We all know where it will go if anything about God is mentioned. But then again, I tend to have asinine opinions.

As others have said, it's not a culture thing; it's a legal thing.

You assume something I neither implied nor said. Every day I work I have pedophile patients. Every day. Dozens of them. I treat them like I treat any other person. The point I was making was that most people seem to view pedophiles as disgusting animals. I don't. Neither do I view substance abusers as crap. They are people who have wandered down an unfortunate path. The average nurse would not believe the types of people I choose to work with every day.

The original question, will universal healthcare ( in the USA) cut RN pay? In the long term, I doubt it. Supply and demand controls much of our economy and salaries. In the short term, if universal healthcare is suddenly implemented, I suspect there would be enormous changes in everything. Government screws up most everything it controls. Look at the education system. Yuch. We are where we are now because of governmental regulations that requires that anyone who has an emergency can go to the ER and not be refused. This, of course, can result in millions of dollars of unpaid bills in each hospital. This results in having to charge those who do pay even more to make up for the losses. At some point, insurance companies have to charge more for the inflated prices caused by the non-payers. At another point, insurance becomes too expensive for the average person to afford. There is a cause and effect to all decisions made.

I see your point. Do you also give the same break to pedophiles? Pedophilia is described as an illness by the American Psychiatric Association.

I have a nurse coworker, who is male, that enjoys making sexual comments about the female nurses. I have told him multiple times that his comments are inappropriate. My best friend at work, a female, seems to be the focus of all his sexual energies. He constantly makes comments like "When I'm around her all I can think about is how much I want to **** her!", and other similar comments. I'm not an old fuddy-duddy, but these types of comments are out of place at work. I don't want to tell the nurse manager about it, mainly because he is a warm body, and we've had trouble keeping nurses (prison work). She is unlikely to do anything about it, and, if she did, it would be because her hand is being forced. Any ideas on how to solve this?

On a lighter note, you are correct. There are significant differences between the two.

I had the same procedure in 2003. I was up and walking and pain-free that same night. I was in college preparing for Nursing school and went back to class two days later. I've never looked back and have been pain-free ever since. There is hope and I wish you well.

Sorry, but I couldn't help but see the irony in these statements. "Everyone out for themselves." Therefore, give me the money that YOU have made so I can take care of ME. There may be an argument to Universal Healthcare, but this is not it.

And, it's either your way or risk being called profiting or in denial.

This rule does not silence those who have no problem with certain practices. It protects those who do have a problem with certain practices. Quite a difference.

Size doesn't have anything to do with it. Showing the inmates respect, just as you would anyone else, is what they expect. We were taught in Nursing school to treat everyone equally, regardless of their backgrounds. Also, always show respect towards the Correctional Officers. They've got your back. I've been a correctional RN for almost a year now. It's the best job I've ever had. I treat the inmates as my patients. Just like in any other job, you run across some jerks. But, for the most part, they are very grateful if you treat them with respect. I've learned a lot since being in corrections. It's a different set of skills. Regardless of where you go to work, you're not gonna learn it all. Corrections is another place to learn.
