So I've been a nurse for a year now. I've been on a medical surgical floor but I now have the opportunity to transfer to the ER. I shadowed a few weeks ago and love it. I didn't think the ER would be for me but the pace of it and the excitement was a rush. I also want to work down there because I am not growing on the floor I'm at anymore, not challenging at all.. and I want the chance to grow and learn all the things! I submitted my application. I wanted to ask anyone for advice for a new ER nurse.. and what anyone would suggest to maybe look up and study? Or tips on how to stay calm? Confidence, etc?

Fellow nursing students, I wanted to see if any of you had any helpful tips and suggestions on what helped you with being successful in patho. This will be my second semester in my nursing program. The cohort above us had a really rough go with patho last semester and I wanted to know if there is anything that is beneficial to know for the class? I finished Pharmacology last semester and I found concept mapping and practice questions is what helped the most. Our program (along with a lot of yours I assume as well) uses application questions on exams.

I started off my pharm class by using flash cards and strictly trying to memorize. I really knew the material but I ended up bombing my first exam because I didn't know how to apply the information. What helped me was concept mapping each class of drugs. If you have a white board it'll help a ton. I also tried to do as many practice questions as I could to help me apply the drugs to as many scenarios as I could. Ended up getting a B in the class after changing my study routine.

I worked at the financial aid department at my school for about 2 years. Are you sure there is a deadline to turn it in? I highly recommend talking with the department at your school because they're basically the only ones that can help you. It takes ages to even speak with someone at the IRS. If you speak with your financial aid office and get a hold of the director you have a good chance they'll make an exception.

All programs are different.. but there's a really good chance you're going to need a laptop/computer for a portion of work. With my program, I need it to do clinical paperwork with our specific layouts. I also have to use it with Lockdown Browser to take quizzes/tests. Besides that though, I purchased an iPad Pro with the apple pencil before I started 7 months ago and it was the best purchase I ever made for school. It's elevated my note taking to another level. I am so organized and ALWAYS have all of my notes on me. I can even access them on my phone when I'm in a waiting room, etc. I have all of my ebooks on there as well and it's amazing because I can drag parts of my readings straight into the notes. I highly recommend!

Yeah I agree. I am not willing to spend another $500+ on a windows laptop that slows down within 6 months. The one I have now is ridiculous and its specifically from using my nursing school programs.

This is exactly what I do for my notes and love it. My clinical stuff and etc just can't be done with what I have right now, unfortunately. Very frustrating because I spent a pretty penny on the Lenovo. But I'm gonna see about what I can do before spending extra on the Mac. Thank you for the feedback! The extra monitor is a genius idea especially for clinical paperwork.

I've always been a PC person, too. I'm going into my 2nd semester in the program and have ran into so many issues with the homework and book sites crashing and taking 5 minutes to load the next page. I'm going to do what Glucagon said and reinstall the OS and see if it helps. But I already cleared out the laptop and stripped it of old files

I'm not sure what the cut off was for fall 2017. I do know that advisors and instructors at TMCC were saying that the pool of applicants for the application was extremely large and it was a competitive one.

I've had a Lenovo PC for about 3 years now and I don't think it's going to last much longer. It has significantly slowed down and takes 30 minutes to start up. I've been looking into Macs and I wanted to see if any of you have advice on which model would be best for school? The Pro does have a faster hardware but will the Air do the job just as well? I need it for online class work, care plans, paper work, ebooks and homework assigned through book sites.

I can definitely relate- my binders for my pre-nursing classes were reams full. I have to have every powerpoint printed out in order. So I'm seeing where annotating electronically will take me. If I unfortunately don't like it, I still have a good device for ebooks and homework

Yeah I actually just purchased the iPad and have about a month until the program starts. I'm planning on playing around with it to get used to writing on it. I also love how i can pull images and insert them in my notes to have actual book/video examples right there without having to look in 3 different places to reference.

Thanks for the feedback! Is studying from it just as effective as a notebook or is it distracting? My only fear is that it'll for some reason make me less susceptible to the information. I know it sounds like an exaggerated worry, but i'm just hoping I'll be able to study the notes from the screen equally to flipping through a binder.

Yeah it seems like it will be super great to take notes with. I just got myself a keyboard for it as well. I think it'll keep me so organized and productive. I don't know how the ebooks are yet so I really hope it works on it. Either way I have hard copy books just incase

Wow.. that seems like they're not giving us a lot of time to go out and get all of it. Only less than a week from orientation to the first day jeez
