Becoming an RN just for the paycheck
Why not? Why do you think that "... people going into nursing for a stable job and good paycheck" cann't "...provide quality and compassionate care"? My be you mix up a humane qualities and an abilities and talent to be good or even excellent nurse. Compassion is a humane quality and it isn't depend on talent to be good nurse, on the other hand, it is impossible to be good nurse without compassion for a patient.

Well, I am a doctor
Well, Im a Doctor too :) Realy, I have Diploma of physician, but now Im RN, BA of Nursing. Do you think that we, RNs, have lower respectable education than physicians? I don't. Medicine and Nursing are different sciences and Nurse and Doctor are specialists on the another field, that is all.

"Don't waste your time getting your BSN..."
Hi dear colleagues! Happy New Year!:balloons: I want to say something about academic degree of RN in Israel. We haven't BSN here, only BAN and our universities and colleges don't offer academic degree for LPN. But RN have some reasons to get academical degree in nursing in our country: 1.RN with BA have little higher salary than without it. 2.It is impossible to be accepted on the nursing specialty course (oncology, ICU and so on) without academic degree. I now that Nurses Associations of Ontario and British Colombia don't accepts new members without academic degree in Nursing. The same our Health Ministry promises in nearly future. And I think it is right in some mean, if you don't learn you don't keep you professionalism, because we work not only manually but with our brain too, we don't?

warfarin nocte'
"Warfarin sodium and other coumarin anticoagulants act by inhibiting the synthesis of vitamin K dependent clotting factors..." "...An anticoagulation effect generally occurs within 24 hours after drug administration. However, peak anticoagulant effect may be delayed 72 to 96 hours. The duration of action of a single dose of racemic Warfarin is 2 to 5 days..." (http://www.drugs.com) Now we can see that administration of Warfarin in the evening hours doesn't related with its' pharmacology. I think the evening hours are convenient for a dose correction(a physician receive results of tests from a laboratory).

Bachelors in ???
Hi, SunnyAZRN, I'm RN from Haifa, Israel. I began my BA-of-Nursing-Study in October last year. There are at last two aspects in academic studies, I think, a career and a comprehensive and deep understanding of problems and their solutions in our work. Additional, academic education open door to scientific career. I enjoy to learn in University, it is so interesting! May be, it is third aspect. :)

Green Card
Hi, Suzanne! I'm Israel trained RN, I have license in Israel and have been work as RN in LTC-facility more then one year. I didn't pass VisaScrin and IELTS exam yet. I want to relocate to US or Canada and want to do it as soon as possible. But... I'm 49 years old and I cann't spend years to wait for all standart process. Last time I wonder will I can run better all this things if I'll come to US and will find job as nurse aid in some LTC or Nursing home? Is it possible? Would I improve my English and would prepare to English and NCLEX exams better if I would live and work in US? What do you think about that?

Can a nurse immigrats to canada as a skilled worker?
The College of Nurses of Ontario require BSN for registration ,but there are some provinces that BsN is not mandatory for registration there (Saskatchewan, for example, may be Alberta and Manitoba too). If your studied for RN-diploma in English you haven't go to IELTS-exam.(International English Language Test System).

Can a nurse immigrats to canada as a skilled worker?
I think, the best way is to go to NRCE in some appropriate province, find job and after all that to apply to Canadian Citizenship(if you want exactly be canadian citizen :) ).

Losing your skills in LTC
Dear friends and colleagues! Thank you very much for your post! I'm very glad that there are such people in "nursing community" and so many! I'm Israel-graduated RN and work in Nursing Home only 11 month. But only here I understand what is it nursing. I worked 7 years as CRNA since my graduating in USSR in 1979, graduated from Medicine College and continued as physician. Didn't worked in medicine some years after my immigration and now I'm back. Believe me, to start IV or although to do intubation of trachea - can do some person without some medicine training, because that is "hand skills". I think that "brain skills" and "heart skills" are main in nursing. I would say that they exactly nursing are. Excuse me for my broken English. I think that each nurse have begin his/her way in nursing from LTC. Thank you and good luck!

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
May be that is seen funny, but I becam nurse, because I wanted became physician... I graduated from high school and went to accept exam to Medicine college and failed. There wasn't enough time for second attempt in next year, because I had to go to army as each boy how is 18 years old in USSR. And I went to Nursing college... 8 years I worked as a CRNA before Medicine college and when I just study there. I graduated from Medicine college and 3 years worked as physician... Only after my emigration to Israel, after some long years of fails on Exam for Physician license I once remember that I'm nurse and can to go to LPN exam. Now I'm Israel graduated RN, I work in Nursing Home and love my job and my profession.

I want to relocat and looking for advice...
I'm 48 years old Israel trained RN. I immigrate to Israel 12 years ago, all of my family live here, I just know Hebrew as my mother language, I study and graduate to RN and work here but I don't feel that I home. The Oriental life-style and mentality, total destruction of moral values, poor (1/3 of population), crime... that is very difficult, or may be, impossible for me to accept it. Hot and humidity tropic clime destroy my health. I don't expect to be rich, only honorable life and self realization in my profession in friendly environment. Where I can find it, your think? US, Canada? Help me, please.

I am new and need some advise
Yes, that is must be general line in our work! I answered once to question:"How I can be good nurce?" exactly with your words! Nice to meet you!
-
please help!!!
Dear friends and colleagues! Let me say some words too. In Israel is routine to do PT minimum ones at 1-2 months(if I don't miss) if patient take coumadin, in US sure too. PT can change to same direction. We cann't know which. This may be key, WI_cna, if wife of you resident would like to turn to the court. That is not your function to direct the patient to lab. exam.
