ordered to give roxanol with resp. of 5
My question here is... was he able to eat, and she didnt want him fed? I would have a serious problem with someone who ate with assist, and his wife getting orders to make him NPO. Is she trying to starve this poor man to speed up the dying process? Stacy

Nicknames your pt's give you
I had a resident that used to call me biggen. I'm 6'2 and overweight. Never could remember my name, but always knew if he called for biggen and I was working, that I was coming to help him.

physician substitute
IBR is who I work for. I stay until the needle is out of my last donors arm. Last few nights I Have been out by 6:15. The latest I've ever stayed was like... 7:30ish. And you would'nt be there all day, hopefully you would have another PS or two to share the load with.

Its plasma... It's VERY chaotic... but organized if you watch it for a bit... lol.. Like the tango! We have a 6 week training program, it covers our SOPs, and hands on physicals... I had a blast. I am an LPN and making only a tad less then new RNs start at where you are. If I wanted to make that kind of money, I would normally have to work LTN. Which is where the money is for LPNs. The company I work for puts money into their staff, and their training. We have a quality program that goes above and beyond what the FDA requires of plasma centers. Mind if I ask what Company you were looking at?

physician substitute
Actually, I am a Phys Sub. I dont work at a blood bank.. Its a plasma Center. Its actually a pretty cool job. Our physicals consist of a brief med hx. quick pe.. lungs, heart, we check for signs of iv drug use/ intranasal use... then we give them the ins and outs of the pheresis procedure... and get them to sign consents. We also question about HIV /HCV/ HBV/ CJD risk. I work under a doctor, and have to be re-evaluated in my position yearly. If I may ask, did you have an interview there? I had never done plasma before, mainly LTC and MD offices, but it was diffrent, and the money was good... so I tried it... Been there 7 months now, and I can honestly say I've learned quite a bit. Hope I was able to answer your question.. feel free to PM with with any more. Stace

Don't put that in your nose!!
Its sad, I'm nearly 32 years old, and thinking to myself... I wonder if the olives I have in the fridge would fit! My sister when she was younger did peas, pencil erasers, and Tic Tacs. Those always fit so nicley!

Has anyone ever assisted in a roadside emergency?
I personally have stoped several times over the years. as recently as last weekend. I did EMS before moving south, and when I get to a victim, Its "i'm Stacy, and I know first aid. Would you like me to help you?" I figure what is unsaid wont get me sued. Our state has nurse license plates, and I wont get one, tho I"d like too.. but I do carry gloves and CPR mask should the need arise.

Scrubs for Short People!
Sassy Scrubs has custom scrubs. I have a hard time, being 6'2 and "fat" as one poster called it.. I like their scrubs, wear and wash well... bit pricey... but worth it if they fit well...

Where are all you SC nurses?
Hi y'all, Greenville here..... Well, Pelzer actually... But try to find anyone who knows where it is. Here 11 years now by way of NJ. Have been working in LTC and MD offices pretty much since I got here. Went to school in NJ so have no clue about nursing schools here. Have one friend who did USCs ADN program, and one who did Gville Tech. Me... I cant stand the thought of classrooms, and have seriously considered the Excelisor program. Has anyone here done it, or thinking about doing it? Anyway, Married, one fur kid named Marty... TTFN Stace:nurse:

LPN Program at SCTI
I never had any desire to do the nursing program at RVCC. SCTI just seemed to be a good fit. Never would have made it through without Mrs. Stitley kicking my butt all the way. They had some really awesome instructors when i was there. They are truly a group of wonderful, caring and compassionate nurses and tremendous educators. Good luck with the rest of your time at SCTI!
