Look on your state's BON lookup. It is on there.

What causes you to believe this person might not be an RN?

I knew someone would ask me this hehe :)

This person is someone I met in my mother in law's house....and I asked her what she does...so she told me she is a RN for a rehab facility...I got so excited about it and started to ask her questions. She acted very strange not really knowing what to answer me and she insisted not to go for nursing...so it is just a feeling I got from talking to her. I was just curious...I might not even see this person again...I am thinking she works there just not as RN

Thank you all

A lot of people pretend to be RNs and LPNs. In my area when there were cases like that it was usually fraud, where they pretended to be nurses in order to solicit money for certain things like March of Dimes, or whatever. It's pretty common because people instinctively want to trust someone who says they're a nurse and will give over a few bucks in a heartbeat.

We had a case here in Missouri recently where the mayor of a small suburb outside St. Louis stated she was an RN, refered to herself as a nurse but it turned out she was a nurses aid/tech. She was prosecuted by the state BON and ended up resigning as mayor.

I dont know her last name so my sister in law will find out....it is not important for me to know but for some reason I think she is not. Also sometimes and maybe it is more in my culture than here in the US people are pretending to be something they are not mostly because they just dont want to say they are nursing assistants etc ....sehe actually paused when I asked her what she does

Anyway I will let you all know lol....like I have nothing better to do

Ditto. I know a couple of people who have lied and said they are RNs. It makes no sense to me either.

I know of a friend of my Dad who was saying she is a nurse but turned out she is a tech. That just burns me up. It takes alot of hard work and dedication to become a nurse and I absolutely can't stand it when someone says they are a nurse and in fact they are a CNA.

Please try not to let this upset you soo much.... These people that pretend are obviously not happy with what they do, and are most likely hurting inside and often feel like a failure. I mean, if you didn't go to school (or are not is school) to become a nurse and your job is a Tech and you think that is all you will ever be.... would you really want to anounce that to the world? Maybe we should take care not to pry into other's lives. I am an older nursing student and when people ask me what I do... do you think I really want to say nursing student???? No, I just cringe and inside I can't wait until I can actually say I am a nurse. I do not misrepresent myself and say that I am a nurse... but I could imagine thta if I didn't have a future of being a nurse... it would be very hard to say "I'm a tech"
