Can your 6 year old son come and visit you while you're going to nursing school in Texas? You're really the only one who can decide what is best, but I can see why it is so hard for you. *hugs* Maybe sit down and make a list of pros and cons. If you can't live with the ex and your son, is there an alternative way of getting to see him and spend time with him while you better yourself for the betterment of your family? Good luck!

It is my understanding that UBC offers less clinical experience than community colleges. I hate the stigma that high school counselors put on community colleges - they act as if university is the only option, and it is not. I'm a Kwantlen student, and have had a very positive experience so far. I would recommend it! At Kwantlen, you start clinical in second semester. I understand that BCIT starts you in first semester (a little early in my opinion). Someone told me that at UBC you don't start clinical until your third year (which would make sense if you do 2 years of general + prereqs. first). Seems like you'd get a whole lot less hands on experience at UBC if that is the case. Anyone know any different?

I'm starting the RN program at Kwantlen University College in British Columbia this September. Yay! I grew up in Ontario, I'm from Ajax. Moved out here 5 years ago.

This thread is funny (and old!). I couldn't imagine going back to granny panties...hopefully my school will not have any restrictions like that. Thongs are my friends. Since when can people tell you what kind of underwear to wear!? Funny :)

I'm going to continue working until probably a week or two before school starts. Now my main focus is getting bills paid off, trading in my shiney new car for an older, more economical one, and saving money. Fun stuff like that :) I'm also very eager to buy stuff for school. I've been out of school for almost 5 years now, so I'm excited to go back!

Bc is wonderful!! I moved here 4.5 years ago from Ontario, and I absolutely LOVE it! So much to see and do, everything an outdoorsy person would enjoy, and it's all so close by! The rain is really not as bad as I thought it would be, and I have just gotten used to getting a little wet. Walking in the rain can be kinda nice! People here golf in the rain I have no specific suggestions for you, just wanted to add my 2 cents! Good luck with your move!

Thanks guys! It still really hasn't sunk in. I've been out of school for almost 5 years now, and have been working at my job for 4.5 of those years. Thinking about leaving a full-time job at a great company is scary, but I'm just sooooo excited to go back to school! I took a 3-year Industrial Microbiology course and graduated with honours, so I think that might have helped me get in.

I applied to two schools for fall 2006. Have heard back from one and I'm IN! WOOHOO!! They have 32 seats available, so I feel pretty darn lucky. This was my first try too! Other school has 64 seats, and I'm not sure when I'll hear from them. I'm going to email and find out. I have to pay a $300 fee to hold my seat by March 10, so looks like I'll be paying that regardless, then if I get in to the other school too, I'll have a tough decision on my hands. The other school is my first choice.

Wahoo!!! Totally unexpected, here's the story. I have applied to two school - Kwantlen and Douglas. Haven't heard a thing from Kwantlen since my initial application (form + transcripts submitted only) in November, so was beginning to lose hope. Plus a good friend said it took her 3 years to get into nursing there. So I get a letter in the mail from Kwantlen, and the first thing out of my mouth was, "it's about time they sent me something!". Shockingly enough, it was a conditional acceptance for September '06!!!!! YAY!!! All I have to do is submit a criminal record check, immunization record, and CPR level C and I'm IN NURSING SCHOOL!! *happy dance happy dance* I'm sooooo excited. Now for the scary part though - how and when do I tell my boss? Hooray :) Now I'm waiting to hear from Douglas. What will I do if I get in for both? Exciting!!
