  1. Paralyzing weakens the muscles used to breathe, so it is harder to wean people making them subject to many more potential complications.
  2. So I see these complaints all valid and frequent, yet no one seems to know how to write their legislators, that's where all of this should be directed, over and over. Also, healthcare is in shambles, has been for years, but as nurses, everytime we try and take a stand, we have been held hostage by empathy, and shamed into submission for the short term when we have strikes or protests. We are told we are selfish and greedy and need to get back and do our jobs. Every time, we submit. With the legislators now only listening to their corporate donors, we likely have lost our voice there. It will take a severe, serious action by nurses to be heard. We need to think in the long term, stick to our guns, and not allow our empathy to be weaponized against us. If we keep knuckling under, all that we say we stand for is a lie, safety and care declines, our workloads keep increasing and our numbers decline. What's it going to take for nurses to wake up and do something???
  3. Calling it "gene therapy" totally negates your argument that you have thought critically , are educated and considered the science. You indeed have not.
  4. I had similar as a young nurse, found out I had Graves disease, got that fixed and found my chill. Been a nurse for 37 years, but if that is not the case for you, you have time, and your education can still be useful, even in an entirely different career. Check your thyroid first.
  5. Too many nurses are intellectually lazy. Day to day nursing doesn't require being able to rattle off how the Krebs cycle works, or how other detailed cellular biology works, so it is easily forgotten. Go back and read your cellular biology, review immunity, review all of that, then read how the mRNA vaccines work. Soon, you will understand why some of the vaccine myths are exactly that, a myth fairly easy to debunk with actual science and biology. Is it wrong to question safety? No, it is not, but it IS wrong to rely on non scientific sources to find the answers. Cross reference information, it is not hard to find real reliable answers. Also, remember we are watching real science deal with evolution in action.
  6. You are part of the problem. Just because things haven't changed much for you and you are willing to accept low wages and unsafe patient conditions, you will perpetuate the status quo. Sounds like a nightmare on a good day for the patient, and yet you are satisfied. Says a lot about how you care for patients. What you described is sick.
  7. "Nursing is not a difficult job IMO and 50/hour is 100kish which is just outlandish for the level of work required." Just wow. Prepare for crucifixion.....
  8. "Unpopular take: There are a certain percentage of nurses now that didn't really want to be nurses in the first place. They did it because they could make good money, because their first choice didn't work out, because they needed it as a stepping stone to another advanced healthcare career, because ________ (insert non-nursing reason here). These folks probably won't stick it out. On the other side of the coin are people that only ever wanted to be nurses. They felt it in their blood at some point. That is what life presented them as their vocation and they always knew that is what their destiny was. They are nurses, not because a licensing agency told them they met the requirements, but because they were called to serve by a stronger pull of some kind. Some of these folks are done too now, but many will still be there doing the job." While I love my job, and have been in nursing over 35 year, this martyr attitude is what keeps nursing from changing for the better. It is short sighted to think that sticking it out "for the patients" will result in anything other than continued abuse &, less safety for patients and nurses. When we really love something, we need to make the hard choices and get serious to fight for real change to happen. The short term pain will be worth it if we can affect change for better staffing, pay and safety. We need to get our heads out of the sand, get active politically, and refuse to accept the continued unsafe demands being placed on us. They count on that martyrdom, they use it against us, and cash those big executive bonus checks, while patients suffer, we suffer. We are a force to be reckoned with if we get smart and use it against them. They will use guilt and abandonment arguments as metaphorical chains to keep the status quo.
  9. Major eye roll.... Big players and controllers of capitalism have largely been the US and Europe. Consequently they also have exploited workers from Asian countries and others for profit. This has resulted in less jobs for the US workers. It's not rocket science. Also, they have exploited poor for vaccines etc. just as the OP indicated. Not once did I indicate I am pro socialism, nor anti-capitalist, however, those problems are present and denying them allows more abuses. Wealth inequality is a problem with unregulated capitalism and we are seeing that now. Corporations own our politicians and they legislate heavily in their favor. This stifles competition, and makes it more difficult for the small guy to make it. Not impossible, but way harder than it used to be. Asking for all to pay their share and use taxes to benefit all is not socialism.... it's civilization.
  10. Who said anything about being pro socialist? Triggered much? Fact is capitalism has been dominated by mostly white countries, Europe and the US. Asia is a relative new comer to modern capitalism. Our policies have exploited poorer countries and their workers to the detriment of our own and for the benefit of the few. Capitalism without regulation results in what we are seeing now, a repeat of the Robber Barons and major wealth inequality, declining worker income, safety and benefits. No one is promoting socialism and IF you believe that, you are nothing but an ignorant tool of the far right conspiracy theorists. Oh, and I don't mind caring for others, it's why I became a nurse. I want to see my tax dollars go for roads, healthcare, education, you know, things that benefit the majority of US citizens, not more yachts, vacation homes and toys for the excessively rich.
  11. Black leaders are also subject to human greed and debauchery just as white leaders. Some sold their own people as slaves in the past, and some will sell their own out to whatever interests serve their purposes now. However, that still does not eliminate racism as a motivator to exploit the poor and impoverished, those leaders are merely a tool of White dominated capitalism.
  12. Not that they hosted a rally, I don't think many in the city wanted it there, but there are so many blatantly and belligerently disregarding science, CDC recommendations because "their rights," to not wear a mask or distance and eat/drink at a restaurant or bar, which is a slap in the face to all healthcare workers and other front-line workers everywhere. Their rights do not cancel our basic right to live. Their greed, and entitlement are the real tyranny, as front line workers have no choice but to work, or be denied unemployment. Also, I have never caught COPD, DM or CVD from my patients choices.... Big difference but I am sure you know that and are just deflecting more nonsense.
  13. Caring for patients having consequences for the lifestyle is not an issue. None of us can "catch" their CVD, COPD, Type 2 DM. However, we can catch and die from this virus, from folks who flagrantly deny science, CDC recommendation, and think that wearing a mask is akin to tyranny, and their "rights" are greater than our right to life, and our families. That friends, is the difference. It matters not that they were at 45's rally or a bar. They don't care. Cannot blame the OP for not wanting to volunteer for ingrates.
  14. OK boomer. From a (barely) boomer. Get off the generational high horse, it's divisive and unhelpful, and frankly disgraceful.
  15. When are we as nurses going to quit allowing ourselves to be victimized? It is long past time we take our place at the table and demand rights. Advocacy does NOT end at the bedside. Out highest advocacy should be in the government, where we advocate for ourselves, our patients, our communities, and country. We have lawmakers who have zero understanding of little else than the almighty dollar, let alone the human body (especially ones with a uterus). The country is screwed without us!! It's high time we take that power and shove it down their throats and demand an equal seat at the table to be heard and demand action. I am sick of the choice of care taking being used to manipulate and guilt us into subservience. The laws are severely skewed to all of our detriment, self, patient, etc. Our lives are worth more than their filthy money!!!
