Snow in Houston

It NEVER snows in Houston b/c it is always too hot! Every Christmas we are walking around in shorts b/c it's usually like 70 degrees. To my surprise, I walked outside tonight and it was snowing. I couldn't believe it. My car was covered in snow & all the houses were white..... it completely shut all the roads down b/c Houstonians aren't exactly used to driving in this weather. We got around 1-2 inches which is a huge deal for us here. This is officially our first white Christmas in Houston history! It's supposed to be back up to 70 again by Monday though :rolleyes: . After just one night of snow, I don't know how those of you up North function in such cold weather. It is only 33 degrees here.

Are you serious????????? I'm about 1.5-2 hrs away (east tx) We haven't had a white X-mas since I was about 5 (20 yrs ago). I'm sorry to say we didn't get any, its cold but barely freezing (still to cold for me though). Well enjoy the snow and have a good Xmas.:)

I know, this is weird! I'm Fort Worth, and we have snow here, too. We actually get to wear sweaters and coats on Christmas!!! The highs next week will be back to normal (70-ish) for us as well. By then I'm sure we'll all be ready for that warmer weather if we aren't already!! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!!:balloons:

One quick thing: Don't you think it's funny that here when we get .00005 inches of frozen anything everyone freaks out and closes schools and offices, while everyone in colder states probably thinks we are crazy.

MMMhmmm.....we're at - 42 C right now. (with the wind chill). Kind of chilly.

The snow missed us here in the Austin area, though temp got down to about 20 for a change. YIPPEE!!

I will NEVER EVER get used to shorts, sandals and tee shirts in December uh-uh now way. It's just not right. We did get a bit of a snow last year, but by the time I woke up it was gone

I shovelled 4 ft of snow out of my driveway to get to xmas dinner! Enjoy your warm weather, envy you ( sometimes). Merry Christmas all!

There was snow on third coast beaches today, talk about strange.

That's the way it is here in Alabama. If they even so much as mention a flurry everyone freaks out and flocks to the grocery store for milk and bread. And yes I'm sure the people up north really think we're crazy. lol

oh that too bad austin didn't see snow....my brother just moved there in the fall, and it would have been funny for him to have snow, and us here in pittsburgh with a sunny day :) Oh it was cold though...haha...ho-ho-ho

:Singing:Yes, the snow yesterday night was really nice. It didn't stick and it was completely gone when I woke up this morning. But the last time it snowed here in Houston was in 1989. So it's been a loooong time. I remember last Christmas it was hot and gross outside. Sometimes you just don't know what to expect. But I got some of the snow last night and put it in my freezer. *laugh* It's a momento. Anyway, the last time it snowed here I did the exact same thing. Got some snow in a zip lock baggie and kept it for a few years. I'm a dork like that. :p :icon_redf

My middle daughter is here visiting us from Houston. Never in a million years did she think it would snow in Houston. :rotfl: And...there's no snow here for her and my grandson to see. :)

I had to laugh at the posts about people freaking out and laying in supplies for a blizzard if the forecast even mentions the possibility of a flurry.....Here in western Oregon, we're almost as bad, the schools shut down if there's more than an inch or two on the ground, and if you go into the supermarket before an expected snowstorm, half the population is in there buying up all the 'staples' (bread, milk, and especially fire logs and candles). We don't know how to drive in the white stuff either......we go about 2.5 MPH on the freeway and forget everything we ever knew about steering. :chuckle

Last year, the entire Willamette Valley from Portland to Eugene all but closed down because of the snow we got between Christmas and the first week of January. I live in a hilly area of town, so while folks in town were contending with a mere dusting, we were digging out from under nearly a foot of fresh powder. Our electricity was out for almost 24 hours, and we pert near froze our baguettes off.......the snow wasn't fun any more after that, but it didn't go away for weeks! Some would melt, and then another snowstorm would come along and dump more.....finally, we had a terrific ice storm that snapped pretty much all the trees (AND power lines) that had survived the first few coatings of freezing precipitation, and then gradually it all went away.

This year, we haven't even had a threat of snow until this past week, when they thought it might snow on Christmas night, but it's about 45 degrees out and raining.....way too warm for anything like that. :) Doesn't matter.......most of our really cold weather doesn't come along until January and February anyway!

I just got back to CA on 12/21 with my gf after a 2 week stay in Victoria (at her partent's home). I grew up in St. Louis so have been lucky enough to enjoy snow during Christmas, but unfortunately my gf has never enjoyed a White Christmas since she isn't 86 yrs old. She was already sad from having to spend her first Christmas away from her family; missing the snow didn't help.
