  1. I'm going to second semester. We had jumpstart like 2- weeks before hand. Semi like kind of... Seriously it confused most of us and didn't get us prepared at all. But orientation is mandatory jumpstart is not Biggest piece of advice--- NEVER slack. Do readings everyday minimum
  2. Good luck all!! It's no walk in the park!! Advice-- jumpstart is semi a waste of time most of us left half way through
  3. I guess I'm super nervous for MedSurg one
  4. Faada replied to Zooey72's topic in General Students
Starting rate for new grad on the east coast of Florida is about 34k if you get 40 hours a week full time but full time is considered 36 hours (three 12hr shifts) which only makes it about 31k.. So not that far off
  5. I have off for the summer (job is not an option because it will mess with my grant); I just completed first semester (of four) and we have off during summers. I don't go back til mid/end of August.. They gave us a summer reading list for next semester... I've heard a lot of negative things about reading ahead... (That it's a waste of time, it doesn't help, professors always change the pages) I want to get ahead, I barely skidded through one of my classes first semester and I don't like that feeling.. Any advice??? Also I did amazing well the first 6-8 week (out of 15) but then started to dwindle, got hard to focus to study, etc... Any pick me up advice so that doesn't happen next semester??
  6. So when did y'all start using it (my program is a total of 4 semesters)
  7. What about non skill stuff just info
  8. Also tips on focusing.... Like when anxiety gets high and you can't Focus on studying what do you do
  9. So within the first week. We did over 200 pages and vital signs (all manual). I am overwhelmed , check offs for vital signs and correct entering/exiting a room is already next week plus an exam the following (plus next week we have another 300-400 pages and more skills to be learned. My main problem is how to study. I'm good with studying the facts but I don't really understand how to study when it comes to application of this study if that makes sense... Any tips???
  10. Daytona state nursing class of December 2017
  11. Yes there is a Daytona fb for RN graduating in Dec 2017 (so for all of us starting at DSC this spring)
  12. Hello everyone and thanks for answering another one of my questions! I Appreciate it & you! I've been looking to get a few NCLEX RN books to start going through as I'm in nursing school (I will be beginning nursing school in a week, so I'm still in the beginning) has the test changed much? If I get a review book from 2010 is it still OK to study from that or do I have to get the newest addition from 2015/2016?
  13. Many of us are starting in January so I'm going to give a bump!
  14. That's true, LEO where on the "top" list as well. I am also married to one! But that's a good point about the area/specialties and what they have to deal with. Once again I was just curious on everyone's talk of the topic I'm not saying this is fact or anything it came up and I was curious of y'alls take on it. Here is one of the many articles I was browsing through, I have no clue about all the mumbo jumbo I just googled and found this one (not saying it's 100% no holes legit I didn't analyze it)
  15. When I looked it up I think I typed nurse divorce rate, it was that 20-30 ( depending on what source you read) of nurses get a divorce. I was just curious of other people's thoughts on the matter
  16. So this came to my attention after my husband has brought it up after hearing it from a few people, that nurses have a high divorce rate... So I went to look it up and nurses do rank around 30% and are usually on the top "whatever" divorce list.... I don't know why but I found it extremely interesting and absurd (why absurd I don't know!) Just curious to see your takes on it?
  17. I just finished mine online and it was great because we could work ahead pretty much the entire course. So I got done 6 weeks early and aced the class!
  18. You will! Just make sure you review what you did the worst on and focus on that but don't forget to review everything else!! Good luck!
  19. Interesting to read! I also am not religious, not sure if I would call myself atheist... My husband calls us that (to be honest I don't know all the facts behind it maybe I should look that up!) but it was great to read what you wrote I'm guessing I will have some of the same dilemmas when I start working!
  20. I am not sure of the hours you work and your life busyness but could you possibly either work a day or two a week hands on either in the hospital or doctors office just so you don't lose that experience and you can still put it on your resume so it's more current. Or do you have time and can financially do the MSN program, it may open more doors up for you in the hospital or teaching at a higher level and you can do a lot of the programs online while you're still working so that if it does close you have a back up and if it doesn't you still have more possibilities. I think either way there's always a chance that you could get laid off or in your situation the school may close I think you should have your back ups. If I were you I would personally either try to obtain my MSN (more than likely online while I'm working) that way if your school doesn't close you still have options in the future and if it does close you might have an open door more to the hospital or to teach at a higher level
  21. Great job Macdeddy05 If I may ask what exactly did you do to prep? How long did you study for?
  22. I think it seems easier the second time. I failed by one question in math the first time, but I didn't study. I brushed up my math and aced it but then lacked the others but still passed. For me I went 2 hours early and just read my notes and did a five minute walk listening to a song and clearing my head before hand to de stress. ( just noticed this is for NJ I did mine for FL) but still!!

  24. I wouldn't, if anything get a cheapy ap book or review your notes. When I did ap 2 they recovered things just in case your prior ap 1 instructor didn't.
