  1. Hi- I went through the same thing. I work in LTC, and was put on 3-11 shift. I'm a new grad and a newlywed. I got so unhappy, and was just feeling stuck. I opted to go on my husband's insurance and work per diem at my old facility and two others. I'm going to have to drop one, cause there is plenty of work . Get your resume out there girl! It's a miracle if we find our ideal fit right away. I was nervous about "job-hopping", but it has rewarded me. Best of luck to you!
  2. Yes! Wonderfully worded!
  3. as a former LNA, I can tell you they fake 'em. Is there an LNA there that you could delegate the task to?
  4. Yes! I learned so much about meds, know your calculations, know when certain meds should be given, i.e. ac,pc,hs, s/s og dig toxicity. You'll be fine enjoy the experience and find a mentor at your facility. Best Of Luck!
  5. My prayers will include you and your son. Teenagers feel and percieve things so intensely, it's scary. I remember being his age, and I wouldn't trade being 39 for my teen years again except to do things differently. Hang in there. I'm so sorry for the way the ER doc treated you:crying2: . The last thing we need in horrible crisis is judgemental people who are supposed to HELP you and your son.GBY..Kim
  6. OmiGOD!! I laughed so hard I scared my poor cat! Keep 'em coming, this thread is hilarious!!

I'm crying right now, reading all the wonderful messages you all have left myself and Keith. It's so hard. My heart goes out to you and the other posters who have shared their stories of loss. My biggest hope is that we all will be posting pictures of our beautiful babies on this site someday. May God bless you all and Happy, Healthy New Year:icon_hug:
  8. Vistorol, Iron, and anything caustic to sc tissue.
  9. I work in geriatrics, so I mostly use ventrogluteal. It' difficult to position an elderly and, possibly demented patient. I just find the best muscle pad that I can, since MOST of my pts are cachexic. Hope that helps:)

Hi Ya'll. I found out 2 weeks ago that my baby had a 7 mm nuchal fold and a huge omphocele:o . We went to Dartmouth in Hanover and they gave us no hope. I also had placenta previa, so the doctor wanted me to terninate quickly to avoid a c-section later on. We wanted this baby so badly. I'm heartbroken. Please keep us in your prayers, we'll try again in a couple months. Love to all, Kim
  11. Oh That is reprehensible! I can't believe that a NURSE would give Rochephin w/out Lido:madface: Shame!
  12. [/url] :uhoh21: ROCHEPHIN! OWWWCH! Plus I once tasted crushed aceteminophen w/ applesauce to se if it did the trick
  13. This my be TMI, but I've used it to shave "down south", and it BURNS!!
  14. What I tell myself is."Christmas is all day-24 hours, and my shift is 8 hours." That helps. The double-time pay, and sharing the holiday with people who really need and appreciate me also helps. At most places, they alternate holidays annually. I don't know what to advise you about Mom. Sometimes those we love are impossible. :uhoh21: Have a wonderful holiday season!
  15. Hey Gianna- Welcome to allnurses . I know this is a scary time in your life, and I know first hand what it's like to be addicted. My hope is that you begin going to twelve step meetings everday. Keep an open mind and just listen. If you can learn about your addiction, begin recovery, and start to change it will help you immensely. We are not BAD people, we are sick people.I know you are ashamed and very scared. Also, it's not easy to stop using, and if you have stopped using, meetings and counseling will help you stay stopped. If you haven't stopped using, please seek help to do so. I just buried a 38 year old friend who was an RN and a mother of two. She couldn't stop, and now her kids have no Mom. If you embark on your recovery, and work hard at it, this situation will unfold for the better. My life is nothing short of a miracle, and at one time, I felt the best way out would be death. Hang in there, and know you are NOT ALONE:icon_hug:

Used alone they can be drying. That's why I dip them in ice water. They work well for the purpose of giving some "sips" to one who can't handle drinking any liquid w/out aspirating. Like I said in my previous post, toothettes(the stick w/the sponge at the end) DO work well when moistened for oral care:) .

"Toothettes" are the recommended method for oral care, and they do work well. When I have a patient who is actively dying (or close) I get a cup of ice water, and some lemon-glycerine swabs, and dip the swabs in the water. The patient is usually so thirsty, but can't handle small sips, even of thickened liquids. The swabs work wonderfully for this purpose..hope this helps!
  18. Thank You. Are you graduating soon? Congratulations to you also ! How did you like your maternity clinical? That's a tough one for the guys, but I'm sure you did fine. I had ONE day in L&D, and got to see a baby boy get born. Absolutely the most wonderful experience in my whole time in school. Good luck to you and thanks again!
  19. Five weeks! I'm over the moon! My husband is so happy! A LOT of things are gonna change. Thank God I have 8 or so months to get used to this. Thank you all!
  20. I just got my LPN, got married, found a great new job, and now i'm pregnant! Anyone else experience this? Feedback will be so appreciated:)
  21. I was a horrible student in high school. Somehow your ambition picks up when you have to PAY for school.:uhoh21: Yes, there are some sad things about nursing, but at the end of the day, if you can walk away and know you've made a positive difference in at least one person's life, then it is worth it! BTW, I still have my "lucky scrubs" from right before I got my LNA:) Best of luck to you
  22. Hello and welcome! Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A Guide to Planning Care ISBN-0-323-02551-x This book saved me from a lot of grief! Care Planning is tough, and I lost a lot of sleep over them. My instructors were brutal(Thank God for them). This book helped immensely. Good luck
  23. Hi - Yes, I DID work with several residents with Huntington's Chorea as an LNA. It was a heartbreaker, but was gratifying all the same. There are many websites you can access to explore the disease and its repurcussions further. It's a cruel disease and my heart goes out to you. I really feel that you were meant to find out this information. I know it's scary, but a known enemy is better than an unknown enemy, and it sounds to me that so far, you are asymptomatic. You may have escaped it. It's not an easy decision re: getting tested, and you are in my prayers:wink2: Please keep us posted.:icon_hug:
  24. Oh Urk! Ew, Yuck, ! (but strangely funny) We are a jaded lot, aren't we? http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb066&pp=ZRXXXXXXXXUS
  25. Ohhh nooo! too funny!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
