Spring 2017 Chat

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

You guys are going to knock this out of the park! I don't even want to count what I have left, I know it's somewhere in the neighborhood of what you both have left.

I should really power through some of the chapter quizzes for a&p but I think I'll have a nap instead! í ½í¸ƒ

I see the light at the end of the tunnel. . !

I get in to statistics this morning at 07:00 only to be told to go home - I'm exempt from the final, so I don't need the 2 review days or the exam next week.

My micro lab exam was today; I missed one question because I misread it - I was/am super tired and my upstairs neighbors decided to herd baby elephants until the wee hours so my eyes and brain were a bit fuzzy!

Tomorrow I get to find out if I'm exempt from my Psychology final, and now I have 2 review days for A&P II before the final.... So hopefully only 2 more exams left! :(

I believe in you all and the power to do the thing!

I'm so envious of people that get to skip finals! None of my teachers offer that.

Also, I took one of my tests for A&P II, got a 94. The next test is a take home exam that covers material she didn't cover in lecture, so it's a lot of reading and searching. That shouldn't be too bad though.

I'm not used to the whole 'skip finals' thing - It's nice, I won't lie... But that never happened back home. It's another reason why I feel like my community college just hands out grades sometimes. It's all well and good learning stuff for an exam, but finals are a way to see if you're actually retaining that information :/

You're going to rock your exams, Jen!

Unknown is done. I might go to the lab one more time to run some final test. Have a short unknown lab report to writer up (1 page), have three chapters of online homework that is 100 questions for each chapter due next week, prep 3 study guides for an exam next week for AP2, and 2 finals in 2 weeks.

Have to prep a study guide Tuesday for Micro and test is Thursday. I am hoping the instructor gives us the questions to review this coming Thursday for the following Thursday exam.

Have a short lab assignment homework for AP2. A take home nutrition lab that is done I am just going to type it up to make it neat.

Then have two weeks to prep my micro lab book and complete assignments in it.

I attend a community college and my school definitely does not hand out grades. I believe that's what people expect when choosing a community college for nursing VS a university but I've heard that hospitals believe that my college produces more prepared nurses than the large university.

ETA: I hope I'm not coming across the wrong way, your community college is obviously just different than mine :)

Thank you! I sure hope you're right. Side note: Is your username based on Stranger Things? Because everytime I read a post by you that's all I can think of. haha

I handed in my Unknown lab report today and gave my presentation over viruses in Micro. And I also handed in my last 3 homework assignments in Chem and had my last lab today. I'm officially done with all homework assignments/lab reports/papers/the like!! I still have several quizzes, exams, and finals to study for (t-minus 17 days!) but it feels SO good to get the fluff off my chest.

For sure! It's all good!

Back when I was living in Idaho, the local CC was very respectable; they didn't hand out grades and the work ethic in general was much better. Life happened and I ended up moving south to Memphis and it's a complete 180 :/ Some professors really make you work for what you have, others.... not so much.

The advanced programs my community college offers are pretty respected in the city - we have some of the best prepared nursing, radiology students etc compared to the local 4yr schools. That being said; some of the professors leave a lot to be desired, especially when handing out passing grades to people that obviously have no clue.

For instance, my A&P2 class has been slowed down so much by people asking questions that would have been covered in primary school (US equivalent is grade school?) science, we don't actually have time to do our GI exam before the end of the semester, and we lose our mandated study day because we have to come in to play catch up. :/

Hope everyone is hanging in there! Did two quizzes yesterday and I did well. We just finished up our 8 page Unknowns paper, so it's ready to turn in tomorrow. Today I A&P II, then tutoring so it's a long day.

I'm pretty excited about my first official volunteer shift on Friday, even though I should be spending all that time studying!

I am fairly obsessed with ST, yes, but I chose the name also because it's both halves of my birthday. Funny you put that together, I haven't come across many people familiar with the show. I can't WAIT for season 2.

Capa! Great news! It must be a relief to not have to worry about those finals. I haven't had that happen - yet. The sociology class I'm taking in the fall, he says in the syllabus that you can take the 15 weekly quizzes -or- the comprehensive final but if you take the final, it is your entire grade. Makes me a bit nervous! I will probably just elect not to take it!

I go to university and I'm constantly surprised at how many classes are purely exam based or weekly quiz based. I thought it would be more papers and assignments and busy work? I don't know. Different everywhere, I guess.

For sure! It's all good!

That sounds so frustrating! The credits I've earned before starting at my CC were actually online or at a different college so I never had to experience taking basic courses like English, psychology, biology, etc. in person. So when I took math and anatomy in person at my CC, I was actually shocked at the questions some people would ask. Whoever said that there was no such thing as a stupid question... .-.
