There are many people in my program that have young children and are in nursing school. We even have one girl that is 6 months pregnant and is in her second semester. It can be done. I'm sure you've heard about how stressful nursing school is and how it totally consumes your life... if you put a family into that equation it's even harder. While you can do both, it may be best to decide which one is a priority at this point in your life. Kudos to all the parents that are in nursing school! Good luck with your decision.
We do everything on dummies... NG tubes, catheters, IV's, everything. If we want to practice on a live person, we have to find a very understanding family member! As far as med access goes, we have to have the RN we are working with or our instructors code. It's pretty inconvenient, but that's how it goes!
Louisepug, when I read your post, it sounded exactly like me. I can TOTALLY relate to your feelings. Nothing is more discouraging than trying your hardest and still feeling like your not catching on. Get with the teacher one on one and tell him what your going through. At least that way he will know you're trying and that you care about your grade. I know most of my nursing professors will go out of their way for a student if they know we are trying as hard as we can. Ask him if he can try to simplify things a little more in class. If you talk to him, at least you can say you made an effort to tackle the problem. In the meantime, don't get down on yourself b/c your not catching on. Chances are, you're not the only one that feels that way. Just b/c you may not get Pharm or one system of A&P (and the nervous system is difficult) doesn't mean that you dont have what it takes to be a nurse. As long as you are compassionate and know that this is what you really want to do, then keep working. Keep looking at the long term goal... to be a RN. Dont sweat the small stuff. Chin up!
