. If another mess up it would be formal...a third mess up termination.

While I never took any of this error lightly I think its over-board. But for now will suck it up because I already know what I need to do. The thing is I and every nurse is human....and honestly I had never made an error before.

Yes I am considering leaving.

Get out of there.

I have not experienced this but I haven't seen it turn out well for others. It's almost as if it literally doesn't matter what they do at the point you're at right now. I wish it weren't true but I kind of think it is.

Good luck, kitty.

Very sad isn't it to be treated like you are a criminal or something. I have hung in there because I truly love what I do. I honestly nearly left 7 or so years ago. I had the paperwork ready. Then we got a different manager and it was ok for awhile. That one left.....now this one.

On the other hand, you might just outlast that manager. I can't even remember the names of all the managers of the last 20 years in my department. Yes, I been written up and counseled, accepted it, objected to what needed objecting to (writing it onto the form I was signing), and just kept going. Some evals you'd think I was a saint, Juliette herself re-incarnated; others, not so much.... I'm still there, still working, most of those forgotten managers are long gone into the night.

If the hunt is on, so be it. Don't let them chase you out! If they want to pay unemployment, let them, (resign and they won't have to).

And "med errors", are not supposed to be used as a punitive measurement! Otherwise, no one would report them. Wrong feeding that you caught and corrected should be praised as a "good catch", not used against you.

I have indeed outlasted many managers....these current two are numbers 14 & 15! I thought too this was rather harsh, as I said.

Still hanging in there.....seeing more and more reasons to set my planned day to retire...just under 18 months depending what I can get fixed up at my future home before I move....I will be 62.

Try 46.5 years...... I desire to work as long as cognitively and physically can...

We have seen a lot, can handle a lot....

Just keep on keeping on as long as you desire....I personally have failed retirement 4 times...I get nbored after 6 weeks or so.....and at this stage of our career, it is nice to be recruited, rather than apply for jobs....

Best Wiishes

Face it, ageism is real.......they have to pay us more for our experience.....

which a younger nurses can be payed less.......trust me if you are trying to die, and you want to live.... you want a nurse similar to me taking care of you......I know you know what I mean---

Hang on......I have found home health a grand "pre retirement" job, I actually enjoy

Takes some perfectionism to work in NICU I think, although I've seen a few that didn't seem to have it!
