OKAY...took NLCEX-RN today and....
I'm not expecting anything for a week at the very least. They're probably swamped with all the new grads testing right now.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
I think "ready for delivery" means they have your result but have not yet sent it to your BRN. I believe "Delivery successful" means your state BRN has received your result. When I tried the trick yesterday the status said "ready for delivery" and the pop-up window I got said that there was still an open exam and I would not be able to schedule another exam. When I tried the trick and the status said "delivery successful" the pop-up window told me to contact my board. Best of luck to you!

OKAY...took NLCEX-RN today and....
There's a whole giant thread on it. :)

Just took the NCLEX and shut off at 75!!
I don't know how long it takes. I have classmates who tested 9 days ago and their names still aren't up. I was talking to some people from another school and they were saying it seemed to take 2 business days for names to appear on the BRN site. I just know I'll keep looking until I see my name with "RN" after it. :)

Quick results or Pearson Trick?
If CA participated in Quick Results I'd be all over that.

OKAY...took NLCEX-RN today and....
I'm praying they're all right too! I took NCLEX today and would be a mess without that trick. I'm in CA and our state does not participate in Quick Results, so we're out of luck until our names come up on our BRN website.

Here's the link for the CA BRN permanent license verification.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
I took NCLEX this morning and got 75 questions. I am in California and our BRN website says it takes 2-4 weeks to be notified via mail of the results. As everyone knows, CA does not participate in the QuickResults so I was very thankful for this little trick. I feel relieved now that I know there's a good chance I passed. Prior to this, the only other trick I knew of was looking for my name on the BRN website. :)

California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?
You have to check the websites regularly. The nurse recruiter at Mercy San Juan told me that Mercy Methodist, Mercy General, and Mercy Folsom don't have set dates for their new grad programs and so add positions here and there. 500 people applied, 200 resumes were forwarded to managers and 24 people were interviewed for the 6-10 new grad positions at San Juan. There is a lot of competition for new grad positions, especially here in the Sacramento area. Only 10-15 of my 48 classmates have jobs lined up. When I left the MSJ interview they told me that they expect people who aren't hired to keep their skills up by working at BloodSource, a dialysis clinic or in subacute care and to continue their education. I've never worked in healthcare but I did my 4th semester clinical rotation and my preceptorship at the hospital where I was offered a job, so I'm one of the lucky few in my class. Best of luck to all of you.

Finally at the end of the NS road.
Congratulations! I had my final yesterday and our pinning ceremony is Tuesday. It's a very exciting time, isn't it?

Am I going to be able to get a job?
Also, I would recommend not waiting until you graduate to apply. Even if jobs descriptions specify experienced nurses, apply anyway. If they don't get enough experienced applicants, most places will consider new grads. Don't forget about county or prison nursing - it may not be your ideal, but it's a foot in the door of experience.

Am I going to be able to get a job?
I'm in Sacramento, CA and the market for new grads is tough right now. We have about 7 nursing programs within 45 minutes of the Sacramento area. Almost all of the hospitals are hiring but they want experienced nurses. I think there are areas of the country with severe shortages still who are happily hiring new grads. If you're able to leave your area you may have better luck. My mom is sick so I can't leave Sacramento, but my backup plan is to finish my BSN if I am unable to find a job. Good luck!

Final Semester Preceptorship?
At the end of our final semester we do a 72 hour preceptorship. It's something our program has only been doing for the past year. I'm really enjoying it. It feels strange not to be at the hospital for "clinicals" on my regular Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but it's wonderful working with the same nurse and working an entire shift. I think it's a great idea to show us more what it will be like when we graduate and find a job. :)

NCLEX-RN: 265 questions and PASSED!
Woo hoo! Congratulations! I'll keep this in mind when I take my boards this summer. :)

Enough is enough: Get out of my wallet.
Even if we're required to go to the last day of clinical lunches (because they count as clinical hours), we are not required to order anything. I've known since first semester what the options are for the pinning ceremony (cap and gown or whites and we wear whites for clinical) and our class gets to vote. Maybe some of your classmates could talk to people who have graduated in previous semesters to see if they can borrow whites for the ceremony? Also, pinning is like graduation. You can elect not to go. It's a personal choice. Our ADN program covers the costs of the invitations, tickets and programs for our pinning ceremony. SNA is considering paying for some other fee if we give them the ugly blue vest we wear as part of our uniform. We pay for our pins, but as individuals we are able to choose the quality and therefore the price of our own pin. You should talk to your program director if you feel so strongly about this. Maybe wearing clinical uniforms can be an option.

Missed Dosage Calc by two points!!!
In our 4 semester ADN program it was 80% until this semester. They now require 90% but there are 3 retests after remediation. We have a dosage calc test every semester and we also have math questions on every exam. It's kind of an important thing! Our questions vary depending on what we're studying that semester. We had a lot of IV Push questions 3rd semester and because we did Peds second semester, we had a lot of "is this dose safe?" questions... I kind of like the math exam. It comforts me to know that I know what I'm doing. :)

I was denied a maternity leave.
My program allows students to leave for a semester if they are experiencing a hardship of some sort. People have left due to family illness, pregnancy, spouse losing job, etc. The program then readmits them to the same semester they were in when they left. One of my classmates in first semester was repeating first semester with us because with 2 weeks of clinical left in her original first semester, she was riding her bike, fell off and broke her wrist. She had to repeat all of 1st semester, but they did let her return. I think it's unfair that this person is not able to hold off a semester until her pregnancy is over. It's much more fair the way my program handles things, I think.

TB test
Before I started first semester we had to get 2 TB tests, administered one week apart. Go someplace else and get another one. My school provides them for a small fee.

what high school prerequisites do i need for the nursing program at sac city or ARC?
I started a year ago at ARC and the youngest person we had in our class turned 21 a month into the semester. The drug test is a urine test and must be done at certain facilities - they'll give you the information about cost and where you can have it done. Go in and speak with a counselor. The web site is spot on about the prerequisites and there are a lot of people applying - we had 600 people apply and 62 admitted in my semester. Many people are applying multiple times to get in. They won't let you apply until your prereqs have been met. Best of luck to you. ARC has a great program and I'm enjoying it immensely.

New LPN, new job, and IV push...
I'm still in school, but our instructors are very clear when they tell us to never do anything outside our scope of practice. That includes once we're RNs. I'd offer to get the doctor new gloves, if necessary. You're putting your license in jeopardy if you're doing things outside your legal scope of practice.

Did RNs Have To Practice Bathing Each Other In NS
We just pretended to do faces, arms & hands on each other. We didn't brush teeth or feed each other. We had the option to practice injections and NG tubes on one another.
