Skin to skin after delivery
Everything Klone said except I’ve worked at facilities where the vitals are every 30 minutes after the initial set of vitals that has to be taken within 15 minutes of life.

WGU graduate FNP school
From the people that I have talked, finding a reputable school that accepts WGU grads is not the major hurdle. During the interview process for my grad program (at a reputable state school that provides clinical placement) I met a nurse who graduated from WGU; she stated this was not her first time applying and she mentioned WGU and obstacles she faced due to going there. It turns out that the pass/fail format at WGU translates to a 3.0 GPA and she found that her application is not as competitive because she barely meets the GPA requirement to apply to the program. I know for my program, a 3.0 is the minimal GPA required to apply but it states on the website that competitive applicants will have at least a 3.5 GPA. I have heard great things about WGU and even looked into the school myself once upon a time but the grading system is something to think about.

- Recruiters, Is there anyone who has actually been hired after applying on a job board?
I’ve been hired for jobs that I found listed on job boards. But with that said, I still applied on company website; i.e. job is advertised on Glassdoor or Indeed but when I click on the apply button/link, it takes me to the application/job listing on the company’s website and that’s where I submit my application.- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
I’m in the 10am group too! That would be great if you can Skype. I get off of work at 8 that morning so I think I’ll have just enough time to stop home to shower and change ? My husband said he’ll pick me up from work and drive me to the interview so I can nap in the car, lol. I know there is also a 9am interview group too. I read online that they typically get 40-50 CNM/WHNP applications for 12-15 spots. No information on how many they typically interview.- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Cool! What time is your interview? So far I know of two separate interview groups.- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Did you guys get an interview invite?- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Cool! If I were to ever relocate, Oregon is on my short list of potential states!- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Welcome justinelynn! I was definitely a little bummed that it will be at least another month before decisions will be made but glad that we’re not completely in the dark anymore. Abber, I’m also working the night before the interview but am off the night of. That’s going to be tough! Which state will you be coming from?- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Check you email! No official interview invite yet but at least we have an update and timeline.- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Yea, I applied to the Women’s Health Track too. I figure I’ll give them one more day and call if I don’t hear anything tomorrow. Please keep me updated if you hear anything and I’ll let you know if I, or any of my friends who applied, hear back.- C-EFM with no L&D experience
I would start with the Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced fetal Monitoring courses offered by AWHONN before tackling the EFM certification from NCC. I’m currently studying for the exam myself and hear it’s pretty difficult even with L&D experience. The AWHONN courses will give you basic and foundational knowledge of fetal monitoring. As far a studying for the exam, I’m using Mosby’s pocket guide to fetal Monitoring. Also they have practice questions on the NCC website and you can pay for practice exams on https://www.ccprwebsite.org/cp_product.cfm?i=200 Good luck!- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Which MSN program did you apply for? I was just looking on the CSUF website and it looks like the women’s health track is the only one that requires interviews... All tracks are suppose to be notified of admission decisions by the end of March. I’m trying not to panic but I just feel like interview invites would have went out already...- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Nope, nothing! I called on 3/12 and was told that interview invites would be going out that week and early next week. I know a couple of other nurses who applied to the same track as me and they haven’t heard anything either. Im hoping to hear some good news on Monday.- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) MSN Fall 2019
Hi! I applied to one of the CSUF MSN programs for the Fall of 2019. Thank you for starting this thread! I’ve been searching high and low for posts past and present but have found so little.- New grad trying to choose between mother-baby and ICU
That’s a tough choice. My advice would be to ask to shadow on both units and go from there. Good luck and congrats!- Why don't more NPs advocate for better training?
National University alumni here, thanx for the shout out! But just FYI, National University is not a for-profit school. It is actually the 2nd largest private, not for profit University in Southern California.- Survival guide for women of color
Although what you said is not wrong, this IS a WOC problem. Education and social economic status have been included in these studies. An African American mother with an advanced college degree is still more likely to die or her infant die, than a white woman with an 8th grade education. The US has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rate of developed countries and black women and babies are affected more than any other racial group.- Ratios
OMG, your facility sounds like a dream! My facility is pretty much what AZBlueBell described. I've even been pulled out of my recovery before because a nurse who was watching my other pt kept having questions. It's definitely not safe and as a result we have a pretty high turnover rate and actually hire 2 new grad groups each year.- Torn between jobs
To me it's a no brainer, take the urgent care job! No way in hell I would put up with all the BS of acute care without benefits and competitive pay and still be expected to work full time hours. Congratulations on the job offers and good luck!- hopeful future nurse, advice needed!
It depends on how accelerated your program is... My "accelerated" BSN program was 21 months and I was able to work 2-3 12 hour shifts a week just fine. But some accelerated programs are only 12 months long and I imagine it would be very difficult to work during a program that intense. Only you know what you can handle. Some hospitals have CNA type positions available to nursing students after the complete Fundamentals, and usually by that time you've developed a study routine and know what you can handle. Good luck.- Foley placement
I don't do foleys on males (I work in L&D) but from what I remember in school, you advance all the way for males because their urethra is so long. As for females, you are suppose to advance another inch or so after seeing urine return. I personally just advance it all the way, inflate the balloon and the '"excess" just slides out anyway. It's an outdated practice to pull or tug on the catheter. The only time I've had a foley I was numb and didn't feel a thing but I have had pts who say it is uncomfortable even when properly placed. But it should not be painful. - Recruiters, Is there anyone who has actually been hired after applying on a job board?
