what are the five rights of administering medication?

The 5 "Rights"

Because medication safety encompasses so many areas, it's helpful to have an intuitive way to break down the process. One way of doing so is to examine the "five rights." Says Dr Lister, "In medicine, doctors and nurses often learn about the five rights of drug dispensing: right medication, right dose, right patient, right route, and right time. This is also a good starting place for doing QI with your medication safety practices facility-wide." We asked a number of experts to expand on each of these five "rights." Here's what they said.
