you guys are mostly from the USA?
I just glanced over a thread and it seems you guys are ridculously overpaid?
In Australia.. nursing is by far not a well paid job. Its maybe just average. My step dad who was a traffic controller - held a sign that said "slow" and "stop" on the flipside got paid $10 an hour more than me.. i kid you not.

My family does pretty well but it is certainly not due to my salary....my husband makes the bulk of the income in my house! :)
It is important to remember that while salaries vary from region to region, so does the cost of living. Comparing wages internationally is even more difficult due to exchange rates, tax rates, differences in workload and responsibilities, etc.
Do you feel that nurses in Australia are underpaid?

Rich nurses? I'm sure there are some. I've actually known a couple who were pretty well off. Of course, one was married to a surgeon and one was married to an anesthesiologist - the docs were providing their beemers and million-dollar homes, not the nurses.
Overpaid? Ridiculously so? Huh? A lot of nurses do pretty well, even by comparison to other professions, but overpaid? Uh, no. Actually, as in all careers, there are some nurses that are overpaid because they are lousy nurses. That's no different than any other job, though.
I'm going to step aside now because I don't want to get burned by all the flames soon to be headed your way...

no we are overworked and underpaid.. i work my bum off and uncle sam takes the bulk of it.. for all the education we must have and the many patients to one nurse .. we are very underpaid..my mom ( who just retired from 50 years of nursing) said it best yesterday at breakfast " nursing is still considered an act of charity, as it was when i was a nurse "..

Yes, we are well paid. That is why there are more people trying to immigrate into the USA than people emigrating out of it.

There's days when a million dollars an hour isn't enough, and there's days when I can't believe I get paid to do this.

Your average nurse does make a good bit more than the average hourly wage here in the US...but given the level of responsibility and the necessary and continuing education it probably isn't sufficient.

Well, it depends on what your outgoing expenses are! I tried to be married on just my income and things did not work out. I am comfortable. I can support myself and not depend on anyone else. I guess it is all relative.
