  1. I sent a request to join your Quizlet NCLEX study page. I am graduating in 7 days, although I am finished with all my clinicals/tests. I'm just waiting for the event. I'm doing both Kaplan and Hurst. I've been doing the Kaplan review videos. I take Hurst this coming week. I have to pass on my first try due to other obligations (BSN/Intern program) but I have not yet received my ATT to test. I'm excited and scared to death to take the NCLEX. I'm a good student but not the best test taker although I've done fairly well. I've gotten better each semester at testing. Please update your post after you test! I appreciate the Quizlet because I can use any help available.
  2. Each semester is broken up into sections 75.1A, 75B, 75C, and 75D. So 75C is my 3rd semester of the program. You do not get to pick what days or what times your clinical rotations will be. I've had every shift now. You also don't get to pick the facility you will be at either, it is all picked before hand by the instructors. Lecture times very by semester as do skills labs. If I remember correctly 75.1A lectures started at 8am. But they like to change it up so it could be as early as 7:30. I've got several 8:am times this week along with afternoon ones.
  3. Clinicals are usually on Tuesday/Wed (day or evening) or Sat/Sun (day or evening). We also had lectures on Monday and Thursdays and some skills labs on Thursday and Fridays. You will spend a lot of time on campus. I'm in my 3rd semester and my schedule is brutal! My friend will also be starting with you. She is a great person! If you need books several people in 75C are wanting to sell their books.
  4. That sucks as1021 but seems to be more common than not. I have an amazing friend who didn't get in yet again. It is terrible because she is an awesome person and would be such an amazing nurse but there are so many people applying that it is difficult. I think she got on the wait list of two schools so she still could get in. I hope she does because like I said she is awesome! I hope you get in as well. I do know someone who applied 8xs before getting in. So keep the hope going!
  5. Okay, so this is how it works. You take one class for your BSN during the summer of your first year. Then, you take a second class during the summer of your second year. You graduate that May so techinically you now have a ADN and are applying/waiting to take your NCLEX. Next, during the fall you go full time for your BSN. Basically, you start "early" for your BSN. You could skip doing the summer classes and apply after you finish and it takes the same amount of time. The only difference is you have those two classes finished by the time you start full time for your BSN. It is called an early start BSN. I hope that makes sense. All programs are different but this is how the program I got into works. There are a lot of details I left out but this is the basic idea.
  6. I do not work while going to school. It was definitely not possible my second semester. Med-Surg was too busy with prelabbing and skills labs. A few of my friends are working part time over the summer. I got into a BSN program so I won't be working like I had planned. I'll be starting my second year in the fall of my two year program.
  7. It will depend on how many people do not accept their offer into the program. I know people who were on the list who got in and people who did not. Just don't give up!
  8. They notify each program differently. For the normal ADN program they notify you in the summer around the end of May or in June. I think they send out initial acceptance letters then as people decline they send out more. After a certain date they must send out the alternates list. As for as the LVN/Bridge I don't know since that lottery is different. Because you are an LVN you start at a different place as us ADN program people. I am assuming the LVN/ADN bridge program is only a year? Our ADN program is 2 years. I again know nothing about the LVN bridge. I started this Fall and I am just hitting half way. You should all know soon because you have to have all your vaccines and documents and that takes time to get. Good luck everyone applying for the bridge I hope you all find out soon!
  9. My school requires Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, and Anatomy along with English as pre-reqs. These classes do not include all the classes required for GE. It takes 3 full years, at full time to complete everything just to apply to the program. Everyone in my program has a very high GPA and there are people who still struggle at math not because they are stupid, but because not all schools teach dimensional analysis. I found that for some problems like medical calculations and straight conversions it works great, but for more difficult word problems it can be confusing and make those problems harder especially if the problems have erroneous information. Our program gets about 500-600 applicants each year for 120 spots. I feel lucky and privileged to have gotten in on my first try. There are many people who have applied more than once and still are waiting. I think all programs differ depending on where you live and the size of the population. I am in CA so we have lot of people and lots of them want to get into nursing. So what I am saying is your experience is not everyone's experience and if you were to go to another area you might find the opposite.
  10. I got moved up to Fall so I'll get to finish a semester earlier. Yay! lol
  11. Heather I think she means she did not pass, as in did not meet her schools percentage requirement. All schools have a different % requirement. I have an A in English 1A and I didn't get an A on my TEAS for that section. For our English 1A class it was mostly essay writing and reading/comprehension. I have not had grammar or sentence structure since the fourth grade and English may be a second language for her. The English portion of the TEAS has a lot of grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. I feel LoyalWeim is right on with her assessment of the test and how to study.
  12. Our school has a basic GPA cut off and an overall GPA needed for your combined English/Science classes. If you qualify then it is a lottery. So, you do not have to have a 4.0 or even a 3.5 according to our school. I believe you needed a minimum of 3.0 to apply. I did have a good GPA because this is my second career and I never went to college ( other than Beauty College, not the same). I got in without a 4.0 but I do have a high GPA. Our program takes 120 students, 60 for Fall and 60 for Spring, and we get about 500 applicants. I got in on my first try, but sometimes it isn't about GPA and it is just luck.
  13. The one thing I could not live without for my Anatomy and other science classes was a digital recorder. I would record the lectures so when I went to re-write my notes I could refer back or clarify what my notes were saying. All my instructors were fine with me recording their lectures, but be sure to ask just in case yours are not.
  14. I also used the ATI study manual. I passed on my first try but the part that was hardest for me was being timed. You also cannot skip questions during the test and that messed me up. But I got through it and so will you!
  15. Jayllen I saw your pm but it won't let me respond since I don't have enough posts. I did write you back so maybe when I hit the posts it will send to you. I will say when you go to the Orientation they give you an add code to the class and that registers you for the semester. You do not sign up for classes or make your schedule they give it to you.
  16. Aww, you are too sweet! Thank you!
  17. Here is contact information for the ADN program, that is what you were asking correct? Santa Rosa Junior College: Health Sciences If not here is the Vocational nursing contacts (LVN) Santa Rosa Junior College: Health Sciences Since it is entrance by lottery everyone has the same chance. I only got moved up because I had already been accepted for spring and someone else must have accepted somewhere else or did not finish their requirements. My friend is still trying to get in as well. She was put on the alternates list. For what a friend told me she was wait listed last year and she had til spring semester before she had to re-apply. She did not get in but she got in this time and will be attending in fall with me. The thing that can be depressing about the SRJC is they get so many applicants, it really pure luck. I have two friends who have done the program and graduated (and are working) and two friends who just finished their first year. And 3 friends who are starting in the fall. I do wish you the best of luck!
  18. Thanks so much!! Jayllenn were you at the TEAS test? Did I miss meeting you? I heard some girls saying they asked to be switched to fall. I literally hurried home and emailed the program director. She told me no promises but I'll put you on the wait list. I did not want to give up my Spring spot just in case I did not get in for fall. I got in really last minute and I had to rush to the orientation. I actually missed part of it because I had no idea I got in til the day of orientation. I was totally thrilled so I didn't care about the rushing. I saw 4 of my friends from pre-reqs so I was happy to see some familiar faces. The other cool thing is if someone was on the waitlist to get in they now could have my Spring spot. Now I just need to find some daycare and I'll be all set. If you have not seen the tentative schedule for fall you should check it out on Jennifer's page. It will give you an idea of what your hours will be come Spring. I was a little shocked by the very long days, but anything worth doing takes work. I hope to see you on campus!
  19. I am so glad ae1021! I know with so many restrictions and hearsay it can get confusing. I hope you get in! I start next month with the ADN program. I just need to get a few more items. If you need financial aid get it in early! I didn't do mine til late because I was originally in for Spring and waitlisted for Fall. I got in for Fall and now I am waiting for my $$. The course is very front loaded with 20 textbooks and lots of gear. Best of luck!
  20. They notify you via email. Each program is different. Did you look at the link I posted above your post? It has information on the LVN and LVN bridging programs. It can answer the questions the person on the phone could not answer. You do have to read through a lot of information. You will find the information under vocational nursing. There is also information about the LVN bridge under the ADN program. I'd read the site because it has totally different application dates then you mentioned. This is for the LVN program not bridge. You have to be careful because not everyone who gives information is correct. I have received incorrect information more than once. Check the link I posted under Vocational Nursing it has all the information you need.
  21. The application period for the SRJC ADN program is Oct- Feb. Exact dates change each year but will be in Oct-Feb. I applied Oct 3rd and I heard back with everyone else the last day of May (early June for others). I am starting (Fall) next month, August 18. Check their Health Sciences page, it will give you all the same information I just did plus some. It also details LPN to ADN and so on. Santa Rosa Junior College: Health Sciences
  22. I have to say thank you! I have always been a good student but I am older so I lack confidence. Not to mention people are so damn negative. I have a great GPA and I passed the TEAS my first try. Okay, our school does not require a high % to pass but who cares. I got into the ADN program and I start this Spring. I have been worried maybe I am too old to do it. Maybe everyone is right, but now I say no way! I am going to keep plugging away until I graduate and pass that NCLEX no matter how many questions it takes. Thanks for the awesome advice! Not everyone has to be a 4.0 student and receive 100% on every test to be a good nurse. Congratulations in your achievements!
  23. If you really want to be a nurse, your grades say you do, then keep going. I am 41 and I just got accepted into the nursing program in my area. I do not have a 4.0 but close :) You can go to another region of the state. Do not be discouraged by what the councilor is telling you. Of course nursing is impacted just like everything else right now. Do not let this person sway you. Move if you have to but don't give up. I have been told by so many, you won't get in, it is too hard but I keep plugging along. I received two AS degrees and now I got into my program and passed my TEAS. I am still scared of nursing school but I will keep at it until I succeed. Please do the same!
  24. I am 41 and I just got my provisional acceptance for our local ADN program in Spring. It is provisional because you have to be cleared of all vaccines, receive a BLS certification, and pass a drug/background check. I am hoping to do the BSN bridge but I am taking things one step at a time. I did do my BSN requirement classes as well just in case. Anyhow, I have a 10 and 12 year old and I have been married for almost 16 years. I worry that I am too old to get through nursing school successfully. People in the program are constantly saying I don't know how anyone can have kids and do the program which just feeds my insecurities. I am a good student. I graduated with two AS degrees, highest honors, and I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa society. But I still feel like I am not as smart as the younger students. My biggest challenge besides school is going to be day care. My husband works full time and I car pool with another mom but I know that is not going to be enough. I need to find care for the days my husband will be at work, I'll be in school and the kids are off school. I cannot tell you how nice it is to see other moms out there trying to do the same thing. In the past I was a hairdresser and I could work my schedule around my husbands. I do not work now so that helps. Our school has clinical days on Tues/ Wed or Sat/Sun but they do say it can be changed and some Sun/Mon will happen. Plus lectures Mon-Thurs and some Fridays. I am hoping to meet someone in the program who is in the same boat and maybe we can share daycare or hire someone to watch all the kids. Anyhow, I am so glad to find moms just like me out there. Thanks for all the support and encouragement you have all posted.
  25. I start the ADN program this Spring (I am trying to get moved up to fall). And I will be turning 42 the month I start. I was a hairdresser my entire life so I never went to college. I had to start at the very beginning. It took me 3 1/2 years Full time to do all my AS and nursing pre-reqs. I also did my pre-reqs for the BSN program, I hope to transfer to during my second year. We have a bridge program here. I ended up with two AS degrees. I wish I was younger but my kids are finally old enough for me to go to college. I worry I don't have the fresh brain of a 20 year old but I am going to give it all I have.
