Scheduling...

I'm starting to think monkeys do mine.:monkeydance::zzzzz:dzed:

My unit supposedly does self scheduling where employees pick the days they want to work as long as we work 2 weekends a month. However, at the end of the day, the manager can still change your days before the official schedule comes out.

A group of co-workers does ours. They are great at helping you save up enough vacation time.......because they never allow you to USE any.... :banghead:

...with their eyes closed.

Ours is self-schedule. What a joke and lame attempt at my manager's ploy into thinking we have some resemblance of an opinion on our work schedule. Pick up an extra shift? I don't think so. You scratch my back and maybe I'll show up for my scheduled shifts.

We're over-staffed by 2 nurses every night. Someone calls off nightly and we're running out of excuses ;)

We have a Central Scheduling office with 2 employees. Full time and part time you have set schedule and CS works to fill in the holes. We enter our availability in the computer and they schedule from that. It doesn't really matter for the fulltimers because their schedule never gets added onto unless they agree to over time. Part time they will use you when you are marked available to fill in the holes. If they want to add you to a schedule that is already posted they have to check with you first.

Self scheduling--as long as you schedule a combination of 3 Fri and/or Sat and 1 Mon and 1 Thu. That's 5 of 12 shifts. I guess the "self" part comes in cause you get to pick which Mon you want to work!

Yah, must be a scheduling service that someone outsources - cause I'm pretty sure the same monkeys do ours. It sucks and I'm about to my limit on how much more schedule non-sense I'm going to tolerate.

Guess I lucked out! We have a great scheduler, she listens to the staff and tries her best to give you the times you need. No, I wont tell you her name cause I don't want her to leave us!

We have an online program that will allow us to pick the days that we would like to have call (great, huh?) and pick the days that we would like to have off. I have no idea why the schedulers use this program, because we don't ever get what we request. I suppose the only reason we have this program is to show the Magnet Royalty that "we DO have an avenue for nurses to have input into their own schedules, and we value their voice in the decision making process!" Buncha bunk.

Another hospital that I worked for, the scheduler asked for requests. When the requests came, she denied them all. When the staff asked why she did this, she stated that only senior nurses were allowed time off as requested. Hmm....so why do we have to fill out requests again?

so it seems the many places do self-scheduling...but the real question is how often is the schedule you request the schedule you get?

Wow, I didn't realize how lucky I am to have self-scheduling. We have to work one weekend/month. The shift coordinators really try to adhere to the shifts we self-schedule, but they sometimes switch shifts to even them out.

We have 8hr staff and 12hr staff, I work acute care. We have set schedules, you work on wednesdays and if a holiday lands on it you work, nevermind you worked it years in a row- for example. If you don't like your schedule you wait until someone quits and you take their spot.
