Well for instance none of my credits from my Lpn would count toward the RN program at any college except for excelsior and carrington. You are just more limited on where you can work, as an RN who graduated from carrington you aren't able to work at most of the hospitals like Luke's or als. They want accredited nursing programs. Also, a lot of hospitals aren't hiring lpns anymore, as an Lpn you are mostly limited to nursing homes and clinics. The Lpn program was okay, it was 5 days a week, full time. It takes commitment but is doable. You have to choose what works best for you. Best of luck.

I am going through Idaho state university for my Lpn to RN. I went to carrington for my Lpn but the RN program is not accredited. I would say choose another program unless you want to work in LTC.

What about Med surg certified nurses? We run our butts off and deserve the same pay as anyone else.

I got a job on a med/surg floor two years ago. I've learned how to do so much I've acquired some strong skills. I would suggest med/surg to any new nurse.

Med surg is definitely not an easy floor to work. Burn out is extremely high, if it werent for my amazing coworkers I don't think I would last much longer. Our patient load usually runs 1:4-5 usually with 3-4 discharges and 3-4 admits, surgeries, or transfers. We get tons of detoxing pts who can be combative. We also get a ton of confused pts who get dumped on our floor because their care center refuses to take them back. When I leave at the end of each shift if I'm not nearly in tears then it was a good day.

I think it's the best shift for a new nurse, you can take your time and there are still staff on if you have any questions, usually much more laid back. Esp. At a SNF

I applied literally everywhere. Got my first job about a month after I got my license at a SNF working PRN. It was definitely not ideal, I worked many double shifts, but about 3 months later I landed a job at the VA hospital on a med surg floor.

I would be taking the course through the school I'm hoping to attend for my RN so that shouldn't be an issue. I've taken many courses online and they do seem to be more work with research and the discussion board.

I am a mom of two and I definitely feel like getting my LPN first has set me back a bit time wise. It's definitely hard to work and try to gain that experience while still going to school for RN. The RNs where I work make about $10 more per hour than LPNs. If I had it to do over I would probably just go straight for RN

Has anyone taken biology 2 online? How was it? I have the option to take lecture and lab online, I just had a baby so the more time I can be at home the better. What about microbiology online? I have taken many classes online, but never a science one. Any advice would help.

I have ADHD and work med surg. Sometimes I drive myself crazy with how distracted I can become, but I always manage to get everything done and on time.

If a pharmacist who went for school for many more years than I said something isn't compatible as well as Micromedix, which is evidence based it's pretty obvious you should listen.

I'm sure they will teach you how to obtain an EKG. I learned on the job. Same goes for phlebotomy, if you already have your cert. you really only need some experience. I wouldn't lie. I would say "I did receive some experience in school, I just need to brush up my skills and I'll be good to go" something to that sort

I work on a med surg floor in a hospital. My Supervisor told us we will no longer be hiring LPNs and that we need to obtain our RN license. The only other hospital/rehab facility nearby that hired LPNs just called them all into a room and let every single one of them go.

I went to school up until two days before my baby arrived, she is currently three months old and I start up again in January. Don't give up! You have worked this hard to get where you are, if anything continue on for that precious baby.

No not everything is compatible. I once saw a nurse hook up two incompatible drugs and the tubing quickly filled with a curdled mix looking substance!
