Splinters

What are your best splinter tips, what do you do if you can't get them out??

Most splinters that kids show to me, don't happen at school. If I can grab the end of the splinter and pull it out, I do. If not, I have them wash the area and put a bandaid on it. Tell them to have mom/dad/whoever check it out at home.

i may use a splinter out to pop up the end. but i won't go digging. if i can't get it then i do the same as above.

I've "removed" more invisible splinters this week than I care to think about. It's psychic surgery in the nurse's office! As for real splinters, I removed them with tweezers or splinter out if I can, but no digging. I also hand the tweezers to the kid if they are capable and really wanting to try. Otherwise, bacitracin and a bandaid.

I love splinters!!! I don't dig (very much) but I use Splinter Out and try to grab the end of it with tweezers. I also wear my dorky magnifying goggles so I can see what I am doing.

Pretty much the same as the others. My little ones can't take a lot of digging around, so if I can't grab the end easily with tweezers, i put some ointment and a bandaid on. My older teens who seem oblivious to pain, I'll try a splinter out for a bit, or give them the tweezers and say have at it!

I have the older kids. I'll dig out a splinter with Splinter out if I can - I've gotten pretty good at it, I must say. If I don't attempt, I would have several MS kiddos coming back to me for multiple visits because the splinter is distracting them in class... :banghead:

But I also don't really see invisible splinters. If a kid tells me they have a splinter, it is usually there and 95% easy to remove. I did see one that managed to get under the nail. I soaked that one, called the parent and recommended continued soaking to try and drive it out, but if it wasn't budging, it may need to be removed by the child's PCP.

I'm at a Christian school with a playground named The Promised Land which I think is hysterical, particularly because the playground equipment is known for giving huge splinters. I call it The Splinter Land.

Anyway, I use Splinter Out and tiny tweezers if the kiddo will let me. Otherwise, Bactine and a bandaid.

This reminds me, at youth camp I had to take one Little Darling to the ER to have 2 splinters removed that was under her nail. Took all I had not to laugh out loud when the dr walked in and he was cross-eyed. Not slightly either. However, he was very gentle and kind with the Little Darling. He cut back her nail until they came out.
