  1. Older Students - 40 +

42 and finishing up my first year in an ADN program. I'll graduate at 43!
  2. POTS

I am still in nursing school so I can't speak from experience. I just didn't want to leave you with no replies because I'm in the process of possibly being diagnosed with POTS right now, and it sucks. I'm sorry you're going through this. What about s...
  3. A Nurse with POTS Disability: A Great Success Story!

Congratulations! I found your story via a google search. I went to the ER Monday with severe tachycardia (202 at it's peak). I've had tachycardia virtually every time I've stood up since Monday. I'm in the midst of all the testing, but so far POTS is...
  4. Good for you! There is so much to learn from working in a nursing home ?
  5. Where have you been applying for CNA jobs? If you don't have experience, it might be hard to get a CNA job at a hospital. I would be very surprised if you wouldn't get hired at a SNF or an assisted living facility. Both will give you a lot of experie...
  6. Macbook Air or Macbook Pro for Nursing School?

My $1300 MacBook Pro that I bought 5+ years ago still works as well today as it did the day I bought it. Well worth the extra expense. It's the 13" and I love that it is small enough to carry around with me - since I start nursing school in September
  7. 12 and 1/2 hours with only 30 minutes for lunch

In the places I've worked it all depends on staffing. When we are fully staffed I take my breaks. When we are understaffed I take my breaks if possible, but the safety of the residents comes first. I've taken breaks and been pulled off them for falls...
  8. Advice and honest thoughts about Nursing school needed.

I wanted to piggy back on the post about working in home care to gain those CNA skills (which is a good idea). As someone who started in home care and then switched to LTC I wanted to share some experience. When I started in home care they paid for m...
  9. How old were you when you started nursing school?

    I was accepted to my nursing program yesterday! I'm 41. I'll be 43 when I graduate ?
  10. Hard of hearing Pre-nursing student

If you are willing to make me a pair I would gladly pay for your time too!
  11. Hard of hearing Pre-nursing student

Just knowing the exist is a huge help! I'll call around to some other audiologists in my area and see what I can find. Thank you for bringing these to my attention!
  12. Hard of hearing Pre-nursing student

Hi Emily, I have been searching high and low for ear pieces that will work with hearing aids. If it's not too much of an inconvenience, could you let me know the brand of yours and where I might find them? My audiologist doesn't have any idea where t...
  13. Assisted Living med aides

I am starting nursing school next year and I'm currently a Med Aid and Personal Care Aid at an ALF. About half our staff really care and make sure we provide all care tasks to our residents on each shift. The other half either call out frequently, do...
  14. What's the funniest most unusual baby name?

The strangest I've ever come across was recently shared by a friend. Her daughter is in class with a girl named Metallica. Metallica's siblings are named Nutella and Lamborghini. Growing up a lot of kids in my town used to prank call a man in the pho...
  15. Hard of hearing Pre-nursing student

How can I get a pair of these?
  16. Olympic College 2017 applicants

Anyone here applying to ADN program next spring at Olympic College? I'm finishing my pre-reqs winter term and looking for other pre-nursing students hoping to be in the 2017 cohort. It might be nice to make some connections now and start supporting e...
  17. Dyslexic student wanting to pursue Nursing? Should I?

I agree with the others and also recommend you check out Irlen — The Official Irlen International Website, Colored Lenses, Colored Overlays, Diagnosticians, Screeners. Irlen glasses help me and my daughter with out dyslexia symptoms.
  18. Spring 2017 Chat

What a great thread! We do a quarter schedule here, so I've been back for winter term since Jan. 3rd. Last term was brutal commuting to A&PI 5 days/week, English 101 online, working 30-40 hours/week and juggling 4 kids. So, this term I'm taking A...
  19. Taking my first science class

The key to A&P is showing up to all lectures and labs and studying enough hours. My first A&P I had WAY too much on my plate and still barely pulled a B+. The material isn't overly complicated, but there is a LOT of it. Plan to devote 3 hours...
  20. Pertussis Vaccine?

The hospital I volunteer with accepts titers. The whole point is to have a high enough titer count to be immune to the illness, not matter if it was from the vaccine or exposure. I had the chicken pox, so I opted for a titer check and was able to ski...
  21. Congratulations!!
  22. Mom of 2 with a GED. Is nursing school possible?

I had a very subpar 9th grade public education when I got my GED. I did really well in my first college career. Now at age 39 I'm doing really well in my second college career. I have two pre-reqs left and going strong. I have 4 kids and a job. Forma...
  23. What classes are you taking? Fall 2016

My grades were posted last night and I got a 4.0 in English and a 3.4 in A&P! I know I could have got a 4.0 in A&P, but considering I was working 30-40 hours per week and have 4 kids, I am SO happy with my grades. The best part is they are hi...
  24. Olympic College 2017 applicants

I'm attending OC right now, you? I've decided to not take my last two pre-reqs together since I am working. I want to do well in BIO 241 and 260! I'm still applying so I get my extra point, but without the 3 points for micro I'm sure I'll be in the 2...
  25. does pre-req. counts as first two years of BSN?

Pre-reqs take as long as they take and vary by program. Then a regular ADN program is 2 years, full time. Once you have your RN, then it's 2 more full-time school years for the BSN. Hope that helps.
