Looking for a RN Refresher course near Philadelphia,PA...help??
Old old old thread, but just a shot in the dark to see how the refresher programs went and if they helped you get a job. I graduated 3.5 years ago but was offered a promotion at my current job having nothing to do with healthcare and am really starting to regret it. I'd like to get into nursing and imagine I'll need a refresher course and likely start in LTC or Rehab and just work my way up, which is fine.

No experience, out of school 3.5 years
Unfortunately my wife and I just purchased a new home only 3 months ago. Moving now would be a huge financial hit just from the Realtor commissions and isn't realistic. I spoke to my Board of Nursing and they said getting back to an active status shouldn't be difficult but will require a little work on my part. I'm also looking into volunteer opportunities on the weekends. Perhaps I can keep my day job to pay the bills and get some volunteer work under my belt showing I'm worth the investment. Once my license is active again I'll be applying to every LTC, Rehab, Nursing home, Home Health, etc. I'm willing to put in the time, do the shifts nobody wants, and hope that someone is just willing to give me a shot. I'm also looking for opportunity to just apply my nursing degree to something medical. Some type of manager assistant or something along those lines in a hospital. This will at least get me familiar with the environment and perhaps I can make a lateral move one day.

New Grad RN can't find a job
I know this is an older thread but it speaks to me.. I got my nursing degree and at graduating was offered a great promotion with my current job which I took (having nothing to do with nursing). Three and a half years later I keep kicking myself with regret that I didn't follow my passion. Now I'm just trying to figure out how I can get my foot in the door as a "new grad" having been out of school going on 4 years!!! Even refresher courses want to know your past "experience". I'm worried I shot myself in the foot and may never be able to land a job in healthcare now. I'm thinking I may have to give up on a clinical type of nursing and hope I can land something more admin based and maybe sidestep my way in.

Help with job options, shot self in foot
Thanks for the tip. Even if that is just my foot in the door and I can move on to another setting later on and request additional orientation or something.. I just gotta get in there.

Help with job options, shot self in foot
I'm going to call first thing Tuesday (already too late today and I imagine everywhere is closed Monday). And I'm going to start the process of getting my license reactivated. Then I'm going to send my resume to every LTC, Rehab and Dr office in a 50 mile radius with a cover letter explaining how all my non-nursing work experience as an operations manager has actually helped prepare me for nursing. Time management, organization, multi-tasking, delegation. These are skills no new grad would have, I just need the actual nursing skills that they teach in orientation anyway. If I can just get an interview I'm sure I can convince them I'm well worth the investment. Its just scary to think I might end up nowhere.

No experience, out of school 3.5 years
I graduate from a 4 year BSN program and passed my boards about 3.5 years ago, I put my license in "inactive" status last year. My current job made me a great offer to stay on board which I took (non-heath related). I've regretted it ever since. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get my foot in the door with nursing. I'm literally willing to do about anything, even volunteer work on the weekends. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Are there any certifications I should be considering as well?

Help with job options, shot self in foot
I put my license in "inactive" status last year. I called the NJ nursing board and they said getting it back to "active" wouldn't be very hard. I guess I really just need to find someone willing to see that I'm worth the investment. Being 100% honest, I didn't think my nursing school made me all the prepared for real world nursing. I think I would have required the same exact amount of training then as I'd need today.

Help with job options, shot self in foot
I could really use a little help and direction as I'm quite upset with myself right now. I graduated from nursing school in NJ about 3.5 years ago and passed my Nclex in 75 questions. My current full time job made a very competitive offer for me to stay on. I've regretted it ever since. I thought "I can always fall back on nursing and take a refresher course". What I'm finding is most refresher courses want you to have experience. And I just really cant imagine anywhere considering me. I'm very willing to start from the ground up in any capacity. Long term care, corrections, rehab, flu shots. You name it I'd do what it takes as I'm so mad I didn't follow my correct path. I'm looking for any advice, help, insight, direction, or words of reassurance. Is there a way to side step my way into nursing? Like healtcare administration, or some type of medical desk job. Any help would be very greatly appreciated

Refesher course or ?
I did take my Nclex and passed in 75 questions. I set my license as "inactive" last year. I spoke to the board of nursing and they said reactivating my license and being eligible to work as a nurse wouldn't be a problem. Its just a matter of finding opportunity. No, after nursing school I did not actually work as a nurse (which I regret). I'm also strongly considering leaving my current job behind and just focusing on getting into healthcare like I always planned. I was thinking maybe a rehab center, corrections, or nursing home may consider me? After all my very first clinical was a nursing home.

Refesher course or ?
What about doing something simpler like flu shots, or volunteering in a hospital to at least get my foot in the door to meet the right people?

Refesher course or ?
Just wanted to bump this back up top.

Refesher course or ?
I graduated 3 years ago but put nursing on the back burner when my current job made a competitive offer and asked me to stay on (not nursing). Business is still good, but I've always wanted to do something in nursing, and can't shake this feeling of regret. I'd love to land something on the weekends and maybe 1 week night. Do I NEED a refresh course, or can I go about it another way? Maybe someone would be willing to hire me directed toward non-bedside nursing. Are the online refresher courses any good? Looking for any suggestions.

Business Brainstorm
Depending on your state you could do Tattoo removal. Something like 40% of people ages 18-25 currently have a tattoo, plenty of business out there. Most sessions cost around $200 and will need 4-5 sessions. You'll need a 2 week course to become certified ($2500), all the legal stuff and llc ($1500), lease an office ($5000 security deposits), equipment and furnishings ($10,000) and a lazer ($75,000). So all in you're looking at an investment of about $100,000 to get into it. You're your own boss, with growth potential.

Out of school 2 years.. now what?
I graduated from a BSN program about 2 years ago. I was offered a partnership at the small company I was working with at the time with a competitive salary to stay. I decided to put nursing on the back burner, I've now been with my current company (having nothing to do with nursing) for 7 years. I'm in an executive type management position, but the owner has seemed to completely lost interest in his company. He never comes in anymore, hes making extremely poor decisions, and burning through piles of cash. I'm worried about the future of the business and my career. Does anyone have any good recommendations for me? I imagine I'd need a refresher course to do any hospital work, I honestly don't know if I'm cut out for bedside nursing (just being honest with myself). Is there anything I can do at night or on weekends? Part time nurse work, will they even consider me with no nursing experience and 2 years out of school? Thanks for any suggestions..

What can I do with my degree?
When I started nursing school I got involved with a start-up company having nothing to do with nursing. The company has since grown and financially I make a good deal more than I would as a nurse. Now 2 years after graduating, business is still good, but I'd really like to be involved with nursing as I had originally planned. Is there something I can do 1 or 2 nights a week? Keep in mind I've been out of school for 2 years, have no formal training, and leaving my current position for any extended length of time is simply not an option. I was thinking maybe I could get involved with a plastic surgeons office and learn botox injections or maybe dermatology?
