RIC Spring 2009

Has anyone else applied for Spring '09 at RIC? I hope the letters are mailed this week. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet.

did you get your books for 220 and 222 the first week of the semester?

No, I always get them at least one week before. You will need to start reading right away, so make sure you get those books soon.

Kelsey, I also requested Foote for 220 and Blasdell for 222. Let me know what section you wind up getting. Congrats again!

o cool ill let you know. what day are you taking the TEAS?

Rhodygirl- How do i find out what books I'll need?

Go to the RIC webpage; search "bookstore" and then click on the Spring 2009 booklist. Go to nursing 220 and 222......there are tons of books to buy, so just write them all down and take that list with you into the bookstore.

Thanks RhodyGirl for helpin me out here. For teachers i signed up for 220 with Foote for both my first and second choice. Then for 222 Blasdell was my first choice and Wilks was my second choice. Do you know anything about these teachers??? How was your first semester? Thanks again.

Hi, I'm Chris and I was in Lauren's class (RhodyGirl) so I can offer my take on the first semester. I think it can be difficult but manageable, you really need to keep on top of your reading and studying (especially with Foote in 220.) For 222 I had Aflague but Blasdell is really nice and loves to help students and Wilks is a good teacher so your good with either one of them. Its all a little intense at first but it can be done, like I said just keep on top of the reading and study all the time. Good luck!

Im taking the TEAS on Jan 15th you?

im taking it Jan 15th as well and im going to go to the orientation before it.

Okay I will be attending that as well. Question for Lauren or Chris, since I a second bachelors student I will be taking the accelerated track and taking N223 and N224 as well this semester. Do you guys have any recommendations for professors? And do I need to get scrubs for this class?

**Servello for Health Assessment, and either Mock, Wilks, Servello or Blanchette for Fundamentals

Ok, here are the things you need and I would recommend doing this ASAP! (besides the BCI and all of that)

**Scrubs--go to Alexander's in Warwick; you'll need the Cherokee top and bottoms in the color "wine". They will send the top out for you to be embroidered. Make sure you have them order you a nametag as well.

**Shoes-- white with a full back (I bought Dansko's)

**Stethoscope-- they recommend a Littmann classic II

**Besides the books, you'll need the nurse pack (it's a blue bag filled with goodies) from the book store

**Watch with a second hand, waterproof

**Lab coat (can get at Alexanders)

**Patch for lab coat; buy this at the nursing office at RIC, it's $5 and must be sewn onto your lab coat on the left arm, 2 finger widths down from the shoulder seam

**Health requirements: 2 step PPD, flu vaccine, T-Dap vaccine, etc.

**Reflex hammer

**BP cuff

**Penlight

You can get most, if not all of your supplies at Alexanders, and they give you a 20% discount.

I actually just checked online, and most of the clinical sections are closed. The only sections that have room are DeNuccio, Dame, and Harritos. I would stay away from the 1st mentioned name. :D

Okay thanks. I actucally think I dont have a choice in who's class im in. Once you are granted the petition they automatically enroll you. Soo we will see!

Ahh, gotcha. I figured they might do that. OH! And I forgot to mention: when you go to Fogarty on the nursing floor (where the nursing office is), check the bulletin board and write down all of the reading assignments for 223/224. You'll want to get started on that soon, it's a lot of stuff, and most of it has to be done by the first week of classes.
