Starting an RN-Bsn-Msn program 10/13. Who has a good site for textbooks? There's a ton out there and I want the best deal ;-)

My sister (twin) and I have been RNs for 8 years. I specialized in L&D and she specialized in NICU. We love our jobs, but we both enjoy teaching as well. We want to go back for our Master's. The $$ is what is stopping us. We both have two children and both work full-time jobs. Is an MSN worth it? I thought it would be nice teaching clinicals, but what else can you do with the degree? And curious, what do educators make per hour? Thank you so much for your time.

Lemme edit: I am not wanting to specialize because I don't want to limit myself. If I want a same day surgery center for example one day, I do not want to be overqualified etc. That being said, nurse leadership/education wouldn't limit me to staying RN in labor and delivery etc right?

I have done a little research, but maybe the forum can help. We are looking for an online (we both have kids and full time jobs) program that offers an RN(ADN) - MSN without having to specialize. Also, something affordable and that does not take a million years to complete. As many of you RNs know, a MSN is not going to make you a ton of money, and we are not looking to get into debt (remember kids?? we have to afford their college lol). We were originally looking at RN-BSN programs online, but MSN sounds more exciting for us and useful. Any suggestions are welcomed :)

I see you're from cleveland, have you tried Ohio University? That seems to be a popular one....I am from Cleveland too and am in the search myself.

I know I have to get a BSN soon, but where is the cheapest option? I won't get a raise with a BSN and I don't want to go into debt getting one. Ohio university seems like the place everyone I know goes, but has anyone done the research on the cheapest school?

Ofcourse there are opportunities. A lot of people would like you to have a MSN like a nursing school. Starting form scratch is always an option, but maybe "getting your feet wet" in a company first will help you see if you would like it.

We get a whopping $2/hr to be on call. It should be paid because you have to be ready to go at anytime.

Any EFM books or AWHONN books are great!! Casual reading, "Midwives" is a fictional book but an awesome read.

I am not sure why they won't look at you. Personally, I would take someone with nursing experience over a new grad. Maybe it's the pay? But still, the managers shouldn't care about that.... Maybe update your resume a little more and see what they want from you....

In your opinion what is the best overall shoe for you at work for 12 hours on a busy busy day?

We were told that when I worked night shift. I think it is to cover their butts because nurses cannot treat without orders. Truthfully, the new nurses listened, the experienced ones still triaged like we always do...

I have been a nurse for 8 years and I don't know if it is because I am getting older or what, but my legs are always hurting now after 12 hours. I recently went to a seminar for runners and was brave enough to as about the best shoes for nurses. I thought immediately Danskos because everyone says they are so good, I was wrong. He said hoko one shoe is the best. Has anyone tried this shoe? The reason he states it is good is because of the impact it gives.

Anyone ever hear of telecommuting jobs as case managers for labor and delivery/maternity? I would love to do something like that.

Take your time and check a lot of people. Everyone has different anatomy. Remember back to your first manual Bp when you didn't hear the "thud" at first. You will get it, just keep practicing. Feel for the head and work around there.

I need someone to lay me with the facts and not sugar coat anything and tell me what your average day is like? Average day for me. I get up at 4:30, get my kids ready, my lunch ready, and head into work. I get there by 6:30, look at the "day" for what scheduled things are on the books. I work in an ldrp and am usually a charge nurse. I see that it is ethier going to be a no lunch day or an okay day (usually no lunch) I make the assignments, check the ORs, make sure I have triage ready and a few labor rooms. I look to see what doctors are on and anesthesia. Also, I check on our special care nursery and the social issues on the floor (there are more bad situations than good) The day changes from there. You never know what your scheduled induction/c/s can do, along with social issues with taking the baby home with the drug addict mother or the teen mom with no resources. There are good patients and bad, you will see What's the advantages/disadvantages of working in L&D? Advantages - everyday is different and exciting! The good happy families. Disadvantages - no scheduled breaks, fetal demises. Does L&D hire new grads often? - No. And is there any extra classes I should consider to take while working to receive my ADN to make me stand out on my resume? Maybe a job as an aide? And also can RNs that work in L&D work in the nursery? Yes, we do in our dept.

The lowest contract I have seen is 8 weeks. I also hear of strike nursing that does at least 2 weeks...anyone know any companies that offer short high paying contracts? I am an L&D nurse.
