Scrub Colors!

I was perusing allheart.com looking at scrubs and they come in such a wide variety of colors! I was amazed because it seems whenever I'm at a hospital everyone is wearing the same boring blue.:(

What about it ladies and gents-- are you required to wear a certain brand and color at your jobs? I'd love to learn which hospitals (if any) let you pick your own fun colors (like apple green and lilac!).

What kind of scrubs did all you nurses wear to work today???:nurse:

At Beaumont the nurse techs wear seafoam green and the RNs wear blue.

At Karmanos, they let us wear whatever color we want, but the rest of the DMC facilities have to wear specific colors (RNs = navy, PCAs = burgundy, etc.)

Maybe I should try and get a student nurse position at Karmanos next summer since they let you pick(assuming I get in for fall)! Those yellow scrubs online are calling to me.... I might just order a pair to wear around the house.

My neighbors would probably appreciate me watering the garden in yellow scrubs vs my pajamas with cowgirls on them.:D

What about everyone else? I already heard about Beaumont and DMC. What about Henry Ford or St. Johns?

What did YOU wear to work today?

At henry ford and Beaumont, RNs wear ceil blue. Henry ford nurses can wear prints as long as ceil blue is in it. Beaumont is not so flexible. Nurse externs at HF wear white. Nurse techs and nursing assistants at beaumont wear seafoam green.

I had a clinical at Oakwood Annapolis and they could wear whatever they wanted. I had a clinical at Oakwood Southshore and the RN's had to wear Navy blue, and the aides wore seafoam green.

I was at Wyandotte for OB and I think because they are a special floor, everyone wore the hospital issue green.

I disagree on the DMC comment. I work at Children's as a Student Nurse Associate and we can wear whatever color and print we choose.

I don't know about the rest of the DMC.

I am an nurse extern at HFH-Wyandotte and we can wear any color that we want as long as it is coordinated. I wore black and white yesterday and today I am wear aqua. (OP you wanted to know what I wore today, right?)

We used to be able to wear whatever color we wanted, but now it's blue.

Only navy blue or white allowed for me.

On our unit, we have to wear solid colors, only fluorescent colors are banned. No patterns.

St. John's nurses wear navy blue and/or a printed top w/navy in it, and Nurse Tech's and patient care tech's were burgundy.

Is there any restriction on scrubs at Henry Ford Wyandotte? From what I see everyone wears anything. I like not having to wear the same color everyday. Thanks!

Regarding the DMC, when I was last there (1 year ago), it was only Harper Hospital (and Hutzel, I think) where the RN's had to wear navy. It was a change based on a survey that was done asking patients their opinions. Patients complained that they never knew who the nurses were (vs. techs, PT RT, houskeeping, etc.). The patients opted for first choice white. Harper opted for Navy and they switched to having to wear a large "RN" dangle from their badges.

At some of the other hospitals, various departments are required to wear certain colors.

For instance at Detroit Receiving ER, they also wore navy. RT's at DRH wore black. Ancillay staff (housekeeping) wore burgundy, as did the unit clerks lab coats. All surgical units (including burns) wore hospital issue seafoam green.:jester:
