Is the CEO, board members, and security searched as well? If it is union, I believe a strike is in order for the unwarranted searches. It is one thing to search a person they know is stealing, it is a totally different story to search every one.

Pain killer seekers clog up the waiting rooms, and forces those who truly need care to wait longer for treatment. In stead of being given pain killers they should be getting psych consults. When they ask for a certain pain killer, and you tell them the hospital ran out of it but you got plenty of ibuprofen, they usually get up and leave pissed off. I had a man once claiming his leg hurt so bad, the pain was a 10, he couldn't even walk on his leg. I told him he could have ibuprofen, and it would be some time for a doctor to view his charts before he would even be considered for the drug he requested. After I told him that, he was able to walk on the leg that hurt so bad and then told me he would just go to the other hospital in town. That other hospital was informed about his planed visit. I have even requested psych consults for patients who's pain was so bad they could not get out of bed, nothing medically could explain the pain. After they were informed a psych consult was requested, they were healed, able to get out of bed and no longer in pain. Another patient that claimed he could not get out of bed and would pee all over the bed, was informed that the doctor ordered a Foley catheter to help with the incontinence, that was the fastest I had ever seen a person run out of the hospital still in a gown.

Every job I have ever worked at and asked by a co-worker how much money I made, I would tell them I made $5-$10 below the starting wage even though I was making $5-$10 more then the starting wage. In stead of getting hate, I would be pitied and offered extra help because my co-workers felt guilt I was making far less then them. If you feel the need to talk about how much you make, always tell them you make far less than the starting wage.

If you truly did not take out that drug, I suggest you contact a personal injury lawyer who specializes in labor/working. Lawyers do not charge for consultations so I suggest you report the one who charged you $100 to the bar association. If the lawyers you contact are demanding money upfront they are scamming you. The personal injury lawyer will take your case for free, if you lose you pay nothing, if you win the lawyer takes 20-30% from the settlement. If what you are saying is true we are not taking about peanuts, we are talking five figure settlement.

If you read a lot of the comments on the threads on this website, a lot of nurses seem to have bad attitudes, and some of the comments make me think they are lazy and resentful. I personally would not want to be a patient of some of the nurses who comment on this website. With that said there are also a lot of nurses who comment on this website who are overly compassionate about patient care and generally seem to love their jobs even though they have to deal with rude, violent, and dangerous patients.

Is your friend going to pay for you to retake your classes when you fail, because you helped her instead of studying for your own finales? Are your friends and or family going to pay for you to retake the classes when you fail because they guilt you into skipping your study time to help this girl? Your friend has options like you do, to sign up for study groups. You have no reason to feel guilty, your friend choose not to pay attention in class, which her grades are clearly reflecting. You need to stay focused on studying for your finals, at the end of the day you will be paying the price financially and grade wise if you do not study and stay focused.

Try using a different web browser, I like to use crome but some times certain state web pages like the (county clerk of deeds) do not work well with crome or fire fox and do not open fully, but when I use internet explorer the web pages work fine as long as my adobe and java is up to date.

Is it really worth having a job at that place if you have to deal with his behavior? You could always buy yourself a really nice and shiny engagement ring, when he asks who bought it for you, tell him your fiance who happens to work in law enforcement. That might scare him straight.

You go to the red cross to be a babysitter, you go to college to be a RN. A $3 an hour pay difference does not fairly pay you for your training and skills unless your employer paid for your training and even then you would only work for lower wages for a contracted amount of time. Some of the school nurses in my state make $30-$45/hr and depending on what city the job may even come with a state pension and retirement benefits. The cashiers that work in my town hall make $18 an hour and gets benefits.

Do you at least get paid holiday, paid sick days, and paid vacation? If you don't get any of those benefits you are overly being taken advantage of, fast food workers get all these benefits and they even get group insurance. A fast food workers health insurance isn't any thing to brag about but at least they get some kind of discounted health insurance.

Also in my state(new hampshire) it is illegal to video another persons genitals and or breasts in the their private dwelling(home), so a parent recording in the patients bedroom would be illegal if their genitals and or breasts were exposed in that bedroom as part of the patients care. How much do you get paid per hour to be a private duty nurse? Is it safe to assume you make at least $30/hr and get benefits. Babysitters get paid $7.50 per hour, this is for complete care including diaper changes. What is the point of having a private duty nurse if the parents are going to do every thing the nurse is suppose to do while the nurse sits around watching? The parents go to work so that they can keep the insurance which pays you to come take care of the child. If I was making $30 an hour and got benefits I would not care what the parents was or was not doing while I was working my shift, and frankly it would be non of my business what the parents were doing unless they were harming my patient.

They can not fire you nor retaliate against you, you are protected by law, it's called the whistleblower act.

I'm not asking any one you criticize any one, just wondering if it is appropriate for a nurse to question a doctors orders. I can see at first maybe she may of assumed that the doctor was not aware that I was on a opiate pain killer, but once I told the nurse that I had informed the doctor that should of been the end off it. If the nurse felt I lied to her about speaking to the doctor she should of called the doctor or the doctors office. I personally felt the doctor should of informed the nurse that I was already on opiates and the pain medication was for break thru pain. I kinda felt like the nurse either did no believe that I had informed the doctor of the opiates that I was already on, or the nurse lost a loved one to opiate addiction. I personally felt that it was, she lost a loved one from opiate addiction. The nurse was pushing the "you may over dose" a little to hard. What I saw in the nurse is what I have seen in other people recently, they lost a loved one to opiate addiction so they lash out at any one on opiates whether they are on opiates for a medical need or not. These people who lose loved ones to opiates, do not think rationally they want the use of opiates banned for every one. A month prior to the surgery there was this big news story that was released in my state about opiate abuse, the media is calling it the "heroin epidemic". Even our governor has jumped on the "heroin epidemic" band wagon because she has her eye on a seat for congress. The governor's first statements on the "heroin epidemic" was about how prescription fentanyl should out right be banned in the state because it is being mixed with heroin. What the governor failed to tell the public is that the fentanyl being mixed with heroin is synthetic fentanyl mostly made in Mexico. I absolutely believe there is a direct correlation between prescription opiates and the "heroin epidemic". I don't believe this "heroin epidemic" began from legit opiate prescriptions, I believe it arose from the "pill mills" and there closures. The Feds came in and closed all these "pill mills", you have all these people addicted to opiate pain killers who no longer have access to them so they turn to heroin. The heroin suppliers can't meet supply and demand so they start mixing fentanyl into the heroin, some where down the supply line they forget to mention or willfully neglect to mention fentanyl is mixed with the product. The users get heroin not knowing it is mixed with fentanyl and 100 time more stronger than the last batch and people start over dosing.

I recently had an exploratory surgery preformed. Prior to the surgery I informed the doctor that I was on pain mediation and in pain management, I am on 15mg of oxycodone 4 times a day for severe pain. The doctor said she would prescribe a pain killer for break thru pain. After the surgery I was brought to ICU, my ICU nurse was extremely nice to me and did leave my side the entire time I was in the ICU. I was then brought to the post operative room, there were no clocks in the room. I found it quite disorienting not being able to tell the time. I asked the nurse who was assigned to me what time it was and she out right refused to tell me what time it was. Prior to being discharged the nurse brought the prescription that the doctor had prescribed for break thru pain and hands it to my mother. My mother who was going to drive me home because I was given anesthesia says " aren't you already on pain medication?". The nurse then snatches the prescription from my mothers hands, and say "I guess you don't need this, so I will just shred this for you". I tell the nurse that the doctor was fully aware that I am already on a pain medication, and that the prescription was for break thru pain. As I say break thru pain the nurse laughs as if there is no such thing as break thru pain. The nurse then try's to tell me that I could over dose taking this medication while already on a pain medication and that I really should not have been given a prescription for pain. I then ask the nurse if she shreds the prescription, are you going to pay for my return visit to the ED if I have beak thru pain that I can not deal with later that night or the next day. The nurse then angrily hands the prescription to my mother and storms off in a pissed off mood. The prescription was for 20 percoset 5mg/325mg. Also I did have break thru pain later that night and several days afterwards. I later received a survey in the mail for that surgery, in the comment section I wrote how there was no clocks in the room and the nurses refusal to tell me the time and how I found that quite disorienting. I also wrote in the comment section about how the nurse tried to shred my pain prescription and when I told her it was for break thru pain she laughed at me. I asked that she be trained in pain management so that other patients did not have to go thru what I had to. Was the nurses behavior inappropriate or did I over react?

On one occasion in the emergency room, I witnessed a drunk patient in a neck brace who was yelling and screaming at the nurse's. The nurse's were extremely nice to the patient, even though the patient was not very nice to the nurse's. The patient told the nurse's he had to pee, one nurse told him he would have to use a hand urinal and could not get up because he had a head injury. The nurse even offered to hold the urinal for him even though the patient was more than capable of doing it him self. The patient gets up, pee's a little bit in the urinal and then proceeds to pee all over the floor. The patient then throws the half full urinal at the nurse and then starts walking towards the nurse with a closed fist, he looked like he was going to hit her, at this point I was getting ready to pull the IV from my arm and then start beating the guy. Luckily for his sake security showed up, I would not have been as coddling as security was.

I was thinking more along the lines like maybe you did some thing for a patient who was capable of doing it them self's and then the patient felt you may be their personal servant. Or you did some thing for a patient and they did not appreciate your kindness things like that.

What is some thing nice you have done for a patient, and then later came to regret? Why did you later regret doing some thing nice for the patient?

I can see after surgery why food and drink is offered, but in the ER I am a little baffled by it. I only ask this question because I recently saw a blog written by a nurse where the nurse claims she was asked for a diet soda. The nurse compared the request with working in fast food, the nurse thought the patient was clearly confused and must of thought they were in a restaurant. I can see where the patients confusion may of came from, if the patient was offered soda in another emergency department. The time I was offered soda I remember their was a patient in the room next to me, the patient asked for a soda and the nurse told him no but he could have water. I suppose the patient next to me could of had a restriction of clear liquids only.

Every time I have had a surgical procedure and was under Anesthesia I am always offered some thing to drink and eat after the surgery. I am usually offered a muffin or toast and water or soda. Also on several occasions while in the ER I have been offered soda. Are the nurses giving me special treatment because I don't complain and don't bother them with the call bell?
