shift differential question

Hi, I was wondering what is the examples of shift differential where you work. My husband gets 20% more for graveyards and Sundays. I just started my first job on the afternoon shift 3 p-11 p and will be starting graveyards 10:30 pm-7 am in 2 weeks. I asked someone else what the shift diff was and it is only .50 more per hour. I thought was kind of ridiculous. Is this a normal shift diff or just extremely low compensation for working a tough schedule?

thanks

That shift diff seems a little low to me. Rest assured, if the facility can save a dime off the wages of the nurses they will.

Wow! fifty cents? I've seen as high as 6/hr around here for nights.

Where I am going to work - it is $4.00 for PM's and $5.50 more for nights.

$0.50 more per hour for nights is simply too low!

here, 6pm-6am is "Nights". During the week, you get $3 more for nights. $4 more for weekend nights.

I think I got a 50 cent diff on 3-11...back in 1983! Right now ours is 15-18% of your base. Check with other hospitals in your area.

I'm starting as a student nurse intern tomorrow (half way through nursing school) and they pay at the hospital I'll be at 1.00 more for pms and I think 2 more for noc shift...not sure about that one cause I'll be PMs. It's not a lot, but then our area doesn't pay nurses a lot. :(

cassi

2.00 for evenings. $3.00 for nights. $1.00 for all shifts on weekends.

Nights $5.00 Weekends $5.00....Look around!!

For CNAs, PCTs, student interns, that kind of thing, $0.50-$2.50 is usual around here. For LPNs, it's $2.50-$4.50, and RNs it's around $3.50-$5.50. Weekends will be a shift+weekend diff, although our techs at work get shift diff but no weekend diff.

Southern NH: $1.75 eves, $4.50 nocs, 20% extra in addition to shift difs on the weekend.

$1.65 for nights. Nothing additional for weekends.

$5.00 nights, $3.00 weekends. So weekend nights is $8.00. Sounds like yours is quite low. Another hospital in my area is 20% of base pay for nights, don't know about weekends.
