Any nurses that have worked hospital AND nursing home?
Have you considered OR nursing or PACU? Based on your post, I think these two areas may appeal to you. Also, if your going to get your RN, you should plan on getting your BSN. Otherwise, I think you may have limited options.

If that is the night program, what are the hours for the day program? Did they say why they are changing the night program to something so early?

Big pay cut at Orlando Health, please help your fellow Nurses
I do believe there are just too many nurses. Period. This is another reason to make BSN the entry level to practice. The American Association of Respiratory Therapists just announced their plan to implement the the bachelors in respiratory therapy the entry level requirement by 2020. I think the nursing profession is getting left behind. Having the BSN requirement would place more value on each individual nurse. I feel so bad for you FL nurses. I cant imagine taking such a drastic cut. It really is a slap in the face for administration to be so ready and willing to take advantage of the nurses.

NPs working with chiropractors
I have a family member that uses a chiroprater as there regular doctor. And by that I mean, she brings herself and the 3 kids there for wellness check ups. Im sorry but I firmly believe those 3 kids should be seeing a medical professional (md, pa, np) at least once a year for their check ups....not a chiropractor. I would not work for one and would be too embarrassed to admit it if I did.

Bullied at work
They said they wanted to jump you and fight you????? WTH, is this 2nd grade or a place of employment? I would go to the DON and let them know what physical violence was threatened and you are feeling this is a hostile work environment and you want it to stop now! Hopefully they will drop the hammer on these aides. Other than that, act professional and do your job to your best ability. You are not there to make friends. It still blows my mind that this nonsense seems to run rampant in certain nursing situations. My husband, who is a engineer, almost doesn't believe me when I tell him stories like this...he just cant wrap his head around it.

Newbie CNA shocked "care" given by CNA co-workers!
Welcome to LTC and nursing homes. Although some will say that all nursing homes are not like the one you experienced, In MY experiences, every single nursing home was exactly like you describe. Its so sad and disgusting, you end up crying or quitting.

Can CARN-AP's precribe meds?
Forgive my ignorance as I really don't know much at all about advance practice nursing. I was wondering, can CARN-AP (certified addictions registered nurses, advance practice) prescribe meds? Or are only NP's allowed to prescribe?

chiropractor employee taking blood pressures
So this is a new one....I was recently at a community event were I saw a table with a woman taking blood pressures and handing out literature. I got my blood pressure taken and asked her if she was a nurse. She said yes, she was the clinic nurse for the chiropractor she worked for. After further conversation, she told me she was neither a RN or LPN. She wasnt even a MA or CNA. Just someone working for a chiropractor taking blood pressures and passing themselves off as a "clinic nurse". Just another example of how everyone is calling themselves a "nurse" without actually being one! Where does it end???

a "friend" looked me up on the BON?????
That chick is weird. Stay away....very far away... Dont give her a reason to be upset with you because you never know what a loose canon like her is capable of but just quietly exit her life all together.

Is it me? Foolish mistakes, don't want the responsibility anymore
Would going back to school help at all? Maybe for respiratory therapy or radiography? Maybe those positions would be more suited to an introvert? I would think they would have less responsibility. Or you could look on craigslist for home health positions. Sometimes those positions are really just looking for someone to watch over a vented patient and are pretty low stress.

career advice needed for a introvert pls
lol np nbs45414. I completely understand and am glad you asked the question. I would also think jobs such as respiratory therapist and radiologic technologist would be jobs that would be good for introverts as well, as they spend a short amount of time with different patients and their interaction with patients is very task oriented. Of course im just guessing...maybe respiratory therapist would not be the greatest afterall as they are traveling all over the hospital interacting with and seeing so many different people?

How would you feel....
At my doctors office, none of the staff (excluding the pa and md) have their credentials on their name badges..just the name. I too think this is on purpose. Everyone looks the same (is in scrubs) and everyone walks around with no identification on their badge other than their name. I think this is a subtle way of training the public to accept that everyone is "the same" and "no need to identify who the nurse is". Years ago, when nurses wore white and looked like a nurse, if was easy for patients to pinpoint exactly who the nurse was and demand to only speak with them.

Who has more autonomy?
In your opinion and based on your own experiences, which profession has the most autonomy: Nursing, Respiratory Therapy or Radiologic Technologist? Thanks in advance.

RT Career?
I am following this thread and wondered if there was any updated news. Is there still talk about deregulating the profession or has that been squashed? Does anyone know of a decent RT forum?

cant decide lpn vs rn
So I was originally going to apply to the RN program but I'm now reconsidering. My goal is to work in home health where I know the norm is to hire both LPN's and RN's. I was visiting our state's (Illinois) employment web site and under the list of "In Demand" occupations is LPN. RN was no where on the list. I thought that really surprising. Then I was looking at the job ads on craigslist and I found that for home health the pay difference between a LPN and RN is only $3. Again, I was surprised. I guess "shocked" would describe what I was feeling more accurately. So here I sit. If my goal is to do home health, is the extra stress and additional year of school really worth it?
