HHC's 11-New York City Hospital System Facing $1.8 Billion Deficit
The city's flailing public hospitals are more than $6 billion short on cash through 2020 — and Mayor de Blasio's rescue plan is no sure thing to save them, an official budget watchdog found. An Independent Budget Office report found the massive $6.1 billion shortfall exists for Health and Hospitals even after the city upped its spending on the agency by $558 million in 2016 alone — to a total of $2.4 billion.http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/new-york-city-hospitals-facing-6b-shortfall-2020-article-1.2695168

New grad rn job search!
Go West young man ( except San Francisco, LA, San Diego). The Big Apple is saturated and flooded with experienced nurses. It will cost hospitals approximately $60,000 just to train new grads. It is purely Economic 101- demand and supply story. Best of luck to you. IMHO.

What's up with all the 'failed NCLEX' posts?
NCSBN raised the passing standard from -0.21 LOGIT to -0.16 LOGIT ( effective April 2010) to 0.00 LOGIT ( effective April 2012 ). On Dec 9, 2015 meeting, NCSBN decided to uphold the current level of 0.00 LOGIT and will remain in effect until March 31, 2019.

Is it me (with no experience) or the NYC job market still sucks?
Jacqueline Berrien, a civil rights lawyer who was President Obama's chairwoman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, died on Monday (Nov. 9, 2015 ) in Baltimore. She was 53. Will the workplace be more inclusive and discrimination less common when my children, my godchildren, or my nieces and nephews enter it?†she asked in an interview with The Washington Post in 2011. " No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." - Nelson Mandela

Is it me (with no experience) or the NYC job market still sucks?
For more info: Sep 5 by JustBeachyNurse Quote from universalnurse My agent filed EB3 for me in August, and I just got a receipt number from USCIS, there is a date showed on the paper, just wondering is that my priority date? and how long does it take to get a final interview after that? Yes. If you were born in the Philippines it's around a 11 year 3 month wait.due to retrogression. JustBeachyNurse has been a member since Aug '10 - from 'East Coast, USA'. The November 2015 EB3 employment-based Visa Bulletin for Philippine nurses is out. The waiting time is exactly 8 years & 4 months & 17 days. No HR Directors with their rational mind will have the patience to sponsor Philippine nurses when there are abundant qualified local nurses in the labor market.

To achieveanything- May I know which facility of HHC you are referring to ? I have many friends who happen to know one of the HR Directors of HHC and she can call him/her to verify the real story behind what you witnessed ?

Nursing in USA or Philippines?
They said nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes. I'm 100 percent certain also that California BON will not grant you ATT if you obtained your BSN in the Philippines due to concurrency issues. Moreover, you cannot also endorse your RN license from other states to California.

To Achieveanything- I can feel your pain and sometimes many of us will always look for anything to blame for our frustrations specially if we have student loans to pay. However, I suggest that we do a little bit of research before we start throwing stones. There is retrogression for hiring Philippine nurses since 2007 and as of October 2015 Visa Bulletin the waiting time for sponsoring Philippine nurses is 8 years. In addition to the astronomical cost of hiring overseas nurses, do you think any HHC's Human Resource Directors will have the time to patiently wait for them ? check this for more info: Visa Bulletin Movement for EB3-PHILIPPINES

RETROGRESSION ISSUE
This is the suggestion of Tyler Grote during visa retrogression: [h=1]3 Things You Should be Doing During Visa Retrogression[/h] By Tyler Grote On May 29, 2015 · Add Comment · In Career Opportunities, For Nurses, News for My Nurses, USA Visas Last week, we released a list of seven common mistakes our company sees during visa retrogression periods. This is Health Carousel's third visa retrogression period, so we've seen enough to know the good practices from the bad. And now that we've covered what you definitely do not want to do, we'll talk about the things you should still be doing. The situation is out of your control. But many people interpret that as an invitation to stop what they're doing and make other plans. Avoid the temptation to quit – we have seen this happen twice before, and we expect priority dates to spring forward once again. They always do. And those who remain driven and dedicated to their dreams are typically the first to achieve it. The following is a short list of things you should being doing during visa retrogression: 1) Keep clinical skills sharp. PassportUSA is no stranger to the nursing situation in the Philippines. There are so many nurses, some of you are paying to volunteer at a hospital. And if you've been affected by the recent visa retrogression news, you may not be willing to continue doing that. We understand. We always advise taking care of yourself and your family, first and foremost. But think about this. You decided to go for the American Dream. Wasn't this already the best decision for yourself and family? Retrogression doesn't end the dream, it merely delays it. And when it's over, the hospitals that needed your services before will still be waiting for qualified nurses and therapists. Will you be one of them? Companies like ours take pride in providing these hospitals with exceptional international medical talent. If you are to be included in that group, you'll need to keep your clinical skills sharp. Keep in mind, you're not the only person affected by visa retrogression. You may decide it's not worth the time and effort volunteering on top of your full-time job. But if you plan on continuing your pursuit of the American Dream when retrogression moves forward again, you'll be just one of thousands of applicants. What makes you more appealing than those applicants? Keep those clinical skills sharp, keep volunteering if you must and separate yourself from your competition. 2) Stay in touch with your agency. You decided to work with your agency because you trusted them. If you're with an agency that charged you no money, that offered to reimburse you for your language exams or other potential things and has always acted in your best interest, stay in touch with them during this time. They have hundreds, sometimes thousands of other nurses and therapists to keep up with, so don't take it personal if you aren't hearing from them as much as you did. That's why we advise sending an e-mail once a week, or even a quick phone call. This let's your agency know to take you seriously. You're not changing plans because of temporary roadblocks. Staying in touch increases your stock, especially if you're following point No. 1 above. That's the kind of commitment that manifests itself in everything you do, and it's why you're going to be successful in the United States. 3) Stay positive. Easy for us to say from our perspective. But this is vital, almost as vital as point No. 1. We speak with our Philippine constituents every day, both online and on the phone. We hear the dismay, we read the distress – and we understand. Agencies like ours are frustrated too, but more importantly, so are the hospitals and the patients inside them. Retrogression doesn't end America's nursing shortage. It just makes it worse. Everyone feels like the backlash of retrogression – no one benefits from this. Because we can't change the situation, we can at least focus on what we can control. Stay positive. If you can stay positive, if you can keep your clinical experience current and if you stay in touch with your agency, you absolutely will achieve your American dream at the end of this retrogression period.

EB3 MOVEMENT 2015---for those who want to pursue their US application.
Good morning America. I'm going to make a bold prediction here for May EB3 bulletin. My wild guess is that the priority date for applicants from UK, Canada, Australia, & Philippines will become current in the coming few days. U.S. needs the best and the brightest legal immigrants in order to foster growth & innovation. For example, Mike Krieger founded Instagram after graduating from Stanford University. He is from Brazil and entered the U.S. on F-1 student visa. Jan Koum, a Jewish immigrant from Ukraine, migrated to the U.S. at age 16 and founded Whatspp. He sold Whatspp to Facebook last year for $16 Billion ( Read : Billion ). Both immigrants created jobs and contributed taxes to local & federal agencies. Do you know how a tiny island of Singapore with land area of only 270 square miles similar to the city of Chicago became a world-class financial powerhouse ? Singapore has no natural resources but it became a rich & powerful country by emulating what the U.S. did for the last centuries. Singapore ranked 3rd as the wealthiest nation in the world ( U.S. ranked 9th ) and 17 percent of its resident households are ( US$ ) millionaires ( 17 percent is not a typo ) by investing in human resources and encourages foreign skilled and talented professionals to work in their country. We must differentiate skilled versus non-skilled immigrants, just my 2 cents. Peace & love .................................

EB3 MOVEMENT 2015---for those who want to pursue their US application.
Bobby Murphy, the Filipino-American co-founder of popular app Snapchat, entered this year's Forbes list of world billionaires. The 26-year-old, Stanford-educated Murphy has a net worth of $1.5 billion, making him the second youngest dollar billionaire in the club, Forbes reported. Recently, he turned down a $3-billion buyout offer from Facebook in 2013, and the app now has a value of $19 billion. Forbes said Murphy has a stake of at least 15 percent in Snapchat. His mother emigrated from the Philippines. This is one of the many examples on how immigrants can have a positive impact on job creation & innovation to the U.S. economy.
