  1. I 'caught' a pt doing something bad with their meds and told on them because it had made them very sick--spiked a temp, lethargic.( pt had been at this hospital for over a year) The next day the MD came in and stopped all the pain meds...and the pt found that I told on them. Pt threatened to kill me, (pt had been in prision for 30 yrs for shooting a security guard), told me they'd have my children raped and murdered among other things. Was very specific about what would happen to me and my family. And pt didn't say this to me, said it to other nurses who told the NM and the NM told them to keep it quiet because she didn't want me to be upset. Thank goodness one of those nurses told me about it! I went to the police and they couldn't do anything about it. Obviously, I was extremely upset about it, I had just gotten off orientation at my first job right out of nursing school. I begged for the pt to be moved to another unit....their response was that I could be moved to another unit. I refused to be moved...I loved the floor and had just gotten through orientation and all. My charge nurse had cops come in and talk to the pt who was still making threats on my life a week later. Didn't help. He made threats to the cops face about me and they couldn't do anything because pt had to be in the hospital. MAnagement still wouldn't do anything. After another week, pt got sick went to the OR and then ICU. Once off the floor, NM told be they would not take pt back which made me really happy, I felt like it was all over. A few days later, they tried to send pt back to us and the charge nurse that day refused. My NM was ticked and said she should have taken them back and took that nurses charge privileges away. Finally, pt went to another facility....but what a nightmare. I no longer work there to say the least.
  2. Well, I recently got "displaced" with my hospital RN position. Our unit and sister unit have had a less than desirable census and are now merging. Based off seniority (not experience) I along with several day and night shift RN's as well as all our LPNs are without a place on the new unit. They say there are enough jobs in the system to absorb us,but it is up to us to apply and interview for the positions. And get this...I've always worked days and now I'll have to go to nights because there are no day shift positions available. So in 2 weeks I will be off the schedule and we just were informed of the changes this week. So that's how I've been effected by the recent economy.
  3. We recently got a page on the beeper from the bed office about a new pt coming to the floor from the ER. It read 'Incarcerated hernia repair'. We got everything ready in the room, anticipating since the hernia was incarcerated, the docs were more than likely taking them to the OR pretty soon. Boy were we wrong... Up comes the pt on the stretcher with transport....and behind them was a police officer. The hernia wasn't incarcerated, the patient was! :chuckle
  4. I worked there straight out of school. I had clinicals there as well as preceptorship. I liked it quite a bit, I was on a med/surg floor and the nurse/pt ratio was ok. I didn't want to make the ride to Charlotte three times or more a week. Of course they've gone through changes to make things better over the last few years. Tenet has had a bad rap, but PMC, I think, is trying to overcome these things. I didn't have any problems growing into a leadership role. They have tons of education and classes. By my second year there I was precepting new employees and students. I was part of the Shared Governance but it was meeting at a turtles pace because the CNO was moving. Unfortunately, we had to move to another area in SC and I must say that the facility where I work now is way behind where PMC is on their JCAHO standards even though the facility is much larger where I am employed now. I did have a pretty good raise in pay when I moved, but PMC's base rate has probably changed by now. Good luck to you! PMC is a great place to work in my opinion. I felt like I belonged and made a real difference to my pts. Hey, you could even have my old job...it's on the jobs listing online!
  5. Well, I didn't think it would be a problem for me but I'll share my situation I found out I was pregnant during the time we were requesting placement for preceptor. I want to be in peds oncology/hem. and picked to go to the outpatient oncology center. Well, I didn't get placed there, they told be it was because I was pregnant. My instructor said she had no evidence that anything would be risky but she had read some things about pregnancy and chemo and she just didn't feel safe having me there. It's really your call so good luck! PS I graduate this year too! Yay us
  6. 150$ is totally overboard IMO! We never spent more than 30$ and we had the instructor for a whole semester. We did a pedicure certificate for one, a nice plant for one. We also usually do a spread for the floor we are one becuase most of those nurses are really great to us and we just want to show them we appreciate it. The card was a good way to go
  7. I'm in an ADN program and challenged the LPN boards in Sept. and passed but now I can't seem to find a job! :uhoh21: I didn't expect this at all. Our local hospital very rarely hires LPN's and they were looking for some for the ED. I interviewed and didn't get it. The LTC facility I worked at as a CNA for two years has NO openings as a LPN. I've applied at other LTC facilities and they are all just hiring 3rd shift which will not work with my family. Anyone else have this problem?
  8. Good Luck! You can do it...
  9. That really sucks...I'm sorry. I went crazy for the 48 hrs so I can't imagine not knowing for maybe four weeks. Hang in there
  10. Good for you!! Congrats!
  11. I know I don't get partial credit, I was just thinking statistically is it better to go with what you absolutely know in those types of questions. I guess I didn't really explain myself well.
  12. When you have a select all that apply question is it better to not pick one of the options than to pick the wrong one? I had some select all that applies for drugs. I had 5 options (I think) and I ruled out two. I knew two of the three left where correct but I was unsure about the other one so I didn't select it. Would it be better for me if I had selected it? Do I even make sense? I don't know a lot about this type of question. Thanks
  13. Ha! Thanks I needed that. I hope no one's trying to reach me on the phone today. I will be on the net! nursedaisy...what are you doing to pass the time?
  14. I felt I did ok yesterday after my NCLEX-PN but today I don't feel good about it. Maybe I put up a front because my husband was with me and I know how much he wants me to do this. I've looked up some questions that I remember and I missed some. Now I'm thinking I was getting lower level questions because I missed some. I feel so sick now...this rollercoaster is crazy. I don't think I'll be able to find out until Monday becuase the quick results say 2 business days. I don't think they'd post them on a Saturday. I keep checking my BON but I think it's too early. Thanks for reading...I'm a mess now. I'll feel really bad if I fail because my Mother and father in law paid for the test. I don't want to have to tell them I failed.
  15. Sorry I didn't see this earlier! It sounds like you did great! Congrats on the job offers and let us know the official! Good luck!
