  1. I can’t speak for the OR specifically but I recently started as a travel nurse in the Bay Area and have worked with a lot of nurses who could not get a job as a new grad here. They had to go to either SoCal or out of state to find work as a new grad and then move back once they had experience. From what I’ve heard, there are so many experienced nurses looking for jobs here that they have no reason to hire and train new grads.
  2. I was working in NYC, but recently moved. I tried to message you privately but it didn't quite work. If you'd like, message me privately and I can tell you what I know!
  3. I would wait. If you pay and it turns out you passed Pearson won't give you your money back.
  4. I took the NCLEX 3/24. I tried the PVT a few hours after I took the exam and yesterday and got the good popup. I paid for the quick results today and it said I passed. Make sure you put in your credit card information (i changed the expiration date and the cvc) and click submit.
  5. i did mostly kaplan qbank questions for about a month and a half (20-50 questions a day) and i didn't really start doing content review until about 6 days before the nclex. i did the hurst online review 6 days before the nclex and it helped clarify some things better for me but it doesn't cover enough if you're weak in content. i used the internet and saunders for reference if i needed to look something up. i also did about 6 chapters in the lacharity book but i ran out of time because i started the lacharity book after the hurst review. if you're studying for 8-10 hours and not retaining information then you're probably overloading your brain and not really benefitting from all those hours you're putting in. my suggestion is for you to switch gears and do some questions. get used to applying the content you've been studying. start off with 20 questions a day and build up if you have to. i personally could not sit still when i had to the kaplan question trainers. a lot of times my mind would wander and i'd get up to do something and completely forget that i had a test going. honestly, the longest i ever "studied" was when i did the hurst review. i spent about 5-6 hours on the video followed by 50 qbank questions and then i'd call it a day and relax. good luck!
  6. thank you! i would say my pharmacolgy was more on the weak side. i didn't study much pharmacology but made sure to know the ones i thought were important like beta blockers, digoxin, and diuretics. even with those i just knew when to use them and nursing care regarding their use. i was hoping i wouldn't get a lot of pharm questions but i did get a handful of them. i think it took me about a month and a half to do all the kaplan qbank questions. i started studying in january but took february off and then started doing them again this month. but i also only did about 20-50 questions a day. i personally hated the kaplan decision tree and every time i tried to use it i would change my (correct) answer to the wrong answer so i gave up on it. it didn't work for me but if it works for you then by all means use it. i did see that 35 page review. i went over it and typed it over again because the format of it was driving me crazy but i didn't really use it. rather than trying to memorize a ton of information i did questions so i could practice my "critical thinking" skills.
  7. my school enrolled us in kaplan so i had no choice. i figured if they're making me pay for it i might as well as make use of it and i'm really glad i did. the saunder's book is good for content but the questions are way too easy. i did the hurst online review about 6 days before the nclex and it helped me understand some things better but it definitely does not cover enough if you're weak in content. i thought the lacharity book was good for the SATA and placing answers in order but other than that the questions were still not on par with the difficulty level of the nclex. i think kaplan is definitely the most challenging (not sure about evolve passpoint) and i thought the nclex was more difficult than kaplan. i didn't do much content review since i graduated fairly recently and everything is still pretty fresh in my mind but i did do all the kaplan questions in the question bank and question trainer.
  8. airborne - need respiratory protection, hence the N95 respirator; the particles are small and therefore need a respirator think of the disseminated herpes zoster example as airborne and contact so you need gloves, gown, and N95 droplet - need to protect the nasal mucosa, conjunctiva, and mouth; the particles are large enough to not require a respirator and therefore just a surgical mask is suffice why do you need shoe covers? i think shoe covers are used to protect sterile environments such as the OR so that you don't bring microorganisms in.
  9. i just took the nclex and the test shut off at 75 questions. according to PVT i passed. i did all the kaplan qbank questions and question trainers and also took the hurst online review about 6 days before i took the nclex. the hurst online review was pretty much the only content review i did and it helped clarify some of the content i was having trouble with but definitely doesn't cover enough in my opinion if you're weak on content. the reason i didn't do much content review was that i graduated in january and felt that most of the info was still somewhat fresh in my mind. i used the saunder's book for reference when i wasn't sure about something. i also did some questions (about 6 chapters) from lacharity's prioritization, delegation and assignment book after i finished hurst review, which i thought was helpful but definitely nowhere near the level of difficulty of the nclex. in the end, i didn't have enough time to answer more questions from lacharity which is why i only managed to get through only 6 chapters. from what i've heard, kaplan's questions are on par with the questions on the nclex. but after taking the nclex, i found the nclex questions to be much harder than the kaplan questions. if i were you, i would try to answer as many questions as possible, especially "application" and "analysis" questions.
  10. If you can avoid attending this school I would avoid it. Some of the professors are great and others are not so great but that's with every school. The problem is the accelerated program, in both Manhattan and Riverdale, have set schedules with set professors so you don't have a choice as to which professor you have for a class and you can't tailor your schedule to your needs/wants. The "campus" in Manhattan has a site director whose hours are sort of irregular. Once the site director leaves, she locks up the computer room and the lounge leaving us with no access to a printer, water, or a lounge. The Manhattan location has one computer room but the computers are extremely. If there's a class going on in the lab, then the lab is closed. We definitely get shafted in this aspect because the Riverdale campus has a lot more computer labs with better computers and printers. The Manhattan location also has no library, gym, dining facility, etc. Also, what they don't tell you until orientation is that you're required to take at least one class in Riverdale so don't be surprised if you have to make the trek up to the Bronx. Also, our clinical rotations so far have been in the Bronx and Yonkers. From what I know, there are no scholarships for this program so you would have to use loans, grants, etc. The dean informed us during orientation that the accelerated program as well as the traditional program is accredited. Because the accelerated program follows the same curriculum as the traditional program but at a faster pace, there is no need for separate accreditation. Hope this helps.
  11. Do yourself a favor and do not even bother applying to this school. The professors (some, not all), as well as the director of the nursing department are unprofessional. They like to retaliate even if the concerns/complaints we have are legitimate.
