Are the paper or computer net test equally hard?
i also took the paper version, didn't know there was a computer version with instant answer! darn that woulda been nice rather then being on pins and needles! anythehoo, just wanted to tell you that you are not alone on not liking the reading part. i hated it, not that it was difficult but it was imo boring as all get out! i remember reading about a bear and a crocidile and how they hibernate. the whole time thinking "can't this be interesting?!?!?" lol i hate to read something if it is boring so i had to force myself to concentrate on it! now give me my a&p book or my micro book and i read it and actually liked it (i am a bit strange maybe??) but i found it interesting. good luck on your results!

EMT-B into Nursing
hi there! i am an emt-b, for almost 3 years now and have a spot in the fall start of the rn program at my local cc. i have completed most of my pre-reqs (last ones i am doing now on line). i had the same worry about clinicals and such along with still getting my con-eds. but i figure with planning and thought it can blend together. as for the con-eds, i try to take as many i am able to along the way, or taking advantage of when there are the large weekend seminars that will give many if not all the con-eds i would need. this is the basic plan of attack i have come up with so to speak: work right along on my con-eds, if i am falling short by the due date i will take a weekend seminar to finish them up (i don't know where you are but here in pa over the summer there is one up in owego ny and they hold one in the poconos). this will keep my status current for the next three years, as i will only have the next 2 years tied up for my nursing classes that would leave me one year to then get my con-eds covered. as for working as an emt during this time, i think it would be a good mix. the downtime can be used as study time, and you will also have the advantage of knowing the folks in your local hospitals to help explain things if you need it. at least that is my basic plan, now i admit things could change but i feel that by having a basic plan and the desire it can be made to work. (positive thoughts help make it possible - that is a motto someone once told me) as for being an emt-p, my boyfriend wade does that, infact he was one of the people that made me realize things can work. he was an emt-b and worked at a factory and owns his own mobile dj service, he wanted his paramedic and worked his butt off to get it. he would work 10 - 12 hour days at the factory, go to night school and run night clinicals. funcitoned on 2 hours of sleep quite often and weekends were a huge jumble of study, djing, and clinicals. i was his support staff when he needed to rant or needed help with the dj business and now he is my support for my journey. the "secrets" i have learned so far, stay positive - keep the thought in your head that you want it and will get there, also, it will really help if your friends/family/partner-wife-girlfriend is supportive. time will be limited and as long as those around you are understanding to the this fact it can be done fairly well.

medical terminology?
i am taking medical terminology this semester (on line). thanks for the websites!! i have them marked in my favorites now! lol!! it is nice to have some extra study material and places to practice on line! my class uses a book called the language of medicine (7th edition) by saunders, i like the book but i also like getting quizes and such from other resources to be sure i am learning the info and i can't cheat on my practice pages lol! you know what i mean, where you read the question and ramble it around your head and then you know you can look in the book to confirm before you commit an answer! lol no the online quizes that the instructor gives you can't do that as the time limit is short.

Anyone else in a funk?
although i understand what you mean about the adolescents (make you want to choke them sometimes don't they?? lol) i am in the opposite boat, this is the first (and only) semester i am doing on line classes, and i have having a heck of a time! i feel like i am not accomplishing anything, and i can't seem to get "into" it! i just need to force myself to do this i guess! any tips on taking these online classes?

waiting (im)patiently....
at the school i attend the wait was about 3 months the deadline was dec. 31 and they normally sent out letters in march after checking with the alternate list from the year prior to verify how many still wanted their spaces.

got my NET test results back...
From what I was told: 1. You must pass it (obvious there sorry) 2. It is used as a determiner if it is between you and someone else 3. The school will use it to help determine how you best understand things. So that they can aid you if you have a problem. The reading part was boring IMO. I remember there was something about bears and crocidiles hibernating, it didn't interest me so I had to force myself to read it! LOL Give me my A&P book and I would read and read as I found that interesting, but a bear's sleep pattern and I was like

Whadja Get For Xmas From Hubbie?
oh that sucks! a marriage might be in trouble but if that is the course he took, then i hardly see how it will get any better! the jerk! okay sorry i am done venting on him. my boyfriend has given me the chance to go back to school and not carry a full time job, i do have a job over summer i can work around my classes and i do odd jobs for folks but that is it. so, i really wasn't expecting much for christmas. i was very surprized to find a gift certificate for a day spa! i get to go and have a total girly day!!! along with some other little things so i was very floored! all my fears of people not liking or being happy with their reduced gifts was really for nothing. everyone seemed just very happy to have all of us get together, so i felt a bit ashamed to think folks would be upset over material goods. i love my family and friends!

roll call!!
Okay - sorry I am late - been up to my eyeballs in books, notes, and flash cards! I am Ann, 35 from NE PA. My BF and I are proud owners of an 1850 house (that maybe SOMEDAY we can fix up lol!) and proud parents of 3 dogs (Rottie, Golden, and a Saint) and 2 cats. He is a paramedic and I was working in a stone quarry until the snow started. I have a spot in the Fall of 2006 RN course at my "local" community college. I say "local" as it is about 65 miles one way from home, but oh well, it works for me what can I say. I tend to lurk more often then post, but I try to help when I can, even if just to let someone know they are not alone.

Need Help
Well, the best advice I can give is, look into what school you would want to attend and talk to their admissions office. You will probably have to take some of the basics classes (at my school they are non graduate credits) but they give you the basics to advance to the next class. (Example would be a Principles of Math --> Basic Algebra --> Algebra). I am sure every school handles it differently, bu talking to admissions would be a good start. Also, I would suggest if you are wanting to go for your BSN, and need several pre reqs, talk to them and see if there is a community college that you could take some of the classes at to then transfer over. This would be a way to help ease costs if you need non credit courses. Not sure if I helped or not, but there are many helpful people around here that I am sure will pop in. Good Luck,

Read this if you have taken A&P.
all of the above tips are excellent, i did much of the same. printed out anything the instructor put on her website, also went to the supplement link that came with my textbook and printed additional information along with taking the on line practice tests and learning activities. when ever there was a diagram involved i had colored pencils which i would use to draw it into my binder. in class i took notes and referenced pages then that night i would rewrite the notes in one color ink then anything from the pages that seemed important were written in another color ink. also, if i was still having trouble i spoke to the instructor for clarification, taking notes from this meeting and adding them in to my binder under another color ink. personally i prefer to use 3 ring binders for my notebooks, because they allow me the ability to insert diagrams and printouts between the notes i took for references. i also made 3 x 5 flashcards as i went along to study with. as another poster above, i to recorded my notes and played them as i drove or when i was cleaning. lol i will admit though, at times the strangest thought would go through my head - like if i was in an accident the rescuers would wonder about me when they heard what i was listening to! most important of all these tips (mine and others but not the finding a good instructor!) is you need to find a system that works best for you. or else it will just become a larger chore. what works great for some maynot work great for you - but seems we all used the same general methods. good luck - a&p can be tough but if you stay in the game and don't lag behind you can do all right. lagging behind is what i normally see as peoples largest downfall.

Roll call! who got accepted for spring 2006?
i didn't really have the ability after high school either - to many bad choices. but thankfully that has all changed! i saw a doctor and found my head :rotfl: (yeah okay i know bad joke). right now wade picks up most of the bills as i am to stubborn to give up total control! (shhh don't tell him i admit to being stubborn okay). but once the program actually starts i am free to change my situation to however fits in best - even if that means quiting my work.

Roll call! who got accepted for spring 2006?
:) hi!! i have my spot in fall of 2006!!! will be meeting the counselor to get the agenda in march. my name is ann, i am 34 i live with an awesome and very supportive guy, wade, and we have 3 dogs and 2 cats. i had wanted to go back to school for a while but kept edging it off due to money and thinking i was to old to start this. well, wade convinced me i should follow my dream, as he did, and here i am!! he is a paramedic and i am self employed as a stone stacker - makes it easier to work around the pre-reqs. i also am an emt, with a degree in data processing/business education, but jobs of that nature are pretty far and few in this area. i look forward to the coming years of helping and supporting each other in our ups and downs. and hope to make many friends as the time goes by!
